Food was REALLY SALTY. mushroom soup was almost inedible. I stopped eating it 1/4 of the way through. Then had the pork chop. It had a good smoky flavor but was also salty and greasy. Bartender was a jerk. Made terrible recommendations and copped an attitude when I didn’t like them. Not great.
Had lunch on a Sunday with my family. The restaurant was clean and the food was excellent. We had the fried chicken sandwich and it was delicious. The service was perfect. I highly recommend it.
Burgers were just okay, nice place though!
Consistently good spot, one of my top picks for a nice, but not over-the-top business lunch
The service was extremely slow, wrong orders arrived, etc, but sometimes that just happens. Less forgivable part is that the entrees (steak frites and grilled fish and veg sides) arrived room temp to cool. $200 for 2, not a great service experience and a bad food experience.
Raw pork chops, steak nearly inedible.
Our meals were absolutely delicious and delightfully flavored with some great surprises. The maitred’ recommended the strawberry cake for our birthday dessert. It was heavenly. Finally our server was one of the best I have ever encountered. She was sensitive to preferences and allergies and made sure everything was just right. I was so pleased as I had never eaten at the restaurant and it was a truly memorable experience. Hoorah!
The pork chop entree was delicious. The pasta entree was very mediocre, quite tasteless. Portions are adequate, but not for hungry eaters. Ironically, dessert was very good, but much more generous of a proportion than the entrees. Overall impression: we will not rush back!!!
We thought the deviled egg sandwich was a little underwhelming. However the service was phenomenal.
Overall good. Sides came before entree and should have come with entree
While the food was OK, and our service was OK, the price for value was definitely NOT OK.
A stylish and delicious destination for lunch! The space is so well designed to allow privacy for business conversations or catching up with friends. The menu evolves seasonally, while favorites always remain available.
Never disappointed! Best brunch in SF
Food was tasty! Lots of options for vegans and vegetarians. The service was particularly slow. It took an hour to get our food. :(
Food was solid, but not special. We asked for bread and were told that we could purchase the bread appetizer; that was a complete turn off. We were already ordering appetizers and drinks. We wanted something to nosh on while we drank. With so many choices in SF for food, I would not go back here.
Yet another satisfactory meal at Bluestem! I ordered the duck confirm salad, almost always, and suggested my friend order the lamb leg sandwich which looked great. Service was quick!
Great experience. Only one MAJOR issue: these guys serve a homogenized cold red beet gazpacho and call is Borscht. Bad move to appeal to anyone who has ever been exposed to a authentic Russian cuisine. Please send your chef to Katia’s Tea Room for an internship. :))
Excellent food , pleasant atmosphere and staff. Clean and comfortable.
Met friends here from out of town for brunch. Every dish was quite good and everyone was pleased with their selection. Arrived early and had some drinks at the bar.... Very attentive bartender who took time to answer question about the brunch menu. Excellent experience and very good eats. Attentive wait staff who easily assisted with one of our party with food allergies. Very good experience....tasty food.
Hip, sleek, modern décor yet comfortable.
The trout tartar was out of this world!
I liked it a lot. The pork chop was outstanding. I thought the steak prices were out of line. I would pay the price but only where it is their specialty. I will definitely be back and give a recommendation
We went here on the recommendation of the front desk person at our hotel, and we had a wonderful lunch. We liked it so much that we came back for dinner the same day! For lunch we had a seat overlooking the courtyard outside, and it was great people watching. Very friendly staff. Dinner went a bit faster than we might have preferred, but looking back we probably could have slowed things down a bit if we had said something. We have already recommended it to friends, and we plan a return visit on our next trip to San Fran.
Very good service, good food, and nice atomosphere.
I ordered the chef’s vegetable selection. YUCK. $25 and I took two bites. Dessert was solid though. Skip the veggies and get dessert.
Great food, great service, great ambience.
This is one of my favorite local restaurants in San Francisco located very near Union Square. The drink menu is excellent and the food menu is always creative and always changing. Be sure to order some of the appetizers! The trout on toast (I forget the actual name) was outstanding and very generously portioned. The $18 hamburger is one of the best you'll ever have and the scallops are superb. Don't miss it! Make this your regular hangout during JP Morgan or any of the many conferences at the Moscone and be sure to have reservations!
It was our first visit. We had the SF Restaurant week dinner
All of the courses were very good. Almost too much food. 3
Apps great entre choices. Only the chocolate desert was
So so. The only negative was the music. It is not in keeping
with the experience
Was really disappointed to hear that they were not doing restaurant week even though it was advertised in the OpenTable website. Aside from that the food was pretty basic for the price, they were out of some ingredients for one of their more popular dishes. Overall the restaurant was underwhelming.
Really great burger and fries. The dessert was excellent. It was a great place to wind down after a day of travel.
Lemon was too strong in the Brussels sprouts. Steak was over done. Steak was $48! I cook a better $15 ribeye at home.
Bluestem is okay but the service is a bit slow. Some of the dishes were excellent (chicken liver toast), some fine but nothing special. Overall it was good but there's better in SF.
Excellent food, cocktails, desserts, and service!
I had better expectations for this place. The bartender was awesome but as soon as we were seated, it felt like the dinner went south. The devil eggs were spicy...didn’t expect that. The octopus was good but the potatoes accompanying it were spicy. Didn’t expect that either. The mussels were good. I like that. I ordered the burger med-well, but it came very rare. The macaroni and cheese was ok. My experience here was mediocre. I don’t think I’ll be going back.
This is the second time we made reservations at Bluestem and they did not disappoint. They even made my son feel special on his 15th Birthday by bringing him out a cinnamon bun. I would highly recommend this place. Food is great and the service was awesome! Thank you!
This is perfect for a business lunch - it's beautiful, the staff is gracious, menu interesting, food excellent, noise level not bad. It's close to Moscone center and major hotels. It's also a great place to stop for a bite after visiting SFMOMA or Yerba Buena.
Great looking restaurant. Very personable hosts and waiters. Fun/cool/hipster inside .. we sat on a nice couch for our lunch. Food was very good, unique, surpassed expectations. Lunch for two was a little pricing for two at $75 with tip (it was a business meal but I was personally paying) ... but I would go back for lunch and dinner! Yes, a fun, interesting, unique restaurant in SF :=)
Food was great would be better if service was attentive and not MIA.
Great food and good service. Nice bar area as well for a pre dinner drink.
The service was amiable, but the food was mediocre. Overpriced for the quality. The decor is interesting--a bit diner retro with a sprinkling of class, and the location is great.
Love the interiors of the restaurant, and the food is fantastic. Ate there twice in the same week.
