Steak was fine, but frites were tough and had a strong oil flavoring. I was eating alone so had brought a book to read, but it was so dark I was unable to. The glass table is a bit of a problem when cutting into a steak ... my plate decided to take off on its own.

Food was delicious and different in pairing the flavours. Service could have been better. Like for steak meals they could provide with steak knife without having to ask for it.

Really excellent food. We had the steelhead and pork chop; both bursting with flavor. The accompaniments complemented the mains really well. Even the dessert was great!

I set up a holiday dinner for 12 at a large live edge table next to two huge windows looking out on the plaza on the first floor. Stacy was helpful with setting it up. The food was great, the area was quiet enough for all twelve people to talk across the oval table and the service was perfect. Our lead server seemed to always be there when we needed something but not on top of us. We had a blast and would definitely go back. The location is great too for being close to Union Square, Downtown and SOMA but not in the fray. Parking was easy.

Thanks Stacy.

Noise level was the most intense of any of our visits over the last 3 years; it was hard to have a conversation. Meat was undercooked but the restaurant adjusted the bill. Lots of confusion and a long wait when we checked in for our reservation. The menu changes have removed some of our favorite dishes and we found fewer choices that were appealing. Service was good, as usual.

3 friends and I shared a lovely Birthday meal at Bluestem. The service was wonderful and the food was amazing. We had to keep ordering sides to get to try everything that sounded delicious. We had the duck salad for the table. I was the least excited for this dish but it turned out to be my favorite. The duck was perfect and the dressing was delicious. Two of us had the chicken and two had the trout. Both wonderful dishes with tasty veggies. We were even able to sub out the grain side for a veggie side. For extra sides we ordered the fries with parm and butternut squash both spot on and made my taset buds dance. We didn't have space or time for dessert before we headed off to a concert. It was a Perfect Birthday meal! Thanks Bluestem.

This was our 4th visit, on Black Friday. Bar got the drink orders wrong not once but twice. Dishes were over salted. We assume this was a bad night as our prior three experiences have been good.

We came from LA specially to celebrate thanks-giving.
I can’t even explain how bad experience we had, in a way that this special holiday was ruined.
Food was average.
Service was rude.
Waiting time for main course was over an hour.
And for dessert we got a piece of paper inside the ice-cream.
Not recommended at all !

We came for Thanksgiving dinner. We were seated more than 30 minutes after our reservation. There were lulls in service, which is highly disapointing given the fixed menu. Our waiter seemed taxed and unavailable. Our food was bland and incredibly underwhelming especially factoring for the price. We were served the wrong entree and they did not offer to take both back so that we could actually have our Thanksgiving together. Then when the correct entree came out it was undercooked/inedible. With a fixed menu price of $85 per person (> than some Michelin restaurants) it was offensive to be served bland food, the wrong order, undercooked fish, etc.

We booked Bluestem Brasserie for Thanksgiving Dinner. We had an okay time, but expected more for the amount we paid. Long wait for the table (even though we had reservation), super small portions, long wait for the courses... Was not impressed by the food either, but that might be just my thing. Would not recommend the place, I am sorry.

Disappointing Thanksgvinig meal. Took 3 hours for a 6:30 reaervation. By the time they served us, there was no stuffing left for us on a set menu. They offered fresh baked rolls as a choice and they came very stale. Also, my mojito had no mint. Very strange for a full service bar. Maybe they are good on a normal day, bit this was an awful experience. It was an extemely expensive meal to be so unenjoyable. The cost was almost $500 for 4 people with a tip.

While the food was excellent, the speed of the service was something else. It should not take 20 mins after finishing a course for the waitstaff to clear the dishes then another 15 for the next course to appear. Total time from sitting down to leaving was 2hrs and 30 mins. You would think that on a busy Thanksgiving night you would want to clear people out as soon as they wish to leave.

Thanksgiving was our first visit to Bluestem. They served a 4 course prix fixe menu for $85.

