As the premier modern restaurant in the Pearl District, Bluehour opened its doors in 2000, with what Gourmet Magazine describes as, "the most sophisticated, contemporary food in town." Guests choose between the elegant dining room or the casual café and bar.
Surprising and delicious describes the Modern Northwest cuisine we create in the Bluehour kitchen each night. The menu is printed daily, so come in and enjoy Chef David Ezelle's seasonally inspired menu.

Brunch was amazing and we were happy with the choices and the quality of the food and service! Well done 👏👏👏😍👏
Food was delicious. Service great. Live music on Sat night
Recently visited Bluehour for an anniversary dinner. We arrived before our reservation and they were able to seat us right away. It was a nice evening so we chose an outside table near the door that allowed us to still hear the live music on Sunday evening. I ordered the pork loin with spaetzle. I liked the overall presentation and textures, but it was a little too salty for my taste. My husband had the burger and seemed to enjoy it, but he also commented that the fries were over salted. We also ordered a Caesar salad and the garlic was almost overpowering. We enjoyed our cocktails and the wine list is extensive. I would be willing to give Bluehour another chance, but will so many great options in Portland, it might be a while before we make it back.
Blue hour has to be my favorite restaurant, always on point! On this occasion we had dinner for four in the dining room instead of their casual bar, staff were so pleasant, knowledgeable, and anticipated our every need with the casual sophistication of a professional wait staff who cares about your experience. The food was outstanding, I began with Blistered Padron Peppers with a delicious aioli then on to perfectly cooked chicken with chard and bacon on a bed of potato puree. All four at our table were delighted with their meal. Live music began at 9am but we unfortunately had to leave. Would definitely recommend Blue Hour for a quick bite or a full dinner.
Classic Portland gem. The ambience is perfect. Great menu. Beautiful flavors and service. Favorite Caesar salad in town. Would always recommend.
I very much resent being assessed a "labor SVC" fee. This is nothing more than a scam since it is not paid directly to the staff. Your labor cost should be reflected in your product pricing, not as a separate charge! I will return when you stop this offensive and insulting practice.
Our small service fee goes directly to supporting yearly state mandated increases in wages as well as all state employer mandates. Many restaurants do this rather than raising prices yearly. Yes, we could do the latter, but the result is the same. We understand that it is not always easily understood by patrons. Guests are paying no more or less in either practice. We respect you have an opinion on this, but can assure you the practice is fair and to the benefit of our employees. Thank you.
Fabulous food and service!
The prime rib was the best I’ve ever had. All the food we ordered was a really good including the beet salad. Our waitress gave us exceptional service. I’m actually craving that prime rib and can’t wait to go back again.
Hands down the best Halibut I have tasted.
The restaurant is more upscale, if you want to sit at the restaurant part, or more casual, if you choose to sit on the bar side, or outside on the patio. We sat in the restaurant part. They cut up real maple tree branches as decor, which I found quite interesting. We ordered the clams, octopus for appes, and duck and halibut for entrees. The server gave us some free amuse bouche as well as bread to start. The clams were good, they added some chives, which gives off a good aroma. The octopus itself was disappointing, as it was mushy. However, the bed of chickpeas that came with it, was amazing. It almost made me forget about the octopus, which was kind of sad, as octopus should have been the star of the dish. The duck and halibut both had a great sear, and cooked to perfection. However, just a tad too salty right at the top, but otherwise, perfect sear for both protein, and the halibut is cooked to an absolute perfection. I would definitely come back to this restaurant.
Bluehour was a last minute decision when the wait was way to excessive at MEC. Once inside we quickly realized this should have been our first choice.
This is an elegant tasteful restaurant that will remind anyone of what the words “Fine Dining” once stood for. If you are not interested in a sophisticated
yet excellent tasting menu then this is not your place. But if you want delicious options prepared and served with great care than Bluehour should be
next on your list for an evening out.
Outstanding service, Excellent food !
Very wowed. Bluehour is that thing than doesn't exist anymore. That neuvo-upscale, Sex and the City, Pink Martini vibe. I was shocked at it's chilled out atmosphere because not only was it a nice visit due to service and ambiance, the food here is delicious. I was not a huge fan of my first drink, but it was swapped out at no charge quickly and what came after was perfect.
