Both my wife and I suffered pretty bad stomach problems after dinner, and couldn't continue with our plans for the evening. I overheard another guest complain that his plate was basically raw (some type of meat, perhaps lamb -- I didn't ask him). I wonder, seriously, if there are some food handling issues in the kitchen. I likely will not be back (not any time soon, anyway).
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at Bluestem over the weekend. We’ve always wanted to try a progressive dinner and I’ve heard nothing but good things about Bluestem. The service is a team service so it was nice being checked on frequently by multiple team members. The only thing that was a bit of a turn off was their pricing had changed, so when the bill came we asked our waitress about it who responded with, “yes, that’s our new pricing.” She did offer to speak with the chef about it who then gave us the price that was listed on the first menu we saw. However, I do believe their prices on their wine list and gin list were increased during their price change and we were charged more than what was on the menu. Would I go back? Absolutely!
Waited 35 min for reservation-was really noisy-pasta was over cooked -salmon bland-dessert not exciting
We enjoy this for special occasions and romantic experience.
We did the 5-course menu option and really enjoyed ourselves! I was wowed by the food from the first 3 courses, and did admittedly find the 4th course dishes leaving something to be desired (wish they had chicken!) Would highly recommend for a special occasion or fancy date night :)
Food was outstanding, as was the service.
Two of us shared two delicious 5-course meals with a common summery, herby and light theme throughout. I enjoyed foods and flavors I normally wouldn’t eat, and the portions were plenty to be able to taste multiple dishes. It was perfect for a romantic birthday dinner - our first night out since our baby was born.
Our dinner was wonderful. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The wine pairings complemented the food very well. We will go back next time we are in Kansas City!
I cannot say more than I have said in prior reviews. This is our "go to"for our anniversary every year. Every year we leave 100% satisfied!!
Good food and good service.
As always. great food, great service, great wine. I would recommend you do the wine pairings. Great way to learn about different wines and the way it changes with food.one of our favorite places to dine.
We had dinner celebrating a special birthday and Bluestem did not disappoint! The staff went out of their way to make the evening special, even printing a special birthday menu for us. The food was exceptional. The dishes were all fantastic, one of us was vegetarian and they simply accommodated without missing a beat. One course was a pasta dish, and it was the best pasta I have eaten anywhere in the world. All of the courses were exceptional—and there was something there for all kinds of tastes. Bluestem is a bit expensive, but you can tell when eating the food that the labor it takes to prepare the dishes is extensive, and it was certainly worth it. It was a memorable, wonderful meal in a great atmosphere. I’ll choose this place again, and can easily understand the awards and rave reviews.
A dining experience you are sure to remember. Every course was delicious in its own right. My husband and I did the 5 course menu and don't regret the decision. Each course has two options, except for the final fifth course that has four-five options so my husband and I got one of each in the first 4 courses and the two that sounded the most delicious to us for dessert. In addition to our meal we received a starter and additional mini desserts (cookie, raspberry gummy, truffle and caramel). The cocktails were good, but I didn't feel they went with the meals and atmosphere. If I were to return I would definitely do the wine pairing. Service was exceptional. The view isn't ideal if you're facing the open window, but the ambiance inside is nice and fitting of the restaurant.
I was disappointed seeing the waitress in T-shirts and not professional clothing. They were playing odd loud music—like afternoon delight. The food was good but not $250 good for two people. If the staff dressed professional and they played appropriate music this would have been a high class experience. So for that reason it was not worth the money and no need to return for the price I paid and the experience I had.
We arrived early ahead of our reservation for a birthday dinner, and were seated right away. The staff was welcoming and responsive to keeping our water glasses filled and the table cleared as we worked our way through the courses. We really loved the pacing of the courses (we selected five course option- plus we received bread and another three samples of goodies) and found it to be really filling by the time dessert arrived. We aren't wine drinkers but the craft cocktails were delicious! Would definitely recommend for a unique experience and fun memory.
