Modern European
Bluehour means different things to different people. In French literature it describes any time of day "of heightened emotion." In Portland it has come to mean "a great place to dine."

As the premier modern restaurant in the Pearl District, Bluehour opened its doors in 2000, with what Gourmet Magazine describes as, "the most sophisticated, contemporary food in town." Guests choose between the elegant dining room or the casual café and bar.

Surprising and delicious describes the Modern Northwest cuisine we create in the Bluehour kitchen each night. The menu is printed daily, so come in and enjoy Chef David Ezelle's seasonally inspired menu.

Excellent service from all employee we encountered. They treat you like a VIP from the moment you step in the door.
The food is creative and very delicious. We tried some new cocktails and very much enjoyed them. We will come as often as possible. Great for pre theater dining before walking to Portland Center Stage.

We celebrated the loveliest Mother's day at Bluehour. The service was outstanding - each person made Mom feel like the most important person in the room - and the food was unparalleled. The ambiance was cheerful, bright, and elegant. It was the perfect choice for our family.

It was my first time at Bluehour and I can't wait to return soon!

Literally had an amazing date with the Fiancé! The pace of the food was outstanding and gave us time to talk and flirt. The server was there and aware but not in any way intrusive. We didn’t feel rushed and gave us enough time to really enjoy the food which was exquisite! Definitely recommend this truly enjoyable dining experience.

One of the best and QUIETEST restaurants in Portland. The atmosphere was one of gratitude--gratitude expressed by the restaurant workers who treated me and my friends extremely well (always careful, for example, not to interrupt our conversation by asking or bringing us something), and gratitude from the four of us celebrating my birthday on a recent Sunday evening. Instead of canned music found almost everywhere else--and always too LOUD--there was a guitarist (no mic or speakers) playing good, mostly classical music--subtle but beautiful. And not at all intrusive. I look forward to going back to Bluehour again and again.

Exquisite at all levels! From the minute we walked in to the moment we left the staff was attentive, friendly and for sure made the food stand out even more as they presented it and framed it perfectly! I’ve been there before for business and personal events and knew the food was simply perfect, but this was the first time I went as a family and we will for sure be there more often as a family. Thank you!

Went to Bluehour for a date night. Was perfect. Food great, server knew the menu and winepairings and made the evening great. They were busy but tables are spaced so it was quiet and intimate.

Slow service. Forgot to deliver one meal. Waited forever to order. Waited forever for the bill. We were hoping things had changed but it has been this way for a long time. I doubt we will be coming back anytime soon.

This was my first visit and I was quite impressed. The brunch was yummy and reasonably priced. We had a table for 8 and could converse easily as it was sooo quiet. Service was cheerful and efficient and the $2 mimosas were a hit. The restrooms could use better lighting however. We will return

Visiting Portland for first time and found Bluehour walking around the Pearl District. It was my birthday and the sign on the sidewalk said live jazz. I peaked in the restaurant it looked great. Checked out online review and booked dinner. From the second we arrived on a rainy Portland night until we left when the music ended, everything was perfect, the food, ambience, service, etc. the salad was not over-dressed and super fresh. The oysters were great. I had had the best swordfish I ever tasted. The wine was great. My only complaint is $31 for Oban, which was similarly over priced everywhere else we have been in Portland.

Food and service was outstanding! Only negative comment is that price of cocktails is really too high. I wanted to order one but did not because of the price.....a ’blood and sand’ is one of my favorite cocktails, but not at $22 a pop! Others were priced less than that but were still pricey. Wine by the glass was more acceptable in terms of both price and quality.

This was our second visit to Blue Hour and it did not disappoint. Impeccable service from same waitress as last time, and great food with wonderful plate appeal. The hostess this time did not take out coats, but then again, it was not raining when we arrived. Wish it wasn't so spendy, but I guess you get what you pay for.

I had a business meeting setup for the evening. I called the night before to make sure the hostess knew my dinner plans and I had the right table. They failed to tell me that there was going to be a Live DJ and Drag show the night of our dinner. It was extremely hard to have conversations at our table and I wish we would of never came there that night. We should of been made aware when we made reservations.

I dined during March special $33 menu month. Both entrees were delicious but small. And my dessert was the smallest scoop of sorbet ever with apologies from the waiter and also an apology for the absent cookie (they ran out and offered no substitute).

My wife and I chose Bluehour because we'd heard about it. Frankly, we were disappointed. I don't mind paying top dollar when we talk about the meal for days, but we won't. Although comfortable with very pleasant and helpful staff, there simply wasn't the attention to detail that expensive places must have. I'd been fasting so I ordered an appetizer: seared scallops $24 had two medium-sized scallops. They were delicious, but the dish is preposterously overpriced. Server brought beautiful gougères, which we declined because we're both gluten-free, but there was no effort to offer/bring anything else. The server was very nice and was "present" when at our table, but he checked back with us at odd times with long gaps in between. The wait between salad and main course was about one-half hour (5:30 reservation). The salad was a large handful of arugula, whose principal feature was to have the stems aligned vertically, with several radish slices and a mediocre vinaigrette. I'd make better ones at home with a blindfold. The check was incorrect, charging more than the price for the bottle, which was graciously corrected. I want to like this place, but won't be rushing back.

On a more positive note, my roasted beet salad had ornate presentation, including super-thin brittle hibiscus crisps that were sublime. A nice wine list with high-quality wines.

Blue Hour is consistent... service was exceptional, classy and attentive. Food was as expected, which is all I can ask for at Blue Hour since all of my memories are positive! I think that's why they're still around, still relatively crowded and respected... they deliver what is expected of a stylish, swank eatery and rarely, if ever disappoint. Haven't been in a while? Go and see for yourself... you won't be disappointed.
