Back at the "Smoke" for some pre-July 4 Barbeque. We brought our daughter and granddaughter with us and they were absolutely out of their minds about the food. They ordered everything, wing, ribs, chicken, fries, mac and cheese, string beans, and potato salad and topped it off with some banana cream pie. No...they did not eat it all but they certainly did enjoy another nice full meal on the 4th (and no cooking). Congrats Blue Smoke...another fine job and a great day with the family!

Simply put, I think Blue Smoke is a far better value for lunch then for dinner. I've been to the restaurant (midtown and downtown) numerous. The other night, for dinner and what I'd call good-but-not-great-barbecue, the prices were just too high. And I should note that I'm not a bargain hunter and I don't mind paying for quality; but here we just felt kind of ripped off. Very good service. But $110 for a dinner for 3, which included 2 beers, 1 coke, and no dessert? Won't do that again.

Great, great barbecue. I lived in Texas for seven years and that was great barbecue. Blue Smoke is right there.

I would not recommend this restaurant. Server did not check for status of meal, or to check if more drinks were desired. They were, and we went thirsty - yet no sign of her. My food was average for a $20+ high-end burger, sort of meh. My colleagues ordered chicken which was supposed to be really spicy, both people remarked it was not spicy at all, in the least. I don't know why people would go there except for country music and an ok bar. For food there are many many better options in Flatiron area of NYC, especially given the high cost. Disappointing. Won't go back there.

Given the notoriety of the owner, we had higher expectations. The ribs were very dry, the sea bass was greasy, the pimento cheese was lackluster. The service and ambience were fine, but we came for the food and it did not meet expectations.

I get a little skeptical when it comes to someone's claims on good BBQ. Since I am able to get down to TN, TX, and the Carolinas quite a bit, I tend to be super critical of BBQ in other parts of the country. When I heard that Blue Smoke was named best BBQ in NYC, I thought what the heck and see what all the fuss is about. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised. We made sure to get a reservation for earlier in the evening so as not to be finishing our meal late into the night. The restaurant was not too crowded when we arrived, but quickly filled over the next couple hours. While the restaurant wasn't packed, it seems like we waited a bit for our server to get going. Once we were under way though, all was well. We tried roasted oysters on their app menu (I would stick to the items you came to try, oysters should stay off a BBQ menu unless they are absolutely to die for as these were nothing to write home about). Where they really shined was there head cheese slider, BBQ, and Country Fried Chicken. Head Cheese is NOT cheese and that's all I'm gonna say, but this slider was AWESOME!! Before researching head cheese, go have the slider first. The 7-Pepper Brisket and Country Fried Chicken were huge portions and you really get what you pay for. The chicken was still steaming 20 minutes after getting the plate, the skin really retaining the heat and juices. Needless to say, that I will return next time I am in town for more Head Cheese Sliders and to try something else on the menu!!