It was worth every penny. We sat at table 20 next to expo. It was so much fun to watch the kitchen. The service was excellent, as was every dish.
This was a return trip for both of us, and this time we came in for a birthday. The menus were personalized with a birthday greeting, and each staff member we interacted with was warm and helpful. The food was beautifully prepared- each course presented with obvious care. We each ordered the five course tasting menu- and shared everything! (This is definitely the way to do it, folks!) the standouts were foie gras tart and carbonara pasta for the second course. My boyfriend was obsessed with the lemon tart dessert, specifically the earl grey ice cream.
Overall, would recommend, would go again, and can’t stop thinking about it.
I have to admit...it has been a couple of years since we've dined at bluestem. And as usual, the restaurant did not disappoint. We brought in guests from all over the US to join us for this evening. Everyone of our guests (ranging from NY to LA) were pleasantly blown away. I don't think that they were expecting this level of dining in Kansas City. Bluestem is truly a local Kansas City gem.
I may have used the word “orgasmic“ when describing food in the past, but I never truly meant it. This. Is. The best.
Food was perfection, beautiful plating & sweet, nice added touches
Amazing dinner and cocktails. Ambiance is lacking and we had a couple stumbles with our service. That being said, still a wonderful evening!
Great tasting and wine pairing. Service was excellent.
We had a wonderful experience from food to service. The only reason we gave 3 stars for ambience was because it was an uncharacteristically warm environment.
Bluestem has been our list to try for YEARS! We've done a lot of the chef inspired restaurants in KC over the years, so we were really looking forward to this. The food was very good and well presented. My favorite part of it all was getting well thought out and unique wine pairings with each course (5 total). A complaint we would have is that we actually felt a little rushed course to course as we were trying to not only savor each dish, but take in the wine it was paired with as well. Another example of feeling a little rushed is that our server brought the check before I had a bite of my dessert without asking if we wanted a glass of our favorite wine we sampled or coffee to top it off or anything like that. I had asked for a box for a treat given to us since it was our anniversary, and it was never brought. While I love smaller menus with seasonal items, I felt there could have been a little variety in just the main dishes or any salad options. Overall though, it was a very fun experience and fantastic food!
Our go to restaurant for fine dining and hasn't failed us yet. We take foodie friends and family as a treat. We have gone here for our anniversary dinner the last couple years since the close of EBT
Everything was very good. The amuse and parting pasty selections were a nice touch.
Very pricey...small portions... limited menu.... great wine list
Enjoyed the elegant presentation of the various dishes and the wonderful service provided by Awista! Thank you.
Everything was wonderful and I threatened to take the chef home with me.
Few service issues during meal. Assume it was an aberration and not the norm
We love to come to Bluestem for our anniversary, and it did not disappoint! Can't wait for next year.
Best restaurant in KC!
We celebrated our anniversary at Blue Stem. We were very disappointed with the service especially with the apparent miss-communication between the kitchen and the "wine pourers". We ordered our meal with the wine pairings and on four of our five courses the wine was not introduced until well after the course was served. And then we had to ask the server what it was he was pouring. Given the reputation of Blue Stem, I would have expected much better service. We we disappointed.
Amazing as usual. Service is typically impeccable but the service wasn’t as good this time. However service was still good. Still our favorite place in Kansas City.
Really lovely seasonal food and ambience, and really great customer service. Would come back again!
Perfection... Bluestem is superlative. Food was creative and delicious. Staff knowledgeable and appropriate. Atmosphere very handsome.
The week prior we had been at a Michelin starred restaurant. Bluestem was comparable quality — Michelin’s team should go to Kansas City as we did.
Chose food and wine pairings. White wines were served at room temperature. Food quality was not consistent, some good and some bad.
Too pricey for what you get.
The food and the service were exceptional. I love this place!
This was our second time dining at Blue Stem. Exceptional service with unique flavors and presentation.
