As the premier modern restaurant in the Pearl District, Bluehour opened its doors in 2000, with what Gourmet Magazine describes as, "the most sophisticated, contemporary food in town." Guests choose between the elegant dining room or the casual café and bar.
Surprising and delicious describes the Modern Northwest cuisine we create in the Bluehour kitchen each night. The menu is printed daily, so come in and enjoy Chef David Ezelle's seasonally inspired menu.

I found a rubber band in my broccoli and the bavette steak wasn't as tender as I like for steak. The staff didn't charge me for my meal, but my experience of the restaurant's food is memorable for all of the wrong reasons. The setting and service were lovely.
We made a reservation for our anniversary. We showed up early, but the hostess was still able to seat us right away. She was very professional and lovely. Our server, however, was not. He seemed upset to have us as guests from the beginning, probably because we are young and this is a fine dining establishment. He attempted to remain professional, but his disappointment was apparent. He spent much more time at his other tables. Unfortunately for him, we both noticed these things, because we have both been in the service industry for 10+ years. He did not ask if we had been in before or if we were celebrating anything, which was in the notes of our reservation if he had cared to look. I ordered a cocktail which I had had before at other places, but I did not like their version. I didn't want to complain, so I just had it off to the side. I fully intended on paying for it. When he realized I wasn't drinking it, he smugly asked if I was just sipping it or if I didn't like it. He ended up comping it and replacing it with a glass of wine, and immediately dropped the check without asking if we wanted dessert or coffee. Our food was delicious. It was the saving grace of this experience. It is unfortunate that we were stereotyped by the server, especially for our anniversary, a meal which we both were really looking forward to. The experience could have been so much more pleasurable if he had given us a chance. We still tipped him 30% and found dessert/after dinner drinks elsewhere.
Stevie our server was top notch. She was super friendly, knowledgeable. The food was fantastic from the Amuse Bouche to the dessert. The Caesar salad was well chilled, smaller whole leaves of Romaine, dressing was really flavorful. The Corn soup was excellent. The Duck was outstanding. The only thing was the Pork was a bit salty, most likely it was brined AND salted which is a no no. But we cannot wait to be back and eat our way thru the menu
We had a wonderful brunch at Blue Hour. The food was excellent and the service was amazing
Absolutely lovely place. Great staff. Live Jazz later in the evening.
Have been to Bluehour over 50 times, way back to Zifiro on NW 21st. This was a special time for us so the restaurant did a splendid job from start to finish. Food was excellent and service was tops!
Shall we start with the unbelievable desserts. You have to share at least two, but definitely the pear dessert. It was a combination of tastes that ranks it among the best I’ve tasted. My eggs Benedict was outstanding, with the egg perfectly executed over some tender ham. Two of the people at my table had vegetarian omelets which they said were the absolute best. The chocolate donuts were also tasty with coffee. The atmosphere is upscale but not stuffy in a repurposed industrial building, easy to find. The service was spot on. I will be going back for sure. Thanks K
Portland is a foodie town; at any one time there will be queues outside some currently fashionable places, while some equally good restaurants stand empty. I chose Bluehour for a reunion of long-missed friends because I knew the food would be good and hoped it would be quiet enough for a catch-up conversation. It was all that....plus exquisite service from everyone we met. As a Portland/Pearl institution, it is reliable, impressive, and appropriately formal without being stuffy. Did I say that it was quiet enough for conversation? Can't say that often enough!
Bluehour is ALWAYS good. Beautiful dining room, fine service, and reliably fabulous food.
Falling in love with Blue Hour again, after a few years out of Portland. My daughter had her prom dinner here years ago and from what I remember, it was a truly exquisite experience. This time around did not disappoint. Very kind, patient waiter, our family can be a little picky. Appetizers included Clams and a shared Radicchio Salad, both 8/10 -- My mother enjoyed the Duck and I was truly blown away by the Wild Salmon with Green Beans. Dessert was the true gem of the evening. We ordered the "Trio of Truffles" for the table and shared a piece of their Pecan Pie. This pie is alone worth coming to Blue Hour. Silk-like mouthfeel and perfectly paired with the Butterscotch Ice Cream.
A little upscale nook, located in The Pearl. My father was in town and we both really enjoyed this space. Jazzy/beatsy music plays in the background, giving BH a sensibly higher tier feel. The deco is very clean, sparkling, modern. For food we both enjoyed a few happy hour items, my favorite being the manchego cheese fritters. Also got fries, hummus, Burger and Casarecce. Honestly surprised at how affordable it was considering how the space seems. Patio was nice, as it got cooler though, we moved inside no issue. Will def make time to come back. Thank you to the team here for moving us in!
Great dinner at your restaurant again. Have brought business, family, and even the occasional date to Blue Hour and each time we have left feeling impressed. The service stands out as some of the best in the city without compare. Thank you!
We ate in the bar, and it was excellent in all ways. The brie and fig sandwich was especially delicious, as were the frites. Service very attentive and pleasant. I'd go back for sure.
Very wowed. Bluehour is that thing than doesn't exist anymore. That neuvo-upscale, Sex and the City, Pink Martini vibe. I was shocked at it's chilled out atmosphere because not only was it a nice visit due to service and ambiance, the food here is delicious. I was not a huge fan of my first drink, but it was swapped out at no charge quickly and what came after was perfect.
I've been going to Bluehour a few times a year for many years. The food is excellent, the interior very pleasant and, on the most recent occasions, the service was outstanding. Our server was a charming young woman who carried herself elegantly was was attentive to our every wish without being intrusive or overly familiar. Brava!
My only regret is that valet parking is no longer offered.
