The service and staff were incredible...not to mention the food. Will definitely return
My friends and I had a lovely dinner and it was great to be able to hear each other when we spoke. Fantastic FOOD!
Adam ways takes great care of me. The food is always on point, service 5 star. My only complaint is that they were out of burata but replaced it gratis with an incredible substitute of iron skillet corn bread that I never would have ordered but was a delight. I really should come here more often...
We had a wonderful luncheon. The server was charming and informative. The food was very good. The Butternut squash soup was complex and tasty. The grass-fed beef burger was cooked perfectly. The 5 cookie sampler was definitely the right way to cap off the meal. We're already talking about returning in 2020 for our annual girls trip to SF.
This place is fantastic. The ambience was very calm and elegant. We didn’t even notice any noise from the other tables and could easily have a conversation without feeling like we had to yell. The food was exceptional. I highly recommend their pork belly and steak tartare! The pork belly truly melts in your mouth. Drinks were on point and beautiful to look at. Wait staff was very friendly and attentive. It’s also in a great location. Went here before heading to Oracle park to see a Cirque du Soleil show. Will 100% be back and recommending to all of my friends.
My husband and I had a horrible experience eating here for our first time and so did everyone else in the 7 tables surrounding us. The manager, who attempted to apologize to every table, did so without a true care, zero smile or courtesy-like facial expressions, and no acknowledgement that the many issues that occurred has nothing to do with the only issue the manager sited...”the kitchen was backed up” (with a very lightly busy restaurant). we weren’t greeted or made eye contact with by a server until 15 minutes after being seated (though he walked by us several times), our appetizers came 40 minutes after ordering, and while the entrees looked like they came with side dishes, the side dishes actually had to be ordered a la carte - which we would have been fine with had the server been knowledgeable enough to talk to us about the menu and guide us through their restaurant experience. Our appetizer that was 15$ was 4 teeny pieces of sautéed mushrooms and 2 pieces of broccoli. We ordered NO alcoholic beverages and our bill was 100$ for one appetizer and two meals + tip, and the restaurant didn’t care to make up to any of the tables how crappy the service, food wait, and overall experience was for everyone.
We were on time to our lunch reservation and were seated promptly. Our server was friendly and pleasant. The restaurant was about half full.
Inexplicably it was an hour and 15 minutes before our first food arrived, although other tables that were seated after us received their meals what seemed like promptly.
When our food did arrive it was poorly cooked- for example when we cut open the cornbread starter that came after the entrees it was raw through most of the middle with yellow raw batter.
Update- management seems really committed to a good experience for their customers - hopefully a unusual experience
It was pretty good. I had the yellow tail tuna which was superb and my friend has steak and fries. The fries could have been seasoned just to up the game. Lastly we finished with coffee and a divine coconut rum chocolate cake.
The food is very overpriced for the quality. We ordered burgers that were $20 each, and they were tasteless. Both the burger and fries tasted as if they'd been pre-cooked and reheated. Ambiance of the restaurant is nice, and the host does everything possible to accomodate getting people seated on a busy night, but the food was awful.
Waited for 20 mins after my reservation time. They have a very bad table by the stairs and bathroom is behind it so people go up the stairs and pass by the table so many times. Waiters were carrying big trays of food and glasses right above my head as it was so narrow. And it was scary. I asked for better table. Tried to tell me there isnt but ended up seating me somewhere better. Food was ookkayy. Turkey was so dry. I barely ate it. Steak was ok. A but tasteless. Not worth for their thanksgiving package.
We went for Thanksgiving dinner. It was busy and they didn’t seem prepared for that level of business. The bar service was unorganized. The food was cold and when we sent it back to be warmed, the meat came back over well done. The waitress was Ok. The manager listened to our concerns which was great.
Thanksgiving at Bluestem is a tradition I won’t give up anytime soon. Outstanding menu, ambiance and service, plus the most welcoming manager I have ever met.
Great service from our host (Adam). Enjoyed the cornbread and filet mignon.
Creative food, fabulous service and a lovely ambiance, all conducive to catching up with old friends while enjoying the food. It was actually difficult to make up our minds so we shared all appetisers and main courses. The pork belly and grilled maitake mushrooms were my favorites. Deserts were very generous in size and the restaurant treated our birthday girl to a separate delicious slice of cake! Overall we had the most wonderful evening!
Great food and service. Good value for money. Nice atmosphere. Definitely recommended!
Service was snippy with no feeling of welcome. The burrata appetizer was both too sweet and too salty - hard to achieve. Fish dish was forgettable. Apple dessert was very strange with croutons that tasted like the came out of a bag. Was pretty disappointed as it was recommended by a foodie friend.
The fried chicken sandwich was very tasty, as were the fries. The waitperson was a bit curt and was pretty determined to up-sell. It was mildly annoying, and stopped short of being truly uncomfortable. We were also left unattended for a long stretch after being seated. OTOH, the waitperson admitted she was unfamiliar with the wines and brought me two tastes so I could select, and I appreciated that.
