We had a wonderful meal at Blue Stem! One of the best we have had in Kansas City. Amazing and delicious food and great service. We will definately return!
Went for a birthday dinner, meal was exceptional, the service was personal and fantastic. 100% would recommend to anyone.
Great experience, as always! Tremendous food, excellent service, and fantastic setting.
Consistently, the best fine dining experience in KC. Highly recommend the wine pairings. Great for special occasions - we go about once a year - but wish we went more.
They personalized a menu for my friends birthday, and made it very special. We also did the 10 course tasting menu...UNBELIEVABLE!
The Tasting Menu is a must for foodies. The five-course had just the right amount of food and care with both preparation and wine matches were first class. An enjoyable evening with a number of pleasant surprises. The tasting menu matches some of the best in other countries but this was more expensive than other world-class ones enjoyed in the last year in France, Canada and New Zealand.
Delicious food but service is too casual for fine dining. Wine took a long time to come even though the restaurant was not full. The bill was presented abruptly after dessert was served. Coffee was not offered and the port had not been delivered. Service and do not seem to mesh. The service is more appropriate for the bar area next door.
We continued our every three month visit to Bluestem. We have found the wine selection to be unique. Taylor has continued this tradition. We had the five course meal which we think for us is the best choice. I have tried the three course and it is great the portions are larger but if one of the three selections is not to your taste, well need I say more. The first course we both had the soup which was very good (needed a straw but I used the bread). Sopped up the remnates of the soup with the bread. 2nd course we had the pasta my wife liked this very much me not so much. They have changed their policy so that you may now take two of the third or fourth courses which is what I did. I am not a big fish fan I know I know it is good for me but. I had the steak and the pork which were both excellent. However, the pork did have a little too much fat for my taste but it was still excellent. Of course Megan's desserts need no additional praise. The only thing that I would say here is that the last section of treats before one leaves is that the carmels have gotten smaller but they are still awesome.
The food was good, but the wine pairings really put this dinner experience over the top.
Have been going to Bluestem with my wife for many years. It never disappoints; always beautiful and taste exceeds expectation every time.
The dinner was amazing and great for a special occasion. My husband and I ordered five courses and we both received a different item for each course allowing us to try everything. The food was creative and beautiful.
We had a lovely evening at bluestem. The service was excellent. We loved the small courses and slow pace of the meal. The wine pairings were also excellent. Several of the courses were outstanding, a couple were disappointing. I simply can't embrace the trend of barely cooking meats. I also felt at times that the dishes were trying a little too hard to be unusual or unique. That said, I would return and thoroughly enjoyed the majority of my meal.
An amazing meal!
Excellent service, very attentive but not over bearing. Excellent knowledge of the spledid food choices and wine. A comfortable, laid back but exquisite dining experience
This was our first full experience at Bluestem and it was fantastic. The menu had items that I wouldn't normally chose, but I decided to go for it and it was well worth it. We went with the 5 course option and each of the 5 courses was delightful. The portions were just right, for me, my partner was full after the 3rd course, but she powered through. The servers were great, very kind, helpful and personable. My date went for the wine pairings which were presented by the manager, Taylor, and she was very pleased with the whole experience. Our entire meal, with drinks, was quite pricey, for me at least, but I feel that the value is more than there. The quantity and quality of food was worth every penny. I would highly recommend Bluestem.
My husband and I have been to Blue Stem for their tasting menu many times over the years. It has always been amazing. This time, however, it was good but not great. Certainly not what I would expect at this price point.
Awesome as always. Taylor the wine steward/director was great.
My son and I went for his birthday, and they made the evening very special. This is probably the 6th time I have been here, and it never fails to impress!
We went for Valentine’s Day and heard rave reviews. We aren’t afraid to spend money on good food. When we got there, we were prepared to drop $$, but we weren’t drawn in by the menu, so we got the 3 course meals. It was good, and we enjoyed it. The food was quality, but I didn’t think we felt like it was worth the value. Neither my wife or I were satisfied with our meal to the price point. The service was solid, the wine selection was great.
This is my absolute favorite restaurant in KC.
Always the best for romance, holidays, special occasions and anyone who truly appreciates top notch food and service.
We went for Valentine’s Day. Magical evening - everything was perfection! Bluestem never disappoints, it’s a GEM!