Bluehour is a lovely restaurant with attentive staff and a nice atmosphere. We were ready to have a lovely dinner out, but the food itself was inconsistent—the biggest failing being in the entrees that took far too long to appear and were uninspired (pork) to poor (risotto). I think there is a problem with execution and finishing in the kitchen that could use some attention. Wish I could be more positive, as the potential is there.
There are many reasons I love Bluehour. The decor is soft and relaxing. The level of sound is low and we can actually have a conversation at our table without raising our voices. The food is always delicious. The service is dependable and always perfect. What’s not to love?
The food was amazing. Our waitress was super friendly and helpful. They might have been understaffed for a Friday night because the food took a little long to get to our table, but they brought complimentary bread and samples throughout our dinner while we waited.
Excellent ambiance, staff and the food was SPOT ON. We had the duck breast and the halibut - must haves.
The live jazz nights here are the absolute BEST! As an oldschool fan of Jimmy Mac's in the Pearl, i was happy to see somebody carrying the torch. We ended up here with friends and will definitely be back. Had some "late" happy hour selections including their fries, some spaghetti, and those LUCIOUS french kisses ;) (two orders actually...) The owners here know how to make the mood nice and the music right. Hubby had a top collins cocktail and I stuck to my signature ketel martini. No complaints there, drinks came fast.
What a bummer! We have been to Blue Hour several times over the last decade. What a poor turn of fate for what used to be a favorite.
The menu is boring. And expensive for what you get. Our server was nice, but was ready for us to be there all night. We weren’t.
The last straw was a sneaky 5% service charge added to the bill to “cover tipping all the employees”, in very small print so it would have been easy to miss. There were 4 of us- not like we were a large party.
We won’t be back - there are so many better options in Portland.
We hadn't been to Bluehour in quite some time and felt fortunate to get a dinner reservation on very short notice before attending a play. The dining room ambiance is great, tables in close proximity, but not on top of one another so the noise level in the room is comfortably busy. We started with the padrone peppers which were served right out of the pan--nice and hot and delicious. The mixed green salad was fresh and lightly dressed to perfection. I had the risotto and my wife had the halibut and both were perfectly prepared dinner portions, nicely presented and tasted great. Topping everything about this great date night meal was the fabulous service, especially our primary server Stevie. She was warm, professional and comfortably intent on making our dining experience terrific. Kudos to Bluehour, which by the way partners with Passport Dining Portland.
Maybe it was an off night, but the fish was very salty as were the side accompaniments. Dessert was so so. Service was good, noise level was surprising given that the restaurant was about 1/5 full. Will have to think long and hard before returning.
Blue Hour represents what a fine restaurant should be. It has comfortable seating, relatively quiet ambiance, moderately extensive menu, and knowledgeable, friendly service. Four of us had a fine dinner there on a Sunday night, and Blue Hour was clearly the best of the four restaurants we patronized during our recent visit to Portland.
We all had another great brunch here! Staff is always good and so is the food!
We had not been to Bluehour in awhile and were very pleased to see that it is as good as ever. Sometimes a restaurant that has been around this long rests on its laurels, but not the case here. Great service, great food in an attractive space. Still at the top of its game; we will definitely return soon.
Blue Hour is the gold standard. Great cuisine, excellent, knowledgeable service, quiet, elegant, great people-watching.
Absolutely amazing experience. Highly recommend for anniversaries!
Good food and service. Only issue was lighting. Too dark. Had to use phone light to read menu
Great spot for happy hour or dinner. I went for a work dinner but would also go for a romantic spot. They have large floor vents for A/C that are cold if you are sitting right over them but they are happy to cover with floor tiles if you ask. Food is excellent.
As per all of my experiences at Bluehour, this was a superlative dining event.
I have had the same server several times, and she is a consummate professional: gracious, knowledgeable, efficient, and charming.
The food is always delicious, presented perfectly, and a delight.
One simply can't go wrong here, if one wants a top-notch meal, served under convivial circumstances.
Our waiter, Mark, was very professional and friendly. He offered recommendations from the menu and everything we ordered was on his list of recommendations. All were hits. We had a wonderful dining experience. We enjoyed every dish from appetizers to the main course to dessert. The same with cocktails and wine. The restaurant is very elegant and a contrast from the industrial /redeveloped area in the Pearl District.
Pre-theater dinner required a constant eye on the time, but the Sunday evening crowd was sparse and Stevie's service was terrific! Food was creative and delicious; portions large enough for us to share as we seniors like to, and a comprehensive wine and beer list. Live music was tasteful and not intrusive. Altogether we enjoyed a pleasant dining experience for four, and will return for another pre-theater dinner next year.
Atmosphere and service were outstanding! Live music was outstanding. But the food was only “good” - nothing special. And prices for both food and drinks were outrageous. $40 for a very simple salmon entree, and my cocktail was $15. Way too much for food that was only “good”.
The service was impeccable. My husband and I went here for our first year anniversary and we really enjoyed this restaurant. It was a bit early but they provided us with complimentary appetizers and champagne for this special occasion. Dinner was delicious, flavorful, and intentional. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants an elegant and modern environment with great food.
Food, as always, was excellent. Waitstaff was knowledgeable, helpful, and accomodating.
Stevie, our server, was phenomenal. Very attentive in a quiet way. My scallops were over salted and she whisked them away and presented a redo without missing a beat.
First time at Bluehour. Excellent food! Nice jazz band playing, too.
The food was very good, the service was very good as well. Our server was experienced and professional. After dinner there was a live jazz band playing and we decided to stick around for some cocktails while they laid down hit after hit. Highly recommend.
Nice business late-lunch at Bluehour today. Enjoyed the ambiance of the patio with friendly service and good things to nosh on. Great beer selection. Thanks all!
