Bluestem Brasserie Ratings and Reviews
I can't express enough how much I love their salumi and cheese boards, bone marrow and the steak and frites.
Their salumi and cheese selection has varied each time I came here but I was never disappointed. This was also my first time trying bone marrow, and it really lived up to the hype. Just spread it on a crostini - perfection.
Also tried their watermelon and tequila drink, thinking it would be really good but it was actually pretty painful to drink. I'd go with the blueberry whiskey one.
Loved loved loved this place. The wines on tap were amazing (I had the Syrah and the cote de rhone) and the food was fantastic. Mussels were cooked to perfection and the white wine sauce was good enough to drink. Great atmosphere and wonderful service - I was travelling alone on business and had made a reservation for one (so sad). They reserved me a great little seat in the lounge that was perfect for people watching on market street and didn't make me feel awkward all alone! Loved this place!
3 co-workers in town for meetings. Client recommended and good reviews on yelp. Bone marrow appetizer was good. Hamburger was flavorless, the bun was dry/stale, and the fries were cold. I think out server waited too long to bring our food. He was insanely slow. Plank salmon was not good and the third dish was steak - over cooked. All in all - very disappointing
This venue has one of the best bars I've ever frequented. It is the acoustically quietest bar in the city. You can simply speak to the person next to you without raising your voice at all. One can eat at the bar, but taking a table is a real treat. The people who wait on your table are all really friendly, knowledgeable, fun, and just the right level of attentive. You are likely to see and/or speak with the owner, who is genuinely interested in your dining experience. The bartenders are quick, efficient, and fun. I love this place and the people who work there. I only wish they would be required to sign a 5 year contract because it's so sad to see one of them move on to another job.
We really enjoyed our experience at BB - the food, drinks were great as well as the bartender. We really liked our waitress, but she wasn't as attentive as she could have been. Our only complaint was that when we arrived (with a reservation) the restaurant was very empty and we were seated in the very back corner booth where the service team enters the kitchen...C'mon..... to their credit, they moved us to a very nice table when we asked. Would definitely dine here again....
We dined here while in town for a conference. It's walk-able from the convention center/Union Square. The food was good. I recommend the tomato/peach salad - a unique and delicious flavor combo. The waiter didn't rush us at all and was helpful with suggestions.
I had the country paté, steak frites and the 'Chocolate "to infinity and beyond"' to finish. All the food was very good, each course better than the previous course. Not the best steak I've ever had, but still pretty good. The chocolate dessert was incredibly rich, but worth it. Service was good too. Definitely would eat here again.
I like to think of Bluestem as our hide in plain site gem. Right on Market near Moscone, the quality and creativity of the food is head and shoulders above the rest of the neighborhood. The roasted bone marrow is my girlfriend's go-to dish (it IS incredibly rich). I've bounced around their menu. Tonight was heriloom zucchini (excellent) and their take on pupusas with a side of mac and cheese thrown in. The pupusa was the only thing that didn't utterly wow. The thin sliced zukes were fantastic and the mac and cheese with it's crisp cheese crust was killer. Bluestem does a fantastic interpretation of American classics with an SF flair and style.
Had a business lunch here & staff were very accommodating with last minute changes to group numbers - thank you! Food quality is exceptionally high and good value. Stand-out items for our group were the Steak & Frites and Lamb Special (done 2 ways), and salads. The Duck & Pasta soup was very tasty too. Very attentive service and nice open ambiance. We'll be back.....
Came here with my husband for our anniversary dinner. The food is great and there are options for everyone. Our server, however, was nowhere to be seen most of the night. We waited for most of the night. To order our food (30 min wait) to get boxes (30 min wait after we had stopped eating) and for the check (20 minutes after she boxed our food). The place was not busy at all and the table beside us had a great server who seemed to enjoy his job and really take care of his tables. Sucks we had the server who could care less that we were there.
The staff, the food and the service were all outstanding! Every staff member was courteous, professional and friendly. They were attentive to our time to make the theater, and made our dining experience comfortable and memorable. The food was awesome, including the desserts. Special thanks to Andrew our waiter.
