Bluestem Ratings and Reviews
Food was good but not spectacular.
For the price you should be blown away.
We were not. The best thing in the menu and I would go back just for this was the house made pasta and rabbit. Spectacular!
We had the 5 course meal with wine pairing.
One wine was so horrible it tasted like medicine.
The cost 170.00 per person.
Alas we will not return.
We've been to Blue Stem before and they never disappoint. The food is always outstanding and we always enjoy a 5 or 8 course meal, with wine pairings of course. This is definitely a place for foodies if you love, appreciate, and are willing spend some money on great and unique food. We've even seen other notable KC chefs dining there. There's no doubt we'll be back.
We had excellent service and the food was wonderful. Big highlight on the menu was the ricotta cappelletti with braised rabbit, but all of the courses were tasty and beautifully presented. We had some diners with food allergies, and our server was happy to check with the chef to make sure there were no problems. At the end of the meal, I asked if they did a chocolate martini (which they do). This was perhaps the best mixed drink I've ever had (but maybe tied with Cafe Trio's espresso martini?), enough so that I let everyone at the table try it!
Really amazing dinner. We all got the tasting menu with the wine pairings and all the courses were fantastic. How is it even possible for all 7 courses to be so good?! We left full but not stuffed and looking forward to another occasion for a splurge dinner at bluestem.
We did the three course pre fix and it was perfect with the wine pairings which made this more of a special experience. Next time we go back we’ll opt for a bar table so we’re not tied to multi courses. We loved the bar and pre dinner cocktails. Dining room requires reservations and bar does not.
Although a 30 minute wait past our reservation time normally would mean unhappy customers Bluestem's staff more than made up for wait. Apologies were made and when we were seated we were given the choice of any available table. The manager came over and apologized and offered to buy us our impossibly yummy cocktails. The cocktail in a bottle was fantastic. What followed was a delightful tasting menu made to perfection even with an allergy at the table. We especially liked the pasta course. The wine paring was creative and explained perfectly. On a return to trip to Kansas City this would be our first place booked.
We have made Bluestem our "go to" for our anniversaries. This year was even better than in the past. First, I told them it was our anniversary when I made the reservation (usually don't do that). Upon arrival the hostess wished us a happy anniversary. Then, upon receiving our menus, we saw a Happy 30th Anniversary across the top of the menu (as we left, they returned the menus as a keepsake). What a great touch!
The service at Bluestem is incredible. They are attentive to everything and you never have to ask for anything because they notice when anything is needed. We each did the 5 course tasting menu and I did mine with the wine pairings.
As always the presentation of the food is wonderful. Better yet, each and every course was fantastic. I love the way they explain the ingredients and preparation of each course. The wine pairings were perfect. The sommelier told me why he'd chosen each wine, where it came from and something about the grape in the wine.
I honestly cannot think of one negative about any aspect of this experience. Some might think the expense is too much, but for the service, food quality and overall atmosphere of Bluestem it's a bargain to us. Cannot wait to return!
First time we had visited. Went there for a special occasion dinner and were not disappointed by either the food or the service, both of which were excellent. We might not have tried it except for a reward certificate through Open Table. Price is high for the surroundings, but food is certainly of a very high quality and innovative. While portions were not overly generous they were certainly adequate without being wasteful.
Absolutely amazing! My wife and I dine here multiple times a year- and this is hands down the best restaurant that I have ever been to. I do not say that lightly as I have been to high end restaurants all over the United States. In my profession I have worked with amazing chefs as a restaurant manager. This place has it all. Amazing, unique food; 5-Star dining experience and service that backs it! Cannot say enough about it! Worth every dollar you spend! A must stop in Kansas City!
The food is simply amazing! I love the tasting menu the variety of the food as well as the wine pairing! The Cozy, romantic place that you can spend with friends, family, date. They constantly check on you, explain every dish, all people help you I absolutely love it.
Bluestem is widely considered the best restaurant in Kansas City and their preparations are original and well conceived. I couldn't help thinking, though, that four entrees is a very limited selection for a costly meal. Being gluten and lactose free, I chose three courses that fit my needs. My main course however, scallops, was not something I would normally choose. Other fine restaurants have gone out of their way to provide creative adaptations. For example, instead of simply ignoring me when offering the bread choices, some restaurants actually offer me gluten free rolls and win my undying admiration.
We have dined here 2 times, once in the bar area and once in the dining room. I prefer the bar area due to the huge difference on cost. You have to order from a set menu at a starting price of $75 in the dining room. The highlights were the braised rabbit pasta dish and the zucchini cake dessert. We also had the ribeye, which to our disappointment, was very chewy and stringy. The pork belly was chewy and dry as well, I have had it other places before and it basically melted in my mouth in other experiences. Wish we has dined in the bar area with more variety and a much more palatable price.
Absolutely fabulous from the minute we walked in until we left. It had been several years since my spouse and I had dined here and we were not disappointed. Every dish is both a work of art and a pleasure to one's taste buds. It is no wonder they get national attention.
Blue Stem is always a wonderful place to dine. The food is beyond creative and delicious. The wine list is superb, and the choices for the pairings are perfect. It's a treat to sit and watch the kitchen as all of the courses are prepared. Everyone from the moment you walk in are courteous and knowledgable. We recently dined there to celebrate our first year anniversary. They had special menus created congratulating us. That was a super nice touch. You can't go wrong choosing Blue Stem for dinner.
We've been here a few times for brunch and enjoyed each time. This was our first time trying the their five course dinner. Overall we thought the food was fair. The chefs seems to be heavy handed on the salt and I could barely finish my scallop dish because of this reason. The food overall wasn't anything memorable. I do have to say the desert was my favorite!!! We didn't try the wine pairing but the cocktails we ordered were excellent! I'm glad we tried their dinner once but I don't think we will go back for dinner any time soon.
