Bluegrass Ratings and Reviews
Booked the reservation 3 weeks in advance and still couldn't get the time I wanted. We waited almost 30 minutes to be seated which was a bit annoying but they compensated us with a free appetizer. People just love this place and don't want to leave.
The food is great and once we were seated, the service was excellent.
We were lucky enough to make our first visit on a Sunday. Sunday they have their smoked special.. ribs, chicken, and smoked corned beef... all of which was succulent. My wife ordered the jambalaya and ribs which she raved about. We both ordered shots of gumbo well worth the $1.95 per shot. They allowed is too modify which sides so I traded the taters for shrimp risotto and my wife switched one of her sides to cheese grits. Both were very good and the server was very helpful in letting us change the sides. For dessert my wife had the mini bread pudding and I had the sweet potato pecan pie. The mini bread pudding was an ample portion and the pie was a great sweet potato pie.
All in all, the food was great and the service was very helpful. The place is small so come early and have reservations.
Decided on Bluegrass from the great reviews we read. We picked up our son at Lake Forest College -his first birthday away at school-and headed over to Bluegrass which lived up to its boast of good Southern comfort BBQ and food. We left full and happy. My son enjoyed his ribs-licking off every last bit!
The orange shrimp appetizer was so good, as was the southwest salad. The ribs are good- not fall off the bone but more chewy and good. We also tried the chicken with artichoke and it was different and really good. Even though the crawfish etoufille has gotten good reviews, our kids have gotten it, and thought it was terrible- very fishy and would not recommend.
This was our first visit here and we will definitely be back. First our table was ready on time our server was prompt courteous and smiling. The owner / manager visited our table twice and really talked with us and cared that we were there. The food was excellent. I had the Sweinhoxen and it was just like in Germany. The free birthday dessert was huge chocolate and great.
Conducted our monthly Healthcare Businesswoman Association mentoring circle meeting at Bluegrass tonight. Phenomenal food and service. The presentation and delicious taste of the 4 unique dishes served to our table knocked our socks off. The snotini and fancy wine and water pours were exceptional. The coup de gras was the bananas foster served in a giant martini glass. A memorable meal for a unique group of women. Lots of energy on a Tuesday night. Every table was filled at 5:30 pm. Love, love, love this place, especially the caring owners and outstanding staff. Will definitely come back time and time again.
This was our first visit. We were driving down from Milwaukee to meet up with a friend who was in Deerfield on business. (Actually the friend is a man who lived with us as a foreign exchange student in 1990-91 and now lives in Memphis) We needed to find a place close to where he was and within easy reach of Milwaukee, also one that had several vegetarian choices on the menu. We found Bluegrass to be very appealing. Our service was wonderful, the food was delicious and interesting (no bar service for us that night) and it was a fun and lively spot to sit for a couple hours and enjoy dinner together. We will go back next time we're in the area and would definitely recommend Bluegrass to others.
We went to bluegrass for the first time and the food was excellent! Everyone in our party enjoyed it. The grouper was outstanding and if you like shrimp and grits, which I do !, it was also outstanding. The noise level was pretty high and the ambiance is not overly inviting but we would not hesitate to go again (even though it's an hour drive for us) ! Delicious. Excellent seafood and worth the drive.
This was our first time at Bluegrass. We were celebrating my wife's birthday. We had our granddaughter and daughter with us.
The food and service were top notch. We all went the seafood route. The three shrimp dishes we tried were excellent, and the gentleman who served us did a great job.
We plan to go back to Bluegrass many times in the future.
Honestly, we have been going to Bluegrass for years. We love cajun/creole food, and this was the only place to find it locally. Unfortunately, their cajun offerings are now limited, and the quality is not as high. Disappointed :-(
Bluegrass has always been one of my favorite places to eat. I love the crawfish etouffee just the right amount of cajun spice. Every meal my wife and I have had over the years has been great. They even found a way to get my wife to love shrimp. Just like down south the coffee is always hot and the drink are always cold.
A truly great place to have a meal and feel at home. A little blues music and you would think your in New Orleans.
A pleasant surprise. I took my 15 year old daughter just for a nice dinner. Everything we ordered was excellent. The atmosphere was very relaxing. There was a mix of people out for a night with friends to some families and their young adults:) Service was good and we had a nice night. We'll be back.
There are a lot of places that claim to offer cajun cuisine...this place actually does it. The food is fresh, well-prepared and authentic New Orleans-style fare. The menu is diverse enough that even those who don't favor cajun offerings will have no problem finding a good option. And the quality of the food is an excellent value for the price.
The bartender was great! He was friendly and understood his customer, making delicious cocktails. The staff was very attentive, though sometimes it seemed like the efficiency bordered on being able to flip a table fast. Our dinners varied and were very good - blackened grouper, cheesy grits and shrimp, skirt steak (somewhat underwhelming) and beef ribs. We actually wished we had skipped dessert. The dessert was ok (chocolate brownie with ice cream, and a bread pudding with whiskey and cayenne sauce. It was just ok and actually kind of took away from the meal. All in all, I would maybe go again because the comfort food items are not typical in most restaurants and I appreciate that about them.
