Bluehour means different things to different people. In French literature it describes any time of day "of heightened emotion." In Portland it has come to mean "a great place to dine."
As the premier modern restaurant in the Pearl District, Bluehour opened its doors in 2000, with what Gourmet Magazine describes as, "the most sophisticated, contemporary food in town." Guests choose between the elegant dining room or the casual café and bar.
Surprising and delicious describes the Modern Northwest cuisine we create in the Bluehour kitchen each night. The menu is printed daily, so come in and enjoy Chef Chris Carriker's seasonally inspired menu.

Bluehour Ratings and Reviews
Bluehour is usually great, however tonight they were off their game. Our server was too busy with other tables to focus on helping us. People around us were getting things before we were, yet they arrived 30 min after we did. Tonight was our anniversary and dining at Bluehour was subpar.
Ambience was great and service was decent, but a bit inconsistent near the end. My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time. 2 problems with the night, the tables were so wobbly and moved so much i couldn't even cut my lamb without making the table vibrate. We ended up with the table about 3 feet from where we where seated at the beginning of the night, i even saw other people complaining about the tables to there dates, also, they could have calmed down with the amount of salt they put on our food. It's like they added the whole Pacific ocean. Obviously I'm over exaggerating, but still, get new tables, chairs, and less salt next time. I'll still going to come back though.
We went here on Valentines Day, so it was really busy. The live music was beautiful and the presentation of the food was gorgeous. There was a set menu, which we sort of expected, but we didn’t think the food was worth the price per head that we paid. The service wasn’t great, as we waited to have water refilled or to even get the check for quite some time. Overall not bad. I’d want to go here on a regular night.
Went for an earlier Valentine's date night. Everything we had was amazing! Started with the scallops as an appetizer then went with the pork loin and duck for our entrees. Finished up with the toffee sundae. Really hard to choose what my favorite dish was because they were all delicious but I've got a soft spot in my belly for duck so I'll choose that as my favorite.
We had dinner at this restaurant on Saturday, February 10. We had reservations at 6:15 pm. Our party of 5 was there to celebrate the 80th birthday of my aunt.
We were seated in the middle of the room. Our waiter, arrived and took our drink orders. He later came back for our dinner orders. Our salads came out fine. However, one leaf of the round table nearly dropped my wife's burrata cheese appetizer on her lap. The bus person adjusted the leaf to keep from dropping. Our salad plates sat on the table for many minutes while bussers, our waiter and other staff passed by. When our meals came, the salad plates were still on the table. It was an awkward moment while the delivery people tried to move salad plates and flatware out of the way to make room on the table. We had to help the staff make room and get settled. On top of the the challenges with placing the dinners, there was no silverware, it had been taken off with the salad plates. The waiter took a minute or two to calculate how many place settings needed to be replaced (all five of them). He finally returned with the place settings and we could start to eat. My wife had ordered the bavette steak "medium" but it came out very much medium rare, she could not eat half of her dinner. We had hoped to send it back to finish it's cooking, but the waiter did not return to check in. When it came time for the check, he brought out a check for items that we did not order. It was not the correct check. When we pointed it out, he promised that the incorrect check would not be processed. Upon return to Boise, I sent a message to the Owner. He responded that evening that he was "shocked" and would have a meeting with his managers the next day (Monday) and get back to me. It has now been 3 business days since his message and no response. Having traveled to Portland for a special dinner, we had been looking forward to our evening. Instead, it was just OK, with several frustrating events.
Wonderful as always.
I have a small appetite and always order an appetizer as my entree or split something with my husband, who also gets a salad.
Most places are condescending when taking my order - asking if I'm sure I don't want anything else - then act like I'm a waste of energy. Blue Hour's waiters always manage my small order with grace and professionalism. Thank you.
Bluehour is a long-time favorite. We had the usual delicious meal and excellent service in the beautiful Bluehour space. Our server was friendly and efficient, as was his assistant. The oysters, the radicchio salad, the duck, and the ribeye were standouts. Our group was going to a play at the Armory, and we got out in plenty of time without feeling rushed or anxious.
