We had not been to Bluehour in awhile and were very pleased to see that it is as good as ever. Sometimes a restaurant that has been around this long rests on its laurels, but not the case here. Great service, great food in an attractive space. Still at the top of its game; we will definitely return soon.
Blue Hour is the gold standard. Great cuisine, excellent, knowledgeable service, quiet, elegant, great people-watching.
Absolutely amazing experience. Highly recommend for anniversaries!
Great spot for happy hour or dinner. I went for a work dinner but would also go for a romantic spot. They have large floor vents for A/C that are cold if you are sitting right over them but they are happy to cover with floor tiles if you ask. Food is excellent.
As per all of my experiences at Bluehour, this was a superlative dining event.
I have had the same server several times, and she is a consummate professional: gracious, knowledgeable, efficient, and charming.
The food is always delicious, presented perfectly, and a delight.
One simply can't go wrong here, if one wants a top-notch meal, served under convivial circumstances.
Our waiter, Mark, was very professional and friendly. He offered recommendations from the menu and everything we ordered was on his list of recommendations. All were hits. We had a wonderful dining experience. We enjoyed every dish from appetizers to the main course to dessert. The same with cocktails and wine. The restaurant is very elegant and a contrast from the industrial /redeveloped area in the Pearl District.
Pre-theater dinner required a constant eye on the time, but the Sunday evening crowd was sparse and Stevie's service was terrific! Food was creative and delicious; portions large enough for us to share as we seniors like to, and a comprehensive wine and beer list. Live music was tasteful and not intrusive. Altogether we enjoyed a pleasant dining experience for four, and will return for another pre-theater dinner next year.
Atmosphere and service were outstanding! Live music was outstanding. But the food was only “good” - nothing special. And prices for both food and drinks were outrageous. $40 for a very simple salmon entree, and my cocktail was $15. Way too much for food that was only “good”.
The service was impeccable. My husband and I went here for our first year anniversary and we really enjoyed this restaurant. It was a bit early but they provided us with complimentary appetizers and champagne for this special occasion. Dinner was delicious, flavorful, and intentional. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants an elegant and modern environment with great food.
Food, as always, was excellent. Waitstaff was knowledgeable, helpful, and accomodating.
Stevie, our server, was phenomenal. Very attentive in a quiet way. My scallops were over salted and she whisked them away and presented a redo without missing a beat.
First time at Bluehour. Excellent food! Nice jazz band playing, too.
The food was very good, the service was very good as well. Our server was experienced and professional. After dinner there was a live jazz band playing and we decided to stick around for some cocktails while they laid down hit after hit. Highly recommend.
The live jazz nights here are the absolute BEST! As an oldschool fan of Jimmy Mac's in the Pearl, i was happy to see somebody carrying the torch. We ended up here with friends and will definitely be back. Had some "late" happy hour selections including their fries, some spaghetti, and those LUCIOUS french kisses ;) (two orders actually...) The owners here know how to make the mood nice and the music right. Hubby had a top collins cocktail and I stuck to my signature ketel martini. No complaints there, drinks came fast.
Nice business late-lunch at Bluehour today. Enjoyed the ambiance of the patio with friendly service and good things to nosh on. Great beer selection. Thanks all!
Falling in love with Blue Hour again, after a few years out of Portland. My daughter had her prom dinner here years ago and from what I remember, it was a truly exquisite experience. This time around did not disappoint. Very kind, patient waiter, our family can be a little picky. Appetizers included Clams and a shared Radicchio Salad, both 8/10 -- My mother enjoyed the Duck and I was truly blown away by the Wild Salmon with Green Beans. Dessert was the true gem of the evening. We ordered the "Trio of Truffles" for the table and shared a piece of their Pecan Pie. This pie is alone worth coming to Blue Hour. Silk-like mouthfeel and perfectly paired with the Butterscotch Ice Cream.
Bluehour is a solid restaurant choice. Our table tasted a variety of items including padron peppers, grilled octopus, chicken, halibut, salmon, and duck. As well as their cucumber gazpacho, beet salad and mixed green salad. All of the food was cooked very well and the flavors were pronounced and, for the most part, well balanced. There seemed to be a little bit of a sweet element theme that on many of the dishes worked fine. The only place where this seemed to miss was the addition of a meringue in the beet salad. The decor of the restaurant was a bit mundane but the service was professional and well trained. The menu itself is boring. Seems like almost every restaurant in Portland offers salmon, halibut, chicken and NY steak. I would like to see a little more ingenuity on the menu. Bluehour adds a 5% service fee to your meal to cover "the costs of legislation in the State of Oregon" or something along those lines. For me this was a bit off-putting and I would rather they just melded that into the cost of their meal. To me this just cheapened their branding. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant and I would consider going back.
The service staff seems uncomfortable and therefore ridiculously formal in their approach. The menu is fine and the food is fine. Given the price point I would expect better execution. Simple things really. The lentils were underdone and salty, the duck breast was tough and rushed (not cooked enough and rested). Overall very decent but the service aspect is notable. When presented with my entree the server said "here's your delicious duck", well I'll be the judge of that. We were constantly interrupted mid-conversation and when a wine recommendation was needed the server seemed determined to show us how much he knew, which was very little. I have no expectation that a 26 year old have an encyclopedic knowledge of wines but faking it is always worse than listening to what your customer wants. I always enjoy a good wine lecture but not when someone is just trying to order another glass to suit the entree. Overall a C+ at best given the pricing.
Hello EricG, We regret you did not enjoy your evening more. Male servers in our dining room are much older than 26. A description of your server would help me get to the bottom of this. I will speak with the kitchen about your food comments. The duck is served medium rare which sometimes is perceived as firm. You should have been asked if that temp was acceptable when ordering. Lentils are cooked al dente, but should not be over salted. We can do much better for you your next visit. Thank you.