Overpriced for both quantity and quality. This was for valentines day dinner with a set menu. Drinks were exceptional and best part of meal
Food, service and wine were great. My only complaint was that we were a little rushed. Seatings event on Valentine's should not be scheduled 90 minutes apart. 2 hours should be the bare minimum.
Lovely, just lovely. Pricy, but lively.
The service and food were some of the best I have ever experienced. We celebrated our anniversary here and the ambiance was perfect for a romantic occasion. This was our first time at Bluestem but the service made us feel right at home. For such high quality cuisine it was a very relaxed setting and in no way intimidating. We had all our questions about the meal and service answered. We knew that we were going to embellish so be prepared to enjoy without concern for the bill.
This is one of the best meals I’ve ever had, and that’s high praise coming from me. I’ve travelled extensively and have experienced top notch dining from acclaimed chefs and restaurants including several on the “World’s 50 Best” list. Who’d have thought I would find such tremendous food (that’s not BBQ) on a weekend trip to KC. Execution and presentation were world class. Bonus: try the Thai spiced whiskey hot chocolate if available at the bar and prepare for the best whipped creme you’ve ever tasted (this was a fortuitous accidental drink order).
sat on the restaurant side. good service, hit or miss cocktail menu, overall small portions and unimpressive flavor for the money. soup starter decent, rabbit cacciatore starter good, pike and scallops just ok, pork belly bland, sirloin very good, chocolate tart very good. in this price range, there are better options. I've heard the bar side offers better food and maybe better value.
Great chefs! The tasting menu was full of flavor and unique. I have celiac disease and they did a great job accommodating my gluten free request, and I still had many options! Our only complaint was it was confusing finding the entrance!
Server was dull but educated. Food looked great but slightly underwhelming, just needed some salt.
The service is poor and I was expecting fine dining with polished service. Waitress accidentally knocked glass of water but did not apologize. The host yells out thank you from somewhere in the back instead of being at the door. Just poor manners.
Great dinner. Wait staff were at bit grumpy and not too happy when we asked to move because our table was very cold. Seems because of that all other tables received a selection of little cookies with their bill. Not us!!!! A bit troublesome for me Such great inventive food deserves a more professional staff. I will still go back but maybe when the weather is warmer
Excellent everything. The best restaurant in Kansas City hands down. Perfect for a romantic evening.
Fantastic experience at Bluestem celebrating a birthday! The attention to detail in the food, wine selections, attentiveness of staff, and everything from start to finish was unparalleled. A truly understated and fantastic dinner!
Worst value in the city. The Amuse Bouche not amusing at all (2 out of 3 items deep fried and if I want sth deep fried there are much better places in KC for that), and despite the provincial opinion: Liverwurst is nothing fancy (you get a pound for 2 dollar at Aldi). The rest of the dishes, so la la, nothing excites the palate above average. The soup way too sweet, the pork belly way too fat, the steak almost well done (!), the dessert subpar, the service just o.k (had to refill my wine glass once myself). The only really good dish was the scallop dish. Kudos to this one (but one out of seven that is a terrible hit rate for a 100 dollar per person excluding drinks bill). Again despite the provincial opinion just because you use forceps when arranging a dish and the portions are small, that makes it not automatically fancy. It needs to excite the palate which means other aromas then just salt and fat. Makes me miss the “American Restaurant” even more. Go only if you don’t have to pay yourself, but even then there are much better places in KC than this one. Wine list ok, but no great deal either to make up for the food.
Always a fantastic meal at Bluestem. They seemed a bit short handed and service was a bit slower than normal - but just gave us more time to enjoy our evening.
This was our second time, the first time was fantastic all around, this time was underwhelming experience especially for the price. We chose the 7 course menu with wine pairing for a special birthday. Cost was $190 per person + additional for pre dinner drinks and + of course more for tax/tip. The food was very good, the wine was OK especially given the cost. Not sure if the 2oz pours are worth cost/glass on average especially since we thought wine was mediocre (we have the list and we looked up those we liked ..). Enjoyed our time there but felt as though it did not live up to what we were expecting overall (cost, service etc).
Hadn’t been here for several years and it was phenomenal all the way around. Food and professional staff were top notch. The rabbit is an absolute must try. Few, if any, restaurants on this level of cuisine in Kansas City. Will be back.
My brother and I's birthday was made unforgettable by our experience at bluestem. Thank you so much!
I had the foie and the pork belly the birthday lady had the rabbit and the loin. All the food was excellent and works of art.