Stevie couldn't have been better. She was awesome, graceful and immediately greeted us at the door as we checked in. The music was great. Loved the Latin and especially the dancers. Nice to see that. I spent many evening at Blue hour when you first opened having steak tartare during happy hour at the bar. Definitely missed it. The salmon dish was undercooked enough that I had to send it back. My guy gave me a bite of his fish and it was a bit overcooked and dry. Also the chair was so slippery that I finally put my purse under my kneesso I could sit back without sliding forward. I tell you these things in good spirit and hope to experience better cooking next time because I do love Blue Hour. :) Susan
Great! Loved everything once again :) Food was scrumptious, timing was really on, Mom was happy for her B-day. Always come back!
Bluehours food and drinks were excellent. My and my now fiance went there on our three year anniversary. I messaged the restaurant prior to going and let them know that it was our anniversary and they gave us complimentary champagne, and appetizer and dessert for sharing our special night with them. But what really made the night special was our outstanding service from Stevie. She was truly amazing, was knowledgeable and gave perfect recommendations. I cannot say enough good things about Stevie, she made the night so very special.
The whole dining experience was fabulous. The food, the service, the ambiance, the presentation it was all top notch.
The brunch had no punch. :( We thought it would have exciting offerings but it was blah. Price was ok.
Great Sunday night dinner spot Would do it again!
Can’t go wrong with $2 mimosas! I had the classic Benedict was very good but not enough hollandaise sauce, my mom got the corned beef hash and it was the best we had ever had!!
This restaurant is among the best there is. Excellent in every way.
YOWZA! Another great night with the folks here. Brought my Mother in for her birthday and it was magical. Not too crazy but busy vibe, so we got a lot of attention. Sitting in the middle of the restaurant, we got a chance to see everyone work, including the kitchen behind us which is open and fun to watch while visiting. Music here is jazzy, smooth, quieter but good for convo. Can't speak for everyone but I enjoyed the Ribeye with the truffle butter. Holy cow. Very good. Mom ordered a salad and Swordfish and (while usually a curmudgeony type of eater) really enjoyed it. They brought a dessert to the table and it really shined.
Sat on the patio with some friends and received great service eating for Happy Hour. Really loved the selections on the cheese board and loooooved the charred octopus. Nice wine list and bartenders who love to suggest if you go in and say hello. Will be back!
I hadn't been to Bluehour for several years but was very happy that I chose it for a business client dinner. The service was impeccable. The noise level was quiet enough to have meaningful conversations across our table of 7 people. The food was excellent. Everyone raved about their choice of entrée, including the duck, the salmon, a steak, halibut, and the chicken. The desserts were creative and delicious. I will bring clients here again in the future and will come with my wife as well.
Enjoyed a Sunday Brunch date with the gals. Great location, good food, excellent service!
Service was excellent. The food was average for a high price and lacked creativity.
Hello Anonymous, Happy you found the service "excellent." You visited us on Independence Day! This day was anticipated to be slower given the holiday but it wasn't. It may be that the volume of business this day caught the kitchen off guard and the dishes didn't dazzle as they typically do. We wish you had a better food experience! We hope you will give us another try in the future. Thank you for visiting us.
This place was decent but definitely needs a redo. The service was lovely and the location is ideal. The food wasn’t bad but just seemed a little outdated.
Anonymous, We're all ears. Please give us your suggestions. How would you makeover Bluehour? Sounds like service, location and food were to your liking. Interested to hear how we could have made this a better experience for you. Hope to see you again. Thank you.
Bluehour was wonderful! Everything was fantastic. Creative food (all courses!), attentive wait staff, fabulous cocktails. We went there for a date before a show; it's highly recommended. Next time we come back, we'll try an outside table; fun people watching!
Wonderful service, greeat food, super cool bar. A very retro vibe creates a perfect "grown up" evening complete with jazz music. Highly reccomend.
Blue Hours time has come and gone, I’m afraid. They ditched Valet which means driving around endlessly in hopes of finding a parking spot, which also means proper footwear is needed for coming and going.
Long gone are the days of dress up when forced to walk blocks and blocks for dinner.
The atmosphere is pleasant enough . We were there on a Friday with maybe six other tables. Empty bar too.
Wasn’t that long ago it was three deep at the bar waiting for a table.
