Heirloom Tomato Salad
Cucumber, dill vinaigrette, fresh herbs, pickled shallot
The place is hard to find but has an amazing entrance. The decor is amazing but the food is not worth it. We got the lobster roll and it had no taste..oysters were good and cheese plate was regular.
The restaurant feels like a well kept secret. Almost like a speakeasy. Down a steep flight of steps with an almost Caribbean feeling despite its German roots.
I had one of the best lobster rolls ever accompanied crisp and so delicious potatoes. The Schnitzel was excellent as were all the appetizers.
Wish there was coffee or cappuccino to go with desserts-just had espresso.
Attentive servers and a young vibe, I would highly recommend it with the caveat that this isn’t fussy beautifully plated food. So wear your jeans and dig in!
Too dark, too noisy. I loved last summer, felt crammed in winter, and am not enthusiastic now. There are better choices around.
Food was great! We would definitely recommend this little gem to others.
Fresh and delicious food — generous servings and beautifully prepared. This restaurant is special, and the entrance is nearly hidden, so it’s like a secret little gem!
We enjoyed the summer iteration of this restaurant. The food and especially the wine options were wonderful, and the atmosphere was comfortable and uncrowded on a weeknight, made even more cozy by a thunderstorm. One of the servers wore a mask under his chin the entire night, which is totally pointless, but I digress.
Great food and fun ambiance
Here’s the thing.. We loved the speak easy entrance.. and that it’s a very intimate setting yet rustic fun.. but you’ve got to expand your menu.. if you are a fan of Shaller& Weber.. it’s about the food.. not pasta
The schnitzel was very tasty.. but you need pork chops, sausage maybe even your tasty fried chicken.. on the menu!! Not sure why you don’t as it’s all upstairs ???
Please expand the food.. keep the restaurant size.. makes it fun and a little mysterious.. all well needed on the UES!!
Delicious food and super friendly staff!
I SO wanted to love this place having learned about it shopping above at my butcher. They've made the space very cute and rustic and it's always nicer to be outside but away from the busy streets. Unfortunately, there's no service to speak of. The two people running the room don't seem to know much about food or the wine list that is one of the big draws. And they spent most of their time talking to each other. I expected more from a spot that charges about $30 per (required) entree.
I ordered the Schnitzel because the quality of the veal in the store is so high, but it needed lemon juice to cut the grease. The slice on the plate was from the end and was more decorative than functional. I would have asked for an additional slice, but no one ever came to the table to see how we were doing even though I'd indicated that I wanted to try a second wine. The cucumber salad was delicious, but there were only about two tablespoons worth. Ditto with the lingonberries. What a disappointment.
Absolutely delicious food will come back
Food, ambience, service, and music soundtrack were all wonderful. Will definitely make another trip there.
Down a dingy staircase....waiters longing on a bench.....long wait for lukewarm food that was supposed to be hot..i.e.Viener Schnitzel.... spaetzel that was like Mac and cheese...carelesss.service..overpriced.. a big disappointment as I live nearby
For an 'outdoor' space it was cramped and felt closed in. Food quality variable. Burrata appetizer had a interesting pistachio dressing but the burrata itself was only okay. Pretty good weiner schnitzel but the potato salad and cucumber salad sides were supermarket level. Beer was barely cool and waiter just said that the refrigerator was not doing great.
First visit for us. Really warm and charming. Great service and excellent food
Delightful experience and great fun,
Beautiful hidden outdoor space, below the building, with "speakeasy " entrance. The dinning room is covered and very well ventilated (we had a dinner there at 90 degrees weather and we were very comfortable.) The food is Austrian inspired, and being originally from that part of the world, I can attest, it is well done and remarkably tasty. We had a great experience!
Eh, neat idea, nothing special.
What a wonderful experience! It was a quiet night since we went to dinner early, had the most attentive crew! Thank you for a wonderful evening!
