BOA Steakhouse - Sunset Ratings and Reviews
I ordered a skirt steak and my wife got a salad. It took 1 hour for the food to come out, when I asked the waiter what’s going all he could say is sorry we are very “slammed “. Then when our food finally came out my food was cold so I sent it back thinking they would make me a new one. After about 20 min they brought back the same food saying we took the meal off your bill because all we could do is reheat. I ordered my steak medium it came out well done. It definitely ruined our night as my wife had to wait a while for my food to come back and when it did I was very unsatisfied.
Anniversary- Taylor our server was by far one of the best servers I have had. He truly made the evening special and he didn’t rush us or make us feel like just a table. He made us feel like we were the only table in there and gave very detailed attention to us. He made my 1st time to BOA the best and will come back to sit in his section again.
We have been going to BOA since its opening and have always had a great experience, even with the extreme crowds on Friday and Saturday nights. This past Saturday night was the first time we had a less than satisfactory experience. We booked online at OpenTable 2 weeks prior for a 7:45 pm rez, a party of 4 and as we have always done, requested a booth on the back patio. We arrived at 7:45 pm, but weren't seated until 8:35 pm, and to add insult to injury we were put in a booth next to the outside door, which we have had issues with in the past given patrons go out there to smoke cigarettes and weed, and then we get the joy of inhaling all of that each time the door is opened. This time, there was the added smell of butane (or some other chemical) from somewhere, which no one could locate. On top of the long wait for a table, our food didn't come out until 9:30 pm. Needless to say, we ate in haste and bolted given we were so frustrated. Also, they have changed the menu a bit - the steaks are still greats, but the Mac and Cheese is not as cheesy (possibly healthier and more bland), and the Smashed Broccoli tastes as bland as hospital food - no one at our table touched it. After complaining about our experience to our waiter, the manager stopped by and was very apologetic, and they even went as far as removing some items from our bill, which was a very nice gesture. We will come back to BOA again, and only hope this experience does not become the new norm as we have seen this cycle play-out at many upscale restaurants in LA, which many times leads to eventual closure.
I was visiting a friend who highly recommended Boa. We arrived and the ambiance was awesome at the outside dining area. Their wedge salad isn’t the way I like it so they easily adapted to my request. The drinks were poured well. I ordered the center cut filet, my friend the bone-in. We shared a baked potato. Well, that’s where things went south. The meat, while done perfectly, was dry and flavorless. No glistening juice when cut into. I thought that maybe my friend’s idea of a good steak was a tasteless dry filet, so I didn’t want to say anything to offend. I made my way through each dry bite of the steak when I realized he hadn’t touched his. We I asked him about it, he said it was also flavorless and dry and unlike what he’d come to expect here. He even said that he noticed as I cut my steak that nothing seeped out of it. The waiter (who hadn’t come to check how our meal had turned out) noticed that the steak was untouched and, when told the situation, sent a manager over. He apologized and took off the charge for my friend’s steak.. I’d already pretty much finished mine so of course I was charged which is understandable. I think we just hit a nite where the meat was subpar. We wondered why the chef hadn’t noticed while cooking that the meat was inferior. Maybe I’ll give this place a Wat2nd try but not anytime soon.
This was the first time we visited Boa and were very impressed. It was my son's birthday and he wanted a nice steak house. We have eaten at Mastro's, Cut, Ruth Chris, and Flemings and BOA definitely is way better. We ordered the table side Caesar salad and the waiter was very skilled and informative and the salad was delicious. We ordered organic petite fillet and bone rib-eye. Both were cooked perfectly and the meat is so tender they melt in your mouth. Our waiter was outstanding. He explained the menu and brought different wines for us to taste. We will definitely be back again.
Service was very bad. The food and drinks were late. Our out of town business guest’s food was not served until 15 minutes after the other meals were already served. The rest of the meals went cold waiting on her entree. The steaks were not cooked as ordered. Waiter was frazzled and unorganized.
Definitely not worth the money spent. We spent over $1000 and left apologizing to our out of town business guests.
During this visit to Boa nothing seemed to go right for us.
There were 4of us; 3 of us ordered the bone-in ribeye. The steaks were overcooked, the baked potato was super dry, the smashed broccoli was cold in temperature. And the waiter charged us for the incorrect drink; a$20 mistake in his favor.
The only good thing we had was the Mac and cheese.
This is all unfortunate since we consider this Boa to be the best steakhouse in LA. Until this day, we've had good experiences here.
I made the mistake of going here thinking the popularity was based on the food and found out it is not. I have been to many steakhouses, coast to coast, and all of them were better than BOA. Even thought the dining room was basically empty at 7pm on thursday, we were seated in a very small "alcove" at the front of the restaurant. All of the tables were full and the area was very crowded. We ordered an appetizer that was supposed to be prepared table side but was actually prepared on a cart well away from our table because of how crowded the small area was. Our waiter covered all four tables in the area and was over worked. There was a table of 8 that took so long to order our food was delivered but I didn't get a second drink until my food was mostly gone. The steaks are offered with several rubs and sauces. I made the mistake of thinking a 21 day dry aged prime steak would have it's own flavor, wrong again. It was as tasteless as could be. It didn't even have any "grill flavor" The truffle mashed potatoes were very good. The sweet potato fries were good. I was unimpressed with the enforcement of the dress code. Maybe logo t-shirts, sweat pants and ball caps, and bringing your dog "not a service animal, a lap dog" to dinner qualifies as "business" dress in LA but not in my book. I would have had no problem with the $500.00 dollar tab for 3 people if the food was that kind of quality, but it was not. I expect to pay this kind of money for quality and have done so may times. Combined with the overly casual atmosphere and the dog allowed in the dining room I wish I had spent my money elsewhere.
Great food in a buzzy restaurant with service that exceeds your expectations. Really!
The manager came over to say hi,
my wife asks if the bar really does have the best cocktails in town,
his response - of course - what do you like to drink?
Gin or Tequila she replied
2 minutes later, he delivers a drink she loves
she asks for something different when the waiter comes by 20 minutes later
a few minutes later, he delivers a drink she hates
the manager apologizes and brings her another, on the house, she loves this one
You don't mind the cost when you get such engaged service. Did I say the food was great!
Completely unimpressed with any of the food options. Had to send my steak back- it was cooked medium but the outside was charred and tasted like gasoline - second time
It was slightly better but still only ate the inside of the steak as the outside was charred. Unimpressed with the appetizers-