We were staying at the Marriot on 4th and Market and wanted to find a great resturant close by. So happy to have found Bluestem Brasserie. Everything was amazing, loved the crafts of wine, great salad and all our entrees were yummy. My salmon, which I order at almost every resturant, was one if my favorites ever.
Everything was awesome. I put in a little note asking for a nice table for my girlfriend's birthday. They put us on the balcony above the bar, with a great view of the entire restaurant as well as the skyscrapers outside. Made me look really good for my date. Food was delicious, although maybe slightly on the saltier side if you're a health nut. One of our steaks had a COFFEE CRUST. Amazing.
Was sat in the rear of the restaurant with six people. No one else came in while we were there and there was plenty of tables. When we complained they did apologized and gave us a free desset. Seriously? Waitress was nice but had a heavy accent and couldn't understand a word she was saying. One of our dishes (pork) was tough and sent it back. We also got charged for seven dinners not six. NEVER GOING BACK THERE AGAIN. SO DISAPPOINTED!!!
Service and Food - VERY GOOD... wish they were more consistent on some of their offerings - as they no longer serve certain dishes that I was looking forward to - but their Duck Confit Salad did NOT disappoint - and the servers were great and making sure our water was constantly filled and checking in with us to make sure we were good... Am looking forward to going back and trying other dishes!
My friend from Australia was visiting and we had a short time for lunch and for our visit. They gave us a very nice table and did not rush us even though this is in the financial district and it was pact with people during the lunch hour. Our food was deliicious ( I had the Tuesday special chicken sandwich andshe had the filet mignon) and the service could not have been any better! Looking forward to my return
We arrived around 3:05 for our 3pm reservation -- first time there. I could tell we came in during transition of service, as most of the staff were maybe management. As we were on a time constraint, we immediately ordered our meal after being seated for 10mins. After about another 10mins, our starters/apps came out. Then there was an odd lag for our entrees of the lamb meatballs, salmon and fries -- we finally received them around 356p after I flagged our server to check on our food, as I needed to get to work. Food tasted good, but I didn't get enjoy it as I was already late and hungry. The server comp'd our salad and fries, but I would've appreciated a status update on why our entrees took so long more.
Chose this place for the scenery and the downtown location, menu looked good. Once there staff, was very friendly, professional, and accommodating. Food was great, and portions were substantial. Prices were average and ambiance was very San Francisco. A very pleasant experience.
We went with a group of 13, you would have thought they'd show us some attention.
Instead, it too 30 minutes for drinks to arrive, 1:30 for appetizers, another hour for food, and we were basically scoffed at when we asked for bread in the middle of all that waiting. Ask where the food is, get a snarky, "it's cooking".. Then wait another hour. Have plans after dinner? Better abandon them. Want great food for a reasonable price? Look elsewhere. Want good food at a high price with horrible service? This is your spot!
I was very impressed with the staff, the food and the ambience at Bluestem. Coming there with a group of 13, I did not expect to be able to visit with everyone. The Racher's table (big round table by window) was absolutely perfect for our group. I was able to see everyone and we could converse pretty easily. The noise wasn't too loud in the restaurant. I wish I would have remembered our server's name because he was wonderful. The food was all amazing too. We had a lot of the items on the menu, both appetizer and entrees, and they were all very good. I was so happy with this visit!
If like us you are looking for a great place near Union Square, look no further. My wife had the croque madam; one of her favorite brunch staples. I had a half dozen prefectly fresh oysters and the salumi and charcuterie plate; all house made. Excellent. Our server Ryan was timely but never obtrusive. Great cocktails (try the sparkler with watermellon and basil), their take on a billini. Nice wine by the glass list as well.
We had already tasted some of Chef Fran's work the previous week so we had pretty high expectations for the ingenuity of pairing, the flavors, seasoning and the overall quality of the food. Even still we were both surprised and delighted by what we had. The ribs were exceptional, seducing us into eating them with our hands, despite how classy a place it is. They were accompanied by a melon fruit salad that had us guessing the delectable spices used, and a biscuit that had us leaning back in our seats relishing its deep savory flavor.
The lamb meatballs were even better than we expected. To anyone going: get them, it'll be the best decision you make all week.