AMAZING!!!! This was such a wonderful experience - Adam was fabulous getting us a perfect spot to meet and our waiter was phenomenal. I would highly recommend Bluestem Brasserie - the food was fantastic (don't miss the cornbread) - the service was over the top - it was quiet enough for interaction with everyone. Thank You Bluestem Brasserie for making our lunch so special.
Did a surprise trip to San Francisco with my girlfriend over this last weekend. We went to Bluestem for Saturday morning brunch. Service was spot on from arrival. Hostess was great, seated us almost right away even though the restaurant was busy. Our serve was perfect. A gentleman from Rhode Island, help us not only create the perfect meal to start our day but gave us options for the evening and lunch. The manager stopped by to see how we enjoyed our meal and was ultra personable and polite. The only down side is we didn’t go back for Sunday brunch. They set the bar for brunch in San Francisco and we will absolutely be back.
Fries are to die for as well as the fried chicken sandwich and burger! Great place!
Always a pleasure coming here. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, service quick and food/drinks on point.
Wedge salad - watery blue cheese
Focaccia and burrata - burrata syrup too sweet should just stick to freshness of burrata and not take away the taste with a sweet syrup. Focaccia should have been warm
Butchers cut was ok cooked medium rare to order but tasted too grainy and not very buttery. Worse steak we have had in a long time.
Rib eye - the same as butchers cut. The bleu cheese accompanied was very light and lacked chunks of cheese. Salt and vinegar potatoes - potatoes were bland and just salty
Frites that came with butchers cut were mediocre and were a little dry inside
We ordered manhattans and were charged $25 per drink way more than a cocktail bar in the city and seemed to be gouging tourists. The manhattans were good however.
Then there was a wet dog smell in our seating area.
For the cost of entrees $30-$50 for steaks for example the television playing sports and then the pop music seemed out of place.
Perhaps this is what to expect at a restaurant in union square?
I wouldn’t come back to this restaurant which is rare for me to say as most restaurants in SF at this price are great to exceptional.
Unfortunately this was a special night out without kids and pre going to a concert and this was a disappointment
This place has fallen off a cliff. There was NOBODY there on a weekday for lunch. We were the only table. This place used to be so popping. Food was ok, but nothing amazing. Feels like it’s close to closing
We ate at this restaurant twice in one week. The first time for lunch, the second for dinner. I was impressed both times. The reason we went back was for the absolutely fabulous "bite" on the starter menu. It was understated as Chicken liver mousse on toast with seasonal accompaniments. The mousse was creamy, the toast was Challah and the accompaniments were toasted pecans, sliced red grapes and pomegranate seeds with a sprinkling of parsley on top of the mousse. Talk about Heaven on a Plate. Lunch also consisted of a Heirloom tomato and roasted Corn and fresh greens salad for me and the Beef au jus sandwich for my husband. Both were very good and hit the spot. Dinner for me was the house made pasta with fall veggies and goat cheese and for my husband Butcher's Cut Steak Frites. Service and food were excellent.
While the food is definitely not as good as it once was, I still appreciate the ambiance, convenient location, and good service, as well as a noise level that allows for easy conversation. The chicken liver mousse was terrific, but the Kennebec fries (which we remembered as being a standout) were pretty flavorless, and the mussels, chicken sandwich, and pork belly were all just okay.
Very good food. Had mussels, fish, Mac and cheese, soup. Had to pay extra for bread for mussels☹️. Service was slow. Overall it was a good new place to go.
Five colleagues and I had dinner at Bluestem after checking into the Marriott Marquis a few steps away. The vibe in the restaurant was cool Californian, and the food/local brews were fresh and delicious. I had a chicken sandwich with a side salad. The waiter suggested a semillion wine in place of a pinot grigio. The wine was exceptionally good. My colleagues also had an assortment of sandwiches, salads, and drinks. The total bill was $415 with tax and tip for six people.
Always great food, always decent prices, always good service. The food makes this one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco. It’s prices make it perfect for taking business partners or clients to lunch.
Really loved my half roast chicken and tomato salad. Steve was our waiter, and he was 5 star. Gave us plenty of time to order, and was very efficient about filling up our glasses. Thank you to the maître d for his attention too. I'll be back!
Food was good, service was good, but their wine glass pours are less than standard. A glass of wine should be a quarter of a 750 ml bottle. The glass was maybe half of a standard glass pour.
Perfect location for a team dinner for 10. Good entries. Ok apps. Could use a few more selections to share.
Se loved this place. Great location, too
Service, food and ambiance was excellent! We were there for hours and the staff was absolutely great to us. :)
Lovely place for a special weekend brunch. Bring a sweater - the dining room was quite cold.
The hostess was a bit slow. Everything else was great.
Good place with easy access from convention center. Food and drinks were really good!
So great! Food was amazing and the employees were awesome! The manager even brought us a complementary cake and it was so good! Will come back for sure.
Birthday dinner for my husband