The food was meh. Nothing special. Two risottos and two steaks. Both steaks were prepared incorrectly.
Overall, it was a great run while it lasted. For us to make the trip to DT/ The Pearl, it’s 45 minute drive or longer, this place didn’t make it worth it.
So little about that area makes it worth it any more.
Hi CHUNKY, Thank you for your feedback. No one has valet in the neighborhood. The parking lots have not proven secure for cars except the Whole Foods lot which is 1 block from the restaurant. This lot is available to all. It is a safe and short walk to us. Street parking is an option and often available. As far as when you visited, there is always a lull at the beginning of summer and especially the following, fourth of July week. I will speak to the chef about your other comments. All the Best
Unfortunately, there were kitchen issues the evening we were there, and the waitstaff did not do a good job keeping us apprised as to the reality of the situation; and in fact avoided us. Had they kept us apprised we could have easily changed orders, etc., but no.
We arrived at 6 pm, immediately notified staff that we were seeing Storm Large at 7:30 pm and needed to be out the door by 7:10 pm and had placed our starter and entree orders by 6:15 pm. All good. No problem.
Not quite. Starters were fabulous and arrived quickly (6:30 pm). At 7pm, we were advised our entrees would be out momentarily. At 7:10 pm we needed to head to PCS for the show; leaving our friends to collect our entrees "to go" as they were packing them up for us. Our friends arrived at the theater at 7:20 pm reporting that there were no meals "to go" or otherwise, for us or a number of other hungry patrons also headed to see Portland's brilliant star, Storm Large in "Crazy Enough." The performance was so brilliant, we totally forgot that Bluehour blew it that night. Longtime PCS season subscribers, sorry Bluehour, you're off our list for pre-play dining with friends.
Dear Jeff, We apologize that yours and everyone's evening was affected by the power outage we experienced. Getting people in and out on their way to the theater is something we do all the time. The outage was not in our control. We continued to experience issues related to it once power was restored. These made estimates to get us and our guests back on desired timelines unreliable. We are truly sorry. It was out of our control. We hope to see you again.
We had recently married and they made us feel special.
Congratulations on your recent marriage! We treasure sharing these special moments with our guests and hope to see you again soon! -BCR
Wonderful service, wonderful food, wonderful ambiance! We enjoyed Bluehour so much we returned the next night for dinner.
Thank you Madcap1! We will be here for you, 7 days a week! ;) -BCR
Excellent service from a very polished server. The amuse-bouche was delicious, as were the scallops. The beet salad and Caesar salad were also excellent. One of our party had English pea soup but said it was very bland. It was an altogether good evening.
Alison, Thank you for the kind words and critique! We are always happy to hear a service member impressed quality upon our guests. We will certainly look into your feedback on the soup and hope to see you again in the future! -BCR
Superb food, friendly personnel but sloooooow between courses---way to slow
Fabulous jazz and brunch on Father’s Day! Happy and helpful wait staff made our brunch extra-special. We put Blue Hour on our favorites list!
Father’s Day jazz brunch was wonderful and made for a very special occasion
Wonderful for a special dining celebratory occasion. Expensive, but worth it if you want a memorable evening.
The service and food is impeccable. Every time we eat at Blue Hour we comment that we are certain they would be a candidate for Michelin recognition! Blue Hour is definitely a must when looking for Portland fine dining!
Bluehour is modern and approachable fine dining. The service was excellent. Every need was met, but they didn't hover around our table. The food was delicious and the presentation was beautiful. Every dish I ate was masterfully balanced and a true work of art.
Kim, Thank you for your kind review. We pride ourselves on bringing the best to our guests and are absolutely grateful for positive feedback. We look forward to sharing memories with you again in the future. -BCR
Our ribeye steaks were delicious. In fact, everything was delicious. Our waiter, Mark, was excellent. We can not recommend the restaurant enough.
We have been to Blue Hour many times and wanted a quiet place to visit with friends who have been gone for six months. This was perfect. The wines were excellent, the food was good and simple that solved our demand for fresh tasty fare. We had Caesar salads along with mixed greens and fish and chicken which were prepared simply and tasty. We also had coffee which was excellent. We will go back again and again. They also have music nightly after 9 PM for which we stayed a bit and enjoyed.
