Bluestem Brasserie features a familiar brasserie menu of fresh, simply composed dishes; distinct cocktails; a satisfying wine list with 12 on tap, sourced directly from Napa and Sonoma's finest producers - offered at a great value.
Named after the indigenous North American grass favored by cattle, Bluestem will showcase sustainably produced beef from highly regarded purveyors with an emphasis on whole-animal utilization. Ingredients sourced directly from the ranchers. Savory items are balanced by a dessert menu of classic, brasserie-style selections.
A theme of terroir extends from the menu of house-made items to the carefully crafted wine list.
Food was good, service was good, but their wine glass pours are less than standard. A glass of wine should be a quarter of a 750 ml bottle. The glass was maybe half of a standard glass pour.
Perfect location for a team dinner for 10. Good entries. Ok apps. Could use a few more selections to share.
Se loved this place. Great location, too
Service, food and ambiance was excellent! We were there for hours and the staff was absolutely great to us. :)
Lovely place for a special weekend brunch. Bring a sweater - the dining room was quite cold.
The hostess was a bit slow. Everything else was great.
Good place with easy access from convention center. Food and drinks were really good!
So great! Food was amazing and the employees were awesome! The manager even brought us a complementary cake and it was so good! Will come back for sure.
Birthday dinner for my husband
First, making (and changing) my reservation through OpenTable was easy. Second, the staff never disappoints. Third, they can handle you and your group, big or small. I had the chance to get to know the Asst. GM John on one of my visits and what an added treat. Billy Ray was a GREAT server too! The wonderful nature of this staff... on top of the great food.. made for wonderful business dinners we had there 2 nights in a row. I will continue to be a patron of Bluestem.
I ate there for lunch and dinner. Same menu and was very limited.
Table service is not the most attentive or expeditious. We tried on several occasions to signal the server was failed since he walked around with his eyes down between tables. Just did not feel very hospitable dining experience. Food was good but for a lunch meal, the full entree prices seemed very high for the area, comparing similar quality sit down environments.
I like this restaurant. It doesn't try to do too much but what it does is delicious. From the bar tenders tot he wait staff to the managers, they seem very well trained to put me first.. The food was surprising in its excellence. The Mushroom and Broccoli side, had very unusual mushrooms. The Salmon mouse was creamy. The Watermelon salad had very unusal and seductive dressing. I had the half roast chicken and it was all there and very moist. No one complained about any of the entries. And the wine list was a bit pricey so we opted for a selection from the draft wines and it was very very good. You'll see me there often for the food and the great location. Easy walk to The Golden Gate for plays or the Moscone for conferences!
Love this place. Every time I go into the city to see a play or musical we eat dinner here. Never disappoints. Service is great and food is delicious.
Bluestem Brasserie is a go-to restaurant for me more out of the balance of convenient location and quality than anything else. It's not cheap, but it won't break the bank. It has an upscale feel without being overpriced. That said, our recent experience was a little shaky. We were a party of 9 at the corner redwood burl table, and our server could not have been more lovely. But the pace of the service--the restaurant as a whole was not super-busy--was incredibly slow, and one of our group didn't get her entree until the rest of us were nearly done. I'll be back, but watching you, BB.
Above average experience. Lunch meeting. Very busy at lunch. Food was eclectic. Not much variety.
Food is delicious but service is SLOW! Waiters are forgetful and bar is slow.
We arrived earlier than our brunch reservation was made for, but the hostess was able to seat us at a nice, quiet corner table. Our waiter was extremely nice and when we asked about his favorite dishes, he gave us several choices and why they were so good in his opinion...he did not steer us wrong! I ordered a very refreshing cocktail and the steak & eggs combo, which was delicious. My sister had the burger and if the moaning with pleasure after every bite was any indication, I think she loved her meal! Bluestem Brasserie is a restaurant I'll go back to and recommend to my friends.
We gathered for a birthday brunch for my boyfriend, and it was delicious! We had the croque madame, the cinnamon roll, and biscuits and gravy. Everything was delicious, well presented and hot from the kitchen. Generous portions, decent coffee and excellent service. Sadly, they didn’t offer us a treat for our birthday celebrant, but we were so full, I don’t think we could have managed one more bite. We will definitely be back.
An excellent spot for lunch(and I'm sure dinner), in the heart of downtown, a couple blocks from Union Square or Metreon, and just down the street from Westfield mall.
