It looks like the hotel stuck a few tables in a lobby and called it a restaurant. The bar was very slow, food was ok, but pricey. Overall, probably won’t return due to not wanting to wait, nor sit in a lobby of a hotel to eat

One entree of 5 came out first, the next 4 entrees came out 30 minutes later. We were cancelling the order just as they brought out. Wasn’t a great first experience but will try again bc of location.

Service was slow and waitress didn’t check on our meals when delivered. Also brought wrong order of cocktails to the table. Food was below par and too expensive for what we got.

Unfortunately Board & Barrel is mediocre at best in my opinion. The food is not special by any means, and definitely isn’t a good deal for the price. I ordered the grouper po boy and my wife ordered a chicken sandwich meal. We also ordered the crab dip for an appetizer. The crab dip was the saddest I’ve ever had, it’s obviously some prepackaged frozen stuff they heat up. It tasted like melted cheese that may or may not have had a crab wafted in its direction, and for $13 I expected a little more. The po boy had zero flavor, my wife’s chicken sandwich had some kind of nasty ranch concoction on it and we both agreed we’ve had better onion rings at Burger King. She scraped off the weird ranchy sauce and ate just the chicken which had been pounded so thin that after you scraped off the breading/sauce it was a sad patty. We also sat outside to hopefully enjoy the view of the river... but unbeknownst to us their outdoor seating is a prime cut through from the hotel to the river walk so the entire time people were walking up on us and around our table either entering or leaving the hotel! The service was good, no complaints there. For the location and price it’s not worth it and we’ll never come back. Both our combos were around 13-15 dollars. Honestly a fast food combo at any of them is a better deal and I think tastes better. Be forewarned, waste of time and money with frustration either dealing with people constantly walking up on you from the hotel, or I guess you could take their indoor seating which is practically sitting in the hotel lobby. 👎👎👎

This was our second time at Board and Barrel while staying at the Ballast Hotel (old Hilton Riverside). We returned because of our excellent experience the first time. The food was very good. I had the Po Boy Grouper sandwich (a second time). The sandwich was very big and tasty both times. I would order it again. I understand it was a special, so not on the regular menu. It should be added. My wife had the turkey sandwich (with some fancy name) and loved it. It also was more than she could eat. We would go back after the parking in the area is improved (bad due to major construction in the area). For sure if you're staying at the Ballast, you don't need to go off site for a meal.

Located inside hotel. Hostess wasn’t aware of Open Table reservation (wasn’t using system) She was very polite but seemed to be a random hotel clerk that was just stuck on that station. Server was very polite but was alone for the entire restaurant as well as serving drinks on the patio. To say she spent the evening in the weeds is an understatement. The decor was clean and fit the theme of the restaurant. I get what the chef is attempting with the menu but the dishes and combinations seem to be piece mill from noteworthy nearby chefs menus. Overall I’d say the portions are a bit large on the small plates. The overall feel of the food is a bit clunky, perhaps this is just from a young chef and the refinement will come with time. We all thought the restaurant has potential but needs to be managed and staffed as if it is NOW not bare bones and hope that business comes. Although the server was super nice it’s doubtful we’ll return due to the overall disjointed feel of the evening.

Don't advertise lump crab cake on menu and then deliver shards of crab meat drenched in mayo and sitting on bed of liquid. Not my style. It was more like crab dip. Heirloom tomato salad had more croutons than tomatoes. Entrees were OK but I wish I had known that my scallops would be resting on a bed of cauliflower rice.

Met some friends for drinks and dinner to celebrate a birthday. First time here. Ambiance was nice, though started to become a little loud as the evening progressed. Sandwiches were very good, prices fair, server was awkward but still attentive and did a great job. We’ll be back again sometime.

My experience was less than the best. My friends and I chose this spot for my bachelorette dinner and had a reservation. While the location, and atmosphere was nice. We had to wait over 1.5 hours before being served our food, and 10-15 minutes for a drink refill. While the food and drinks were good, the customer service was very under par and I wouldnt go back for that reason. The restaurant was not packed, so there shouldn’t have been a reason for such a delay in quality service. I left disappointed overall.
