Bluehour means different things to different people. In French literature it describes any time of day "of heightened emotion." In Portland it has come to mean "a great place to dine."

As the premier modern restaurant in the Pearl District, Bluehour opened its doors in 2000, with what Gourmet Magazine describes as, "the most sophisticated, contemporary food in town." Guests choose between the elegant dining room or the casual café and bar.

Surprising and delicious describes the Modern Northwest cuisine we create in the Bluehour kitchen each night. The menu is printed daily, so come in and enjoy Chef Chris Carriker's seasonally inspired menu.

Some dishes were a bit over salted. What has happened to Western friendliness? Staff was efficient but we felt we were more of a nuisance than customers. Food had some flare but lacked real wow factor. Too bad, we had high expectations base on reputation.

We had plans for Easter Brunch here and the staff was OUTSTANDING!! My son got sick and the staff rushed to help me clean him up, never did they make me feel awkward and instead they sincerely cared how my son was feeling. After I cleaned both my son and I up, my grandparents stayed and had a lovely brunch with my daughter. They brought home my meal and as always the food was incredible. We’ve come before, for the Santa Brunch, and my children love coming there to enjoy their “fancy” meal in downtown Portland. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Bluehour to anyone!!!!!!

Easter brunch - $33/person for three courses. Seemed expensive for a veggie omelet, fruit, and ice cream - and ice cream was an odd option for breakfast "dessert." Server was loquacious, but not attentive to coffee service and other basics.

It was great to be able to take our time and enjoy a leisurely, multi course dinner, but two hours between being seated and receiving our main course was a little much. We didn’t receive an explanation or apology for the long wait.

The Portland Dining Month menu blew us away! From the amuse bouche to the absolutely stunningly delicious (I will be dreaming about it for the next decade) hazelnut chocolate torte in the smudge of caramel, we savored every bite! The seared rockfish in a smoked broth with pork belly and beans (can't recall what kind) was incredibly savory and light. YUM.

The service was professional and attentive. All of the waitstaff was knowledgeable about the plates and ingredients. Fred Armstrong is an excellent sommelier who guided us to a bottle of wine within our price point that worked very well with our different entries.
The octopus appetizer was cooked perfectly and very tender. The cauliflower soup showcased excellent technique and restraint. Both bavette steak and petrale sole were great.

Uneven service. Asked for bread. Promised bread a couple times, but it never arrived. We wanted to split a steak, but no share plate brought. At end of evening we wanted to split the check. Checks arrived, one check for 50% and the 2nd check was for 100% of the bill...

Went to Bluehour for the 3 course meal for $33 on a Tuesday early evening and was very impressed with the food. Looks like a place that could be very vibrant on weekends. Not a lot of diners on Tuesday evening. Service was very good and attentive. Would definitely go back another time and try out more of their menu.

Excellent Portland Dining Month experience recently but other items on the menu did not disappoint. Sit in the bar if you want to order burgers and snacks- equally good food! Loved the ambiance and noise was surprisingly low for the size.

My fiancée and I had a lovely dinner that was prepared and provided with the utmost of care. The celery soup was her favorite part of the meal- she described it as "able to convert celery-haters"- and I really enjoyed the Parisian gnocchi, especially the way that the apple and mushrooms combined to create a savory, well-balanced accompaniment to the captivatingly soft gnocchi.

Bluehour wasn't particularly busy while we were there but sadly the service was not good.
We did get our first course without waiting too long. Then we were accidentally brought a dessert before the main course. We then waited and waited and waited until our dinner reached us. The food was good but the wait was so lengthy it took the wind out of the meal.

The ambiance was nicer at the onset of the dinner when the natural light filled the room. As the sun set, the room darkened and it felt too dark by the time we ate.

Although my glass of wine was on the house as an apology, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant because there are too many other outstanding choices in Portland.

Went here to celebrate a birthday during Portland Dining Month. Drinks were fantastic, some of the food was too salty, and service was on the slow slide. Overall not a bad experience, but I wasn't blown away either.

Excellent food. I had the Portland Restaurant Week menu, which was excellent. I did not like either of the desserts offered; however, the rest of the meal was excellent.
Would definitely go there again.

We continue to like this place a lot. Our waitperson was terrific and the food was fantastic. Love the way this place can transform itself by opening or closing draperies that separate sections. When we were there, the entire place was open and for the first time, I realized how big the dining area is. Quite beautiful as well.

I wanted a more upscale dinner for my daughters 45th. The restaurant is beautiful. We were a party of 10 and they accommodated us with ease.

The waiter was nice enough, just not attentive enough. There were long periods where he was not viable to us.

The cocktails were wonderful. There were 4 of us that ordered the ribeye steak and 3 of the 4 had more than half there steak left. Very tough and not cooked properly. My grandson had the pork and he said it was to tough as well.

They started playing music about an hour before we left. It was extremely loud where it made me want to run out of the restaurant. We were shouting across the table to talk with each other.

All in all I will not be returning.

I've had many great dinners at Bluehour and they never fail to impress with both food and service. It's a go to restaurant for both business and personal dinners. Our service was outstanding and the menu is always fresh and interesting, never boring. Can't miss when you dine at Bluehour.

Food - Delicious! 10/10

Service - Great, we loved how the chef came out for certain dishes. It made it personable. But our waiter had a grumpy face, nice guy but just kind of ruined the vibe. 8/10.

Ambiance - It was nice, we had asked for it to be more secluded since we wanted some privacy to talk. But it didn’t seem like the acknowledge that request. 8/10.

Noise - It was manageable 8/10.

Total = 34/40 - 85% B

Overall, we would consider coming back.

This place is always very good, and quiet enough to have a conversation. Hannah, our server, actually remembered our exact drinks from a dinner a month earlier. Amazing! The service here is always excellent, and this just cemented that impression.