The waiter was very attentive, but the food took some time. The risotto and beet salad were average. Beautiful restaurant.
Hello Enidtuo, Thank you for your feedback, compliments and critique. I will pass along to the staff. Please visit us again.
Seh schönes Restaurant, mit sehr sympathischem guten Service und der guter Küche. Die Weinempfehlung war perfekt.
Brunch was amazing and we were happy with the choices and the quality of the food and service! Well done 👏👏👏😍👏
Food was delicious. Service great. Live music on Sat night
Recently visited Bluehour for an anniversary dinner. We arrived before our reservation and they were able to seat us right away. It was a nice evening so we chose an outside table near the door that allowed us to still hear the live music on Sunday evening. I ordered the pork loin with spaetzle. I liked the overall presentation and textures, but it was a little too salty for my taste. My husband had the burger and seemed to enjoy it, but he also commented that the fries were over salted. We also ordered a Caesar salad and the garlic was almost overpowering. We enjoyed our cocktails and the wine list is extensive. I would be willing to give Bluehour another chance, but will so many great options in Portland, it might be a while before we make it back.
Blue hour has to be my favorite restaurant, always on point! On this occasion we had dinner for four in the dining room instead of their casual bar, staff were so pleasant, knowledgeable, and anticipated our every need with the casual sophistication of a professional wait staff who cares about your experience. The food was outstanding, I began with Blistered Padron Peppers with a delicious aioli then on to perfectly cooked chicken with chard and bacon on a bed of potato puree. All four at our table were delighted with their meal. Live music began at 9am but we unfortunately had to leave. Would definitely recommend Blue Hour for a quick bite or a full dinner.
Classic Portland gem. The ambience is perfect. Great menu. Beautiful flavors and service. Favorite Caesar salad in town. Would always recommend.
I very much resent being assessed a "labor SVC" fee. This is nothing more than a scam since it is not paid directly to the staff. Your labor cost should be reflected in your product pricing, not as a separate charge! I will return when you stop this offensive and insulting practice.
Our small service fee goes directly to supporting yearly state mandated increases in wages as well as all state employer mandates. Many restaurants do this rather than raising prices yearly. Yes, we could do the latter, but the result is the same. We understand that it is not always easily understood by patrons. Guests are paying no more or less in either practice. We respect you have an opinion on this, but can assure you the practice is fair and to the benefit of our employees. Thank you.
Fabulous food and service!
The prime rib was the best I’ve ever had. All the food we ordered was a really good including the beet salad. Our waitress gave us exceptional service. I’m actually craving that prime rib and can’t wait to go back again.
Hands down the best Halibut I have tasted.
The restaurant is more upscale, if you want to sit at the restaurant part, or more casual, if you choose to sit on the bar side, or outside on the patio. We sat in the restaurant part. They cut up real maple tree branches as decor, which I found quite interesting. We ordered the clams, octopus for appes, and duck and halibut for entrees. The server gave us some free amuse bouche as well as bread to start. The clams were good, they added some chives, which gives off a good aroma. The octopus itself was disappointing, as it was mushy. However, the bed of chickpeas that came with it, was amazing. It almost made me forget about the octopus, which was kind of sad, as octopus should have been the star of the dish. The duck and halibut both had a great sear, and cooked to perfection. However, just a tad too salty right at the top, but otherwise, perfect sear for both protein, and the halibut is cooked to an absolute perfection. I would definitely come back to this restaurant.
Bluehour was a last minute decision when the wait was way to excessive at MEC. Once inside we quickly realized this should have been our first choice.
This is an elegant tasteful restaurant that will remind anyone of what the words “Fine Dining” once stood for. If you are not interested in a sophisticated
yet excellent tasting menu then this is not your place. But if you want delicious options prepared and served with great care than Bluehour should be
next on your list for an evening out.
Outstanding service, Excellent food !
Very wowed. Bluehour is that thing than doesn't exist anymore. That neuvo-upscale, Sex and the City, Pink Martini vibe. I was shocked at it's chilled out atmosphere because not only was it a nice visit due to service and ambiance, the food here is delicious. I was not a huge fan of my first drink, but it was swapped out at no charge quickly and what came after was perfect.
Stevie couldn't have been better. She was awesome, graceful and immediately greeted us at the door as we checked in. The music was great. Loved the Latin and especially the dancers. Nice to see that. I spent many evening at Blue hour when you first opened having steak tartare during happy hour at the bar. Definitely missed it. The salmon dish was undercooked enough that I had to send it back. My guy gave me a bite of his fish and it was a bit overcooked and dry. Also the chair was so slippery that I finally put my purse under my kneesso I could sit back without sliding forward. I tell you these things in good spirit and hope to experience better cooking next time because I do love Blue Hour. :) Susan
Great! Loved everything once again :) Food was scrumptious, timing was really on, Mom was happy for her B-day. Always come back!
Bluehours food and drinks were excellent. My and my now fiance went there on our three year anniversary. I messaged the restaurant prior to going and let them know that it was our anniversary and they gave us complimentary champagne, and appetizer and dessert for sharing our special night with them. But what really made the night special was our outstanding service from Stevie. She was truly amazing, was knowledgeable and gave perfect recommendations. I cannot say enough good things about Stevie, she made the night so very special.
The whole dining experience was fabulous. The food, the service, the ambiance, the presentation it was all top notch.
The brunch had no punch. :( We thought it would have exciting offerings but it was blah. Price was ok.
Great Sunday night dinner spot Would do it again!
Can’t go wrong with $2 mimosas! I had the classic Benedict was very good but not enough hollandaise sauce, my mom got the corned beef hash and it was the best we had ever had!!
This restaurant is among the best there is. Excellent in every way.