Appetizers were good along with the salad and wine selection. Unfortunately, the steak was terrible. Extremely chewy and hard to eat. The server was extremely understanding and offered to replace the meal free of charge. Need some other dinner selections on the menu to choose from.
I brought a group of seven and the service was impeccable. The design and layout were also pleasant, providing a felicitous venue for my birthday celebration. Unfortunately, out of my entire party, only I was extremely happy with my food! Since it was my birthday, that is all that mattered. But despite pricy meals, I am a bit miffed my friends did not enjoy their meals as much as I did.
That said, were were treated with a large round of appetizers courtesy of the chef, and I got a free slice of cake. And the drinks were all great for everyone.
I think its a perfect spot if you know you're going to enjoy what you order, but not the best price range to be risking your enjoyment.
Excellent overall. Great service, great food, wonderful ambience, outstanding music(Bobby Torres)!! Would recommend BlueHour for any occasion. I made several changes in my original reservation with nary a problem. Very friendly and knowledgeable service staff! The food was creative and delicious and well worth the price!
I had a great dinner there a couple days after Christmas. Fantastic wine by the glass options. The seafood Fettuccine was to die for. Big chunks of crab meat in a lobster sauce. It was certainly rich, but amazing flavor. The server we had was also outstanding. I will certainly return. Amazing place.
Lovely atmosphere and excellent food, but some of the worst service I’ve received in a very long time. Over 10 minutes before we saw a server (had to get up to ask for one) and then another 10 minutes to get drinks (one soda, one cocktail). We sat at 10am and it was 10:22 before we had drinks on the table. Food came out in a timely manner (our appetizer arrived before the drinks!) Then my husband requested a soda refill when our entrees arrived - it was delivered after we were done eating and ready to leave. And then we had to chase down our sever to pay the bill. I think it’s probably normally a great restaurant, but the poor service was completely distracting.
We felt overlooked and not cared for, during our meal. Birthday celebration comments in our reservation and to our waiter directly were totally ignored. The food was good. Just good. Value? I don't know, two bay scallops with bits of pork belly - $21? The bavette - cooked as ordered, but chewy and the accompaniments were over salted. I've had better at El Goucho for the same price and a lot more attention. The duck was great and salty, but you'd expect that with confit. Caesar salad - meh. All in all, wouldn't recommend and probably won't return.
I don't frequent fancy restaurants in the Pearl my mother and I were going to a Christmas concert at a local church put on by the university of Portland and decided to have dinner Blue Hour proved to be the right choice elegant and very festive for the holidays it made for a wonderful evening Keep up the good work
Beautiful location, decor, ambiance. However, i was not impressed with the food. We ordered the charred octopus and was delivered cold. We had the tuna for main course and was lacking flavor, presentation, and was also cold in the middle. Excellent service though. We did not complain. I just dont think we will return.
Great food but service was subpar. Didn't get our water filled (ever) throughout our meal (not from hostess, first or second waiter).Took a while for our dinner plates to be cleared. Expected better service given reviews on dining experience. Save the money and go to Little Big Burger then a cool lounge instead.
My husband and I decided to have dinner at Bluehour because we've heard it was a lovely restaurant with good food. We were not disappointed. The food was excellent from the salads to the rolls to the main courses. The red wine we ordered was served at the perfect temperature. While the dessert menu did not entice us that was to our benefit! We will reserve a table, again, at Bluehour.
Blue Hour was fantastic! Only one of us had eaten there and it had been many years. All of us were impressed with all of the food, and especially dessert! The food is creative and delicious! Drink menu was great and the service was flawless!! We will be back soon!
Thanksgiving dinner. Three course prix fixe menu with several choices for each course. Food was well-prepared, albeit very salty. Server did a good job describing the dishes and the sommelier and I had a nice chat about the wine we brought. This place could easily get 5 stars from me, if the salt was more under control.
Decided on Blue Hour for Thanksgiving. Fixed price three course dinner . Best dish was the soup. Entree was luke warm and meat was chewy. Not at all what I expected for the cost. Not really worth the price. Although wait staff was courteous and ambience was nice. Food just OK.
