Another great experience. The food was wonderful and the lovely owner came out to say Hi. Definitely recommend and we’ll be back soon.

The service was not good. There was only one server (so we were often left waiting - not necessarily her fault), but she was also not polite. The food and ambience is good though.

A truly outstanding meal. Everything was delicious, the service was attentive, and the heated patio was an oasis (but not covered, so keep that in mind if rain is forecast!) The pumpkin puffs were amazing and the coconut panna cotta was one of the cutest desserts I've ever seen. Convenient parking in the next-door garage on Union Street. Lots of spaces available even on Saturday at 6pm.

This was our second time dining at the Blue Whale and we were able to build on the dishes we liked best from our first visit. We loved the Beijing dumplings appetizer and this time we also tried the pumpkin puffs filled with roasted duck. For entrees, we had the sweet and tangy chicken again and tried the stir fried beef. Everything was excellent.

Ever since Hakkasan closed in 2020, we have been looking for a special Asian restaurant in San Francisco. Last night we decided to try Blue Whale and it was fabulous in every way. For appetizers we tried the Beijing dumplings made with chicken and shrimp, the crab and corn soup and the har gow shrimp dumplings. They were all excellent, but we liked the Beijing dumplings best. For entrees we tried the sweet and tangy chicken, the salmon with smoked bacon and carmelized onions and the beef fried rice. Again, all three dishes were excellent, but our favorite was the sweet and tangy chicken. The description on the menu doesn't do the chicken justice!Service was excellent (our waiter was Johnny, assisted by the hostess Kaylee), and the ambiance is great. The Blue Whale has apparently been open for a couple of years and we don't know how we didn't hear about it before, but we will be returning soon!