Have been to both Blume/Hutte numerous times now. I always have a lovely and unique experience.
Great atmosphere, excellent wine list, food was mediocre and service could have been more attentive. Glad I checked it out but won’t be on repeat.
Really cute place. Perfect for a date night or a fun night out for 4-5 friends. Food had a fresh modern take on heavy German fare which was nice.
Saw them set up a table for 6 next to us as we were finishing up and I thought it looked a little cramped. But the original set up of all the tables being 4, 3, & 2 person seating looked roomy. Definitely not the kind of place I would go with kids.
Must good spot. They kill it
Such a cute place!. Small menu but sufficient variety. Everything was excellent and portions were ample.
Christopher, the chef, was very generous in helping a senior citizen get into the challenging space. The seasonal menu was delicious. Wait staff helpful.
We had a lovely dinner
Loving the new Blume menu. Definite upgrade from last year. The heirloom tomato salad and beef tartar were perfect. I can’t wait to come back and get the schnitzel!
Quaint setting in small but cozy backyard, down a steep flight of stairs. Menu is limited but particular to German/Austrian influences, such as schnitzel, rosti potatoes, bratwurst. For lunch & afternoon snack, it's best to stick with the house favorites of cheese and charcuterie boards, showcasing a broad selection of cured meats and a wide range of cheeses that come with baguette toasts and accompanied by delicious assortments of fruit jellies, chutneys & honey.
The food was very good but the website shows what looks to be an open space when it is actually tented and a bit claustrophobic. Also the music was blaring and seemed to have nothing to do with anything - Billy Joel??
Recorded music was deafening. Couldn'
t hear waitress describe dishes. Had pasta and clams which was not remarkable.Good beer.
Meh. Food is mediocre. Staircase down is vertigo inducing. Sticking with Kate Katje from here on out for German- Austrian.
We had the most wonderful experience here. The servers and host were so friendly and attentive, even though they were very busy. Can’t wait to go here again. Felt very safe.
Mother’s Day lunch. Lovely setting and delicious food.
On Mother’s Day brunch they didn’t have the frozen drinks machine turned on. But the food is great, the ambiance is spectacular and the servers are polite and responsive. Just get those drinks flowing!
Excellent food, decent service, nice space. Music was too loud for talking and the choice of it totally incongrous with the setting. Some hard rock or equally annoying. The clientele was far from college age probably more skewed to middle age.
One thing that is not mentioned but should, is that there are steep narrow stairs leading down from the street level--not easy for anyone who has trouble walking esp the elderly with canes, walkers, bad knees, etc, like our dinner companion.
Also there are no paper menus which is fine for anyone with a smart phone. Our 89 yr old friend didn't have one and we had to read the menu out loud.
Stopped by after museum visit and enjoyed just above every app on the menu, plus a Wiener schnitzel. Enjoyed the wine selection and a kolsch. If you like this style of food, a great find at a reasonable price, and you can shop for groceries after at the Schaller and Webber upstairs.
Great food & we love the tented outdoor space! The music can be a bit loud.
What an enchanting place to spend some time dinning out. The Decor is gorgeous and service was impeccable! Lovely place, lovely staff, simply a wonderful time. Thank you all 🙏🏼😊
It was our first time dining at this Schaller and Weber affiliated restaurant. Everything was delicious and we look forward to going back.
The ambiance was a problem. The restaurant is in the basement and there are steep steps down to it. My husband uses a walker and we were taken down in a tiny elevator obviously used only for deliveries and such. Then we walked through a maze of boxes and garbage bags etc. to the "Charming Garden" which turned out to be a small covered patio type covered with an umbrella and fake flowers. The tables and chairs were an assortment of worn out only partially painted tables, bridge chairs etc. In spite of this the staff was unfailingly warm and exceedingly courteous and helpful. The food varied from absolutely delicious to good.
Perhaps this is only a place for able bodied young people!
