About Bluehour

Bluehour means different things to different people. In French literature it describes any time of day "of heightened emotion." In Portland it has come to mean "a great place to dine."

As the premier modern restaurant in the Pearl District, Bluehour opened its doors in 2000, with what Gourmet Magazine describes as, "the most sophisticated, contemporary food in town." Guests choose between the elegant dining room or the casual café and bar.

Surprising and delicious describes the Modern Northwest cuisine we create in the Bluehour kitchen each night. The menu is printed daily, so come in and enjoy Chef Chris Carriker's seasonally inspired menu.

Great menu, and solid meal. Lovely presentation, but food was not particularly memorable.

Beautiful location, decor, ambiance. However, i was not impressed with the food. We ordered the charred octopus and was delivered cold. We had the tuna for main course and was lacking flavor, presentation, and was also cold in the middle. Excellent service though. We did not complain. I just dont think we will return.

The restaurant is beautiful and the staff were very friendly. We had mixed reviews about the food from our table. The sole and steak were great but the vegetarian food (risotto, butternut squash soup, Brussels sprouts) was very bland.

Great food but service was subpar. Didn't get our water filled (ever) throughout our meal (not from hostess, first or second waiter).Took a while for our dinner plates to be cleared. Expected better service given reviews on dining experience. Save the money and go to Little Big Burger then a cool lounge instead.

Great venue, location, atmosphere and service! The food was good, nothing to shout about but there wasn’t anything wrong with it. For that style of fine dining experience I’ve had better!

My husband and I decided to have dinner at Bluehour because we've heard it was a lovely restaurant with good food. We were not disappointed. The food was excellent from the salads to the rolls to the main courses. The red wine we ordered was served at the perfect temperature. While the dessert menu did not entice us that was to our benefit! We will reserve a table, again, at Bluehour.

Blue Hour was fantastic! Only one of us had eaten there and it had been many years. All of us were impressed with all of the food, and especially dessert! The food is creative and delicious! Drink menu was great and the service was flawless!! We will be back soon!

Thanksgiving dinner. Three course prix fixe menu with several choices for each course. Food was well-prepared, albeit very salty. Server did a good job describing the dishes and the sommelier and I had a nice chat about the wine we brought. This place could easily get 5 stars from me, if the salt was more under control.

Decided on Blue Hour for Thanksgiving. Fixed price three course dinner . Best dish was the soup. Entree was luke warm and meat was chewy. Not at all what I expected for the cost. Not really worth the price. Although wait staff was courteous and ambience was nice. Food just OK.

We had a good Thanksgiving dinner with a friend from outside the U.S. The wine list is especially good, and the food was well-prepared. However, I was a little disappointed that the turkey dinner was not more traditional. There were no mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, or traditional stuffing, and a savory bread pudding is not a proper substitute for stuffing on Thanksgiving. I am also not fond of the dark meat confit--it had a bit of a "made in advance for convenient serving" feel to it.

Fantastic Thanksgiving Dinner! Had never been here before and booked a reservation after reviewing the menu. Definitely one of the tastier meals we've had in Portland. A bit pricey due to the prefix menu but worth every penny.

The service was fantastic. I went with two friends on a Monday night, so things were a bit quiet. I love the ambience of this restaurant, and have been there on a busy Saturday night as well. We had an amuse bouche to start, then a massive round of oysters, the burratta appetizer too. The cocktails were wonderful. I'll be back next time I am in Portland.

The occasion was date night and we had not been to Bluehour for years. Many positives with this restaurant, the first of which was the delightful hostess who greeted us. If a first impression is important, she is a great first impression—stylish, impeccably groomed, striking appearance and a lovely personality. We were immediately seated at a very nice table and enjoyed Bluehour's great Martini's. One interesting thing we noticed was that the restaurant and bar were full with everyone seeming to be talking, yet the room was quiet and we could easily have conversation at our table—a rare treat in crowded restaurants. The only negative was that our food, while very tasty, was served rather cold. We will definitely return soon.

I’m probably not the best person for this review because I like the simple things at a fair price. If that is what you like then this is not the place for you.
When dinner cost more then a two night stay at a hotel, your charging to much in my opinion. Dinner for a party of three consisted of, three salads, three dinners, two desserts, and 4 drinks.
With tip the bill was around $260+
Everything was good, just not $260+ good.

Nice ambiance, great cocktails, and good food at reasonable prices. I only have 2 issues:

1. We listed the reservation as a special occasion, but there was never acknowledgement of the restaurant as such. I'm curious why we enter this data if there is no action taken upon it.

2. Our waiter was very solicitous and deferential to one male member of our party, but seemed to ignore the women. I expected to receive the same attention as the man at the head of the table, especially since it was my birthday.

The restaurant was perfect except I had noted in our Open Table reservation that we were celebrating my husband's birthday. When we about to be seated, I made sure and mentioned it again to the hostess and she said that she knew that and had alerted our server, however, he never made any mention of it. That was a big disappointment especially since other reviews had specifically talked about celebrating a birthday at Blue Hour and how the restaurant made the birthday person feel very special.. Fortunately, everything else was great..the food was superb and love the quiet atmosphere. We will return.

Bluehour is always a nice meal. The service was attentive and friendly. We had two fish dishes, salmon and halibut, they were cooked nicely and accompanied with good sides. We also had the risotto which was okay, but a dash thick, but the mushrooms were nice. The cocktails were great - always a good cocktail here.

We went there for my husband’s birthday. The menus had a personalized happy birthday note at the top which started the dinner with a very pleasant surprise. They offered us champagne on the house to start the celebration and the waiter did a really good job! They even gave us an extra free dessert and made sure to bring it in with a candle to finish off the celebration! All in all it was such a good experience!!!

Haven't been to Bluehour for quite a while. The food was excellent as is the ambience! Drinks are expensive and the overall value is average. It's certainly not a bargain! It's a good place for expense account types, and perhaps special occasions, but for us it won't be an everyday experience...

One of the quieter, dining experiences we have had in a while, especially in the Pearl.
having just returned from France where we not only loved the food but we especially noticed THE SERVICE. Not even Blue Hour can boast great service especially the night we were there. It's the small things that count. Overall a B- and disappointed.

Food presentation was good but it had no flavor. Salmon was way undercooked. If we wanted sushi we would have went to a sushi place. Salads were flavorless and starters lacked any creativity. Our waiter acted like he was better than us. We dine out a lot and like to try new places, we will never go here again.

The manager is with class and you can feel it that you received the best service of all! Hostess was lovely and the chef offered us complimentary appetizers which are unique in service, flavor and design. Food is very good, tasty and well prepared. Did not feel any up sell pressure or treated differently because we ordered less (light dinner type people).
Overall excellent experience!

The waiter was shameless in eyeballing my wife and making off putting, flirtatious comments. Maybe that was his way of trying to get a better tip, but it was super creepy. No one wants to make a scene in a restaurant, so I decided just let it go instead of getting crazy. The table seating is too close. You can hear everyone else's conversation word for word. The food was so so at best. Steak was undercooked. Still cold on inside.