Our server, Journey, was bright, friendly, and efficient; she easily answered any food/wine questions.

We each started with one of their signature cocktails; they were quite good. We split 500ml of a nice Zinfandel.

The amuse bouche (sushi rice, duck prosciutto, pineapple relish) was delicious.

The cauliflower-leek soup was tasty.

The salad was an unfortunate miss: fresh but UNDRESSED mixed greens, fennel, citrus, toasted almonds, ricotta salata - should have been good, right? It was not. Mine had ZERO ricotta salata, and the two dollops of tangerine agrumato (fruited olive oil) were harshly bitter. The salad was unbalanced: too many acidic, not enough savory elements.

For the entree, I had the herb crusted roast beef ($10 supplement); while the beef was tender, it was over cooked: gray almost throughout, only slightly pink in the center. It was served with a spoonful of what tasted like straight-out-of-jar horseradish. A more subtle horseradish cream would have been wonderful.

My companion ordered the turkey roulade (described by our waitress as turkey breast rolled around sausage made from turkey leg). Sadly, it was so dried out as to have been INEDIBLE. Our server took it away and quickly brought a replacement entree (also beef - this portion was properly pink).

Three sides were included; we added a fourth for $8. The mac n cheese was surprisingly good; the mashed potato, meh; the brussels sprouts, soggy and slightly burnt; and the "caramelized" carrots were seasoned with a hot spice, so only one of us could eat them - the menu should have indicated their hot spicy character.

The dessert was less a cheesecake than a pumpkin soufflé bar, but still tasty. Good ginger cookie crust, tasty cinnamon cream topping; unfortunately, the candied pepitas were missing.

All in all, the food was just okay. The service, very good. The bill, with 20% tip, was $320.

We celebrated our anniversary here and the staff gave us red carpet service. They opened the patio for us even though it was closed for the evening-wow! They even served us champagne to commemorate the occasion. The food was great. My husband was SO pleased! We’ll definitely return! Thanks a million to the staff.

We finished shopping early so the hostess kindly seated us earlier than our reservation. Enjoyed a well made lemon drop and my guest had a glass of wine which seemed to me to be a short pour. We both ordered the one pasta dish on the menu and were quite pleased with the amount and its creamy flavor. The location is so convenient after a day in the stores or the museums.

Bluestem is consistently good, and the atmosphere and menu are great for an upscale meal at lunch or dinner. Love the modern yet cozy atmosphere. Fantastic location. My wife and I were in SF for Business and she had a night off so we went out for dinner. It took almost an hour to have the food arrive at the table and the chicken was cold and NOT GOOD! We told the waitress and she said sorry and offered a Dessert which since we are on a no carb diet didn’t work for us. I suggested maybe a round of drinks or take the chicken off the bill. She talked to the manager and then never came back but had him bring the bill back and had done nothing for us. We spent $160 basically for 1 meal and 4 drinks. Would stay away from this place!!!

Overall great experience, the food was delicious. The menu was limited, it could have used more vegetarian options other than salads. When I checked the menu on- line the night before I saw a great looking vegetarian sandwich and entree option, but it wasn't offered the next day for lunch. Great service, fun area.

We were there for dinner after an all day client event. The menu was limited on options. I ordered steak and it was ok. It came with fries only, no vegetables. I upgraded to the truffle fries and they were the worst I've ever had. They tasted like cold leftover fries that had powered parmesan dumped on them. One of my colleague tried a specialty drink and it was bitter and not well done.

Overall good experience for our party of seven. Not an extensive menu, so some in our party opted for multiple appetizers/sides instead of an entree. The deviled eggs were a big hit, as well as the cheese and charcuterie platter. Oysters were outstanding. Drinks were good as well, and the wine list was reasonably priced. Only downside was service, which I found to be rather indifferent. We had to flag our waiter down a couple of times during the meal, and they seemed to have no clue who ordered what when the food was served.
