Bluestem Brasserie Ratings and Reviews
This is perfect for a business lunch - it's beautiful, the staff is gracious, menu interesting, food excellent, noise level not bad. It's close to Moscone center and major hotels. It's also a great place to stop for a bite after visiting SFMOMA or Yerba Buena.
Great looking restaurant. Very personable hosts and waiters. Fun/cool/hipster inside .. we sat on a nice couch for our lunch. Food was very good, unique, surpassed expectations. Lunch for two was a little pricing for two at $75 with tip (it was a business meal but I was personally paying) ... but I would go back for lunch and dinner! Yes, a fun, interesting, unique restaurant in SF :=)
Overall, I would recommend the Bluestem for great food, cocktails and friendly staff. The service was a bit slow, 10 minutes went by after beinf seated before we saw a staff person, but after that the staff was attentive, just enough.
I would suggest they turn down the music just a notch. Having a conversation was borderline difficult.
Went for NYE 2018 to celebrate with a group of 12. Their prix fixe menu looked great described on paper and then you get your $85 meal and you realize it’s fit for folks who have lost all taste buds and have no idea what they’re eating. By far the worst dinner I’ve had let alone it being categorized as the worst NYE dinner I’ve ever had. And when it came down to ordering dessert, they ran out of the dessert we all were looking forward to, as if they weren’t prepared for an NYE night full of paying celebrating customers—what’s the point of making a reservation?? Our dinner was not worth $85 per. I wish I was the only one who felt this way but I’m not, all 12 of us felt the same way. We dropped $1600 that night, $1600. Thoroughly disappointed.
This place is a joke... I booked at the last minute for New Year's Eve and my first clue should have been that had availability. Service was unbelievably slow but the server was super friendly. The $85 fixed menu wasn't the issue but for $85 my entree consisted of three scallops that were the size of a nickel. They weren't even cooked properly. I have literally never felt so ripped-off at a restaurant. This place must be running on fumes. No local in their right mind should go here. It belongs at Fisherman's Wharf...
Bluestem had great atmosphere and looked like a fun place to hang out for an hour or so on NYE. The service, however, and food were terrible. Our waitress was nice but seemed new and wasn't very attentive. The food was awful. Bluestem offered a pre-fix menu which is expected for NYE and normally we don't mind paying extra but this wasn't anywhere near worth the $85 per person. The final bill with tax ended up being $230. The filet was o.k. and was served with two tablespoons of cold mashed potatoes and raw broccolini. My husband ordered the duck which was extremely small and very fatty along with a side of raw carrots with the green tops still attached. We felt completely robbed of our money and our dinner experience for NYE. I would never recommend this restaurant.
Our server disappointed. Took so long to greet out table, take our order, entrees took so long to come out was let down after talking up Bluestem to my friend's. Tried to get someones attention multiple times during the waiting periods but couldn't get anyone's attention. Will be back because I've signed there many times before.
From the minute we walked in the door, everyone that worked there was so friendly. The servers help each other out and when there was a problem, it got fixed immediately. Our server was attentive without being obnoxious. Because we had an issue with one of the dishes not being prepared correctly, they apologized and sent us a complimentary order of beignets to finish our brunch. I have eaten at this restaurant four times, and each time has been a very pleasant experience.
Bar tender forgot to take our order. We waited for about 20 min to get our order taken. We ordered drinks and food the food came out, but the drinks never came. Really disappointed in the service the food was good but just lost my business since it took so long to get an order in and our cocktails never came out. We were never checked on to see how the food was, which we could have addressed the cocktails coming out but it just never happened.
great ambiance for a date. Beautifully decorated and nice lighting.
Service was slow to get us our drinks and it did not seem very busy. I was going to get a second drink but was never asked if I wanted one and did not see our waitress enough to get another drink.
I asked for the burger medium rare, I was told that they cannot take temperature requests because it is a double burger with thin patties although the waitress mentioned it's usually slightly pink. The burger came well done with no pink. While the patties were thin, they were not five guys thin, and could have definitely been cooked less. I asked the waitress if the burgers are usually cooked this much and she said they can't take requests and walked away. I ate the burger but it was not the best and certainly not worth $18.
My Fiance ordered the pork chop and it was pretty good, not great.
We got espresso for dessert and service was very slow to bring the espresso, and then another long wait before we could ask for the check.
I would not recommend this restaurant and will not return if I'm in the area.
Bluestem Brasserie is a delightful place for dinner downtown. The ambiance is relaxed but sophisticated, seems like a perfect meeting place after work. The food is delicious and portions quite generous. The wine list is very well chosen. The only blip in our experience, despite having a reservation, was not being acknowledged, given water or asked to order drinks/apps for quite awhile once we were seated. The owner was quick to acknowledge and gave us a round of seasonal, very tasty punch. The waitress also missed ordering an entree, then expedited it, once realized. Anyhow, I look forward to going back, as the food/drink are very much worth it.
From the moment you walk in the door, every person in the restaurant greets you with a friendly smile. There's quite a large staff that keeps everyone happy and feels welcome and important. Our waiter, Mandy, could not have been more helpful, attentive and personable. You should visit Bluestem when you are in SF!
I ventured to Bluestem to catch up over dinner with a dear friend. Highlights included the cocktail and dessert menus, which both featured seasonal treats! Our small plates also were enjoyable. Super convenient location by BART's Powell station, if commuting in.
Steak was fine, but frites were tough and had a strong oil flavoring. I was eating alone so had brought a book to read, but it was so dark I was unable to. The glass table is a bit of a problem when cutting into a steak ... my plate decided to take off on its own.
I set up a holiday dinner for 12 at a large live edge table next to two huge windows looking out on the plaza on the first floor. Stacy was helpful with setting it up. The food was great, the area was quiet enough for all twelve people to talk across the oval table and the service was perfect. Our lead server seemed to always be there when we needed something but not on top of us. We had a blast and would definitely go back. The location is great too for being close to Union Square, Downtown and SOMA but not in the fray. Parking was easy.