The service here is awesome. They will make pretty much any IBA cocktail you name off the menu, which is rare even for restaurants in the city--most places lack certain ingredients needed to make some off-the-beaten-path drinks! If you request a written message on a dessert plate, the waiter will be well informed and more than on top of it. They will not give you a hard time if you stay past paying for the check either, assuming it isn't a busy rush period. I greatly appreciated this part of the experience.
The food is pretty good all around. Corn bread is tasty. Fries are solid, but I'd skip the truffle parmesan, which was a bit too cheesy for my taste. The yellow tail was the highlight entree. The duck confit salad was a bit on the salty side but still well executed. The yellow cake with Bavarian custard/cream we had in the end was an excellent end to our meal. Truly one of those places that we would like to come back to!
Great place for pre-theater dinner. Close to BART and easy walk to the theaters. Nice wine list, fun cocktails, and good food. The fried chicken sandwich was very good, which was what most of our party got. The Hangover cake for dessert - the bomb. Portions are large, so entres can be shared easily.
Service was excellent. Wonderful evening all around.
BB has a very eclectic menu, and each dish we got was so tasty. The restaurant was quiet and easy, and the background music songfest was amazing. Our waitress was the best! The only downside was that the bar took a long time to get our drinks prepared.
Service was super slow and rather unapologetic.
We had called in advance advising of a special occasion and they confirmed they would do something. Then they did nothing.
Food when it arrived was generally very tasty.
Very nice environment
Boring and ordinaty food.
Nothing negative to say at all. Great food and great service. Location good for Union Square visitors. (For beer lovers, the Porters (dark) is well worth a try.) Enjoy!
We had a wonderful brunch here...and delicious. Try the cinnamon roll. It is to die for! But all the dishes were incredible and it is a beautiful restaurant!
Restaurant was empty, despite that the service was not good, the waiter tried too hard and the food was definitely not at the level expected! A real shame!
Very good food and very efficient, friendly service
Wonderfully quiet lunch. For those curious about long-dead human traditions like conversation this place had got you covered.
very friendly. Attentive host. Responsive server. Appetizer though did require a reminder and arrived about four minutes before main course.
Hamburger was excellent.
Deviled egg was a good, but tiny serving.
Almond "Bites" were vaguely spicy and had a rubbery-soft coating.
Crispy Pork Belly was good, but quite fatty even for pork belly.
Filet Mignon was very tender, though the 3/4 of one teaspoon of "Bleu cheese butter" was to scant to taste (I asked for another option and the waiter said the had nothing else), and the 1 1/2 tablespoons of flaccid mushrooms did not include flavor.
Honolulu Hangover cake was clearly built for visual impact, oversized and comprehensively bland: mealy chocolate cake was no match for store bought mix from Safeway (may have been left over from weekend run), thick, pasty filling tasted like nothing, thin meringue frosting struggled nobly in vain to make up for all of this.
Devil's food Cake was very good, though naturally awkward and a bit of a mess to leverage from the tall parfait glass.
Will return. Menu has many promising options. Room is quiet and attractive. Will not get dessert.
Nice space with very courteous and friendly staff. Fun cocktails good place to check out if you are in the neighborhood.
Dined with my husband. I had the vegan pupusos and he had the amberjack. We also ordered artichoke hearts and corn bread. Everything was delicious and the corn bread was simply outstanding.
One of our favorite places in the city!!
The food is original and great! The service wonderful and the drinks creative.
The food was good, but the service was terribly slow. We ordered several small plates, and after 30+ minutes, everything came out at once. They had to pull up another table to fit everything. Drinks service was slow, and everything was over-priced.
Waiter was very pushy with the specials.
Business meeting. The staff was just awesome and food was perfect.
Best brunch, best lunch, and best service in the Union Square area! We frequent bluestem and always walk away pleased with everything.
Tourist trap. Butchery steak was so tough and extremely salty i didn't bother eating it.
Such nice staff with attentive service. Fun drinks. The food was interesting with some things being very good to others a bit odd. The chicken liver toasts were a “miss” too much liver hard to cut toast and the fruit didn’t go. The vegan dish, the pasta special, the lattes and the corn bread was great. We will be back.
We liked the location of Bluestem to SF MOMA. Service was very good, people friendly but food just so so.
