BOA Steakhouse - Sunset Ratings and Reviews
Service was very bad. The food and drinks were late. Our out of town business guest’s food was not served until 15 minutes after the other meals were already served. The rest of the meals went cold waiting on her entree. The steaks were not cooked as ordered. Waiter was frazzled and unorganized.
Definitely not worth the money spent. We spent over $1000 and left apologizing to our out of town business guests.
During this visit to Boa nothing seemed to go right for us.
There were 4of us; 3 of us ordered the bone-in ribeye. The steaks were overcooked, the baked potato was super dry, the smashed broccoli was cold in temperature. And the waiter charged us for the incorrect drink; a$20 mistake in his favor.
The only good thing we had was the Mac and cheese.
This is all unfortunate since we consider this Boa to be the best steakhouse in LA. Until this day, we've had good experiences here.
I made the mistake of going here thinking the popularity was based on the food and found out it is not. I have been to many steakhouses, coast to coast, and all of them were better than BOA. Even thought the dining room was basically empty at 7pm on thursday, we were seated in a very small "alcove" at the front of the restaurant. All of the tables were full and the area was very crowded. We ordered an appetizer that was supposed to be prepared table side but was actually prepared on a cart well away from our table because of how crowded the small area was. Our waiter covered all four tables in the area and was over worked. There was a table of 8 that took so long to order our food was delivered but I didn't get a second drink until my food was mostly gone. The steaks are offered with several rubs and sauces. I made the mistake of thinking a 21 day dry aged prime steak would have it's own flavor, wrong again. It was as tasteless as could be. It didn't even have any "grill flavor" The truffle mashed potatoes were very good. The sweet potato fries were good. I was unimpressed with the enforcement of the dress code. Maybe logo t-shirts, sweat pants and ball caps, and bringing your dog "not a service animal, a lap dog" to dinner qualifies as "business" dress in LA but not in my book. I would have had no problem with the $500.00 dollar tab for 3 people if the food was that kind of quality, but it was not. I expect to pay this kind of money for quality and have done so may times. Combined with the overly casual atmosphere and the dog allowed in the dining room I wish I had spent my money elsewhere.
Great food in a buzzy restaurant with service that exceeds your expectations. Really!
The manager came over to say hi,
my wife asks if the bar really does have the best cocktails in town,
his response - of course - what do you like to drink?
Gin or Tequila she replied
2 minutes later, he delivers a drink she loves
she asks for something different when the waiter comes by 20 minutes later
a few minutes later, he delivers a drink she hates
the manager apologizes and brings her another, on the house, she loves this one
You don't mind the cost when you get such engaged service. Did I say the food was great!
Completely unimpressed with any of the food options. Had to send my steak back- it was cooked medium but the outside was charred and tasted like gasoline - second time
It was slightly better but still only ate the inside of the steak as the outside was charred. Unimpressed with the appetizers-
Jay is phenomenal! His service was upper echelon. His recommendations were spot on and the food quality couldn’t have been better. His assistant Luis was also extremely attentive and as a team they provided an exquisite fine dining experience. Lance the wine director was excellent as well and very generous with his suggestions. My Aunt was celebrating her birthday and her first dining experience at BOA was all around 5 stars!
We always enjoy BOA, however, may not be the restaurant of choice for a Holiday. We were seated at 8:00 PM for a 7:00 PM reservation Christmas Eve., albeit the server could not have been more wonderful, food still took a very long time and it was not up to the normal high standards one usually receives at BOA. Again, we have never before been disappointed here (except for another Christmas Eve 2 years ago), but this was our 2nd, at last try, at enjoying a Holiday meal at BOA. For the price one does not expect the food to be lower quality and the time so off, even if a Holiday.
Christmas Eve was busy but not up to normal standards especially for the value.
Got seated 20 minutes after reservation. One hour after seating still were waiting for main course. Sides came out long after main course and were warm not hot.
Felt like not enough wait staff. Waiter was running around like crazy.
Came for Christmas Eve & it felt as special at the holiday. The staff was so friendly & seemed genuinely happy to be working that night. Had a true family feel. Food was spot on as usual, especially the Caesar salad, the best in town. What a lovely dinner!! Thank you to all that worked that evening. You all made it a very special Christmas Eve!
we ordered a Caesar salad to share....way too garlicky...I would not order it again. Then we had a sea bass, delicious, mc and cheese, french fries, creamed spinach and mashed potatoes with a steak. The mashed potatoes were too thick, too heavy for our taste, and the piece of meat, though good, was not worth $54.00. The dessert was perfect for my son's Birthday celebration.
Overall, I would go back, but be more choosy...
We celebrated a birthday at BOA; 1st time dining there it was amazing! The waiter was attentive and the manager checked on service as well. The Filet Minon was like “Butter “ :) Last the comp Birthday desert came complete with sparklers! Thank you BOA we will return.
Excellent food however, an embarrassing issue over food service left a bitter taste. We placed our food order prior to an adjacent table. Their food arrived and was served first and was exactly as per our order. We suspected it was actually our food and mentioned this subtlety to a staff member who completely dismissed the possibility and embarrassed us. Our fellow diners started eating but mentioned to the server that it wasn’t what they ordered.
When I made the booking I mentioned this was a special occasion. A significant birthday in fact. However their was no acknowledgement of this on the night.
Overall the food was excellent but the whole experience left a bitter taste. When you pay top dollar you expect exemplary service and to be treated courteously. Unfortunately neither of these were afforded to us.
Hailing from Chicago, I try every chance I get to stop by BOA on Sunset for a great meal. This time it was our yearly brother's trip. With a lawyer, doctor and engineer all present, the optics were available to detect any issues---None arose!!! This place is fantastic, I mean off the charts, I mean what a great time. The vibe is there and the staff is excellent. If you are lucky enough to get MATT as your server, you will be set! The Cajun Steak is one of my favorite, but it was actually surpassed by the beef short ribs this time. Absolutely fantastic. This is about as trendy as LA gets and we all left stuffed having barely finished our meals. We are huge fans. Thank you BOA.
After arriving on time for our reservation, we waited at the bar for over an hour and a half (while MANY other tables were sat) before someone approached us to go to our table. I walked up to the host stand once and the main host didn’t even look up for almost a minute, and once she did she simply said, “we’re still waiting on table.” Didn’t ask another question. Once we finally sat our service was fine, but not worthy of a restaurant like Boa claims itself to be. We ordered the table side Caesar, but it was not made tableside. Couldn’t figure that one out because every other one that we saw was. No manager came to check on us through the meal. Even after waiting over an hour and a half for our food we still waited over an hour for our food. And the place wasn’t even that busy! I have literally NEVER left a review like this before, but after having worked in a five-star restaurant for three years I know that this was an absolutely terrible dining experience. Steak came out cold, asparagus was ok, salad ok, truffle fries ok. For an over $200 meal you just expect way more. Next time we’ll go to Craig’s or Mastro’s!
We sat for at least 15+ minutes before we were even served water. Steaks came out cold. Sent my bone-in Filet back for a new one; 2nd one came back luke-warm and blood red inside (supposed to be medium). Not sure what the attraction is for this place - as all three meals (including sides) were very mediocre.
This place was awesome to my party of 8. My reservation got mixed up by me and Stacy sprang right into action!! She was a delight and accommodated us and boy are we thrilled. Sensational experience and the food was awesome, especially the seabass. Highly recommend this place for any occasion for adults!! Thank you so much BOA .
