Blue Smoke Ratings and Reviews
I didn’t have the best experience here. As a true southern I was dissappointed to learn that they did not have any ranch. Most of the menu items that are on the open table menu are not served at the restaurant. The table that we were seated at was not level at all. I was served a cocktail and because of the uneven table it tipped over during dinner. The server was very nice about it, but I don’t understand having tables with a wood finish that aren’t even. They do make wood tables that are flat so that you can eat on them. I don’t think I would ever return.
From the moment we walked in we loved it. Staff were friendly, helpful, happy and polite. Having had this visit planned for months for my brothers birthday we had studied the menu and had decided what we were eating before we even got there. We went for the whole pit. Wow was it amazing!! Completely faultless, delicious, perfect portion sizes and so tasty (I may need 2 seats for the flight home though haha) finished it off with cheesecake in a jar which was the perfect size and amazing taste to finish it off. Our waiter arranged a special something as it was my brothers birthday and we got to meet the chef Brett. He was absolutely lovely and was great to meet him. Fab end to a perfect afternoon. Definitely recommend a visit and we will definitely be returning!!!
Great food and excellent service are important to me and at Blue Smoke you will find both.
I made a reservation for 3 at 7 pm. I arrived at 6:35 to find one person in my party waiting already. Another was running late. I checked in with the host who said the table would be ready in 25 minutes. Went back to him at 7 and when he asked if my entire party had arrived I expected him to say "we have to wait until everyone is here to seat you". He didn't. He had us seated and didn't make a big deal about one person missing. (Most NYC restaurants are infamous for making you wait for your entire party to be seated).
Third person arrived and we ordered drinks, starter and entrees. Decent beer and cocktail menu and fast service. Our food arrived at our table within 15 minutes and we dived in, which is why I have photos to share. I loathe when my food is drench is too much sauce and oil, but Blue Smoke gets it right every time with just the right amount of flavor. My single Blue Smoke burger with crispy bacon was just what I needed after a rough Friday.
Our starter, the cornbread madeleines, never came out but when we addressed it with our server he apologized, put the order in, and removed it from our tab. He also threw in an after dinner drink, a St. Agrestis Amaro, free of charge for the table. Highly recommend if aperitifs and digestifs are your thing.
Yes there was a misstep in service, but I appreciate our servers willingness to rectify his mistake. Blue Smoke shall remain a favorite simply because I know the staff care about their patrons.
Whiskey and bacon coupled with a great live jazz show downstairs afterwards, what's not to like. The restaurant realizing we were attending the show, contacted us to move up the reservation, good move, and helped to secure great seats. You can also order off the menu during the show, but it is not as relaxed as the main dining area beforehand.
Way overpriced for the portion size. Service was the worst we’ve ever had in NYC. We’ve been here on numerous occasions and although it was slipping over time this will indeed be our last visit. We’ve done business dinners/lunches and get togethers. We had so many people show up to hand out food and take orders that we had to ask for things 2 and 3 times because the item never showed up. Auction waiter anyone?? I hate when you pay good money for food and a waiter shows up and says “who gets the Mac and cheese...who orders the ribs...seriously! I can get better service at Denny’s! Benches were in disrepair and were stitched back together with colored tape?!?! Finally, from ordering to check presentation was almost 3 HOURS, while the actual food came out lickety-split (because it sits in big warmers because nothing is made fresh) everything else took a lifetime time to arrive...if it ever showed up.
Most authentic bbq I've had in NY! Everything we ordered was delicious and we will definitely be returning. They have an excellent draft beer selection and we liked that you could order a pitcher for the table. The cornbread madelines, skillet mac n cheese, hot fried chicken, pulled pork & pork and beans were all excellent.
The front desk tends to be odd with reservations. In times past, I had not made a reservation and they make us feel like the restaurant is full when there are many empty tables i.e. sorry you will have to sit outside, oh but wait there is a table right now step this way...
This last visit I changed the reservation time and told the front desk my last name and that I was expecting four more people to arrive, but I was early and would be sitting at the bar. The restaurant was not crowded, when the rest of my party showed up they claimed that there were no reservations under my last name at that restaurant and that maybe they were at the wrong location.... Food is great, drinks are great but it appears they either are intentionally snooty at
daughter, so wasn't happy either!
Apps come well before drinks, also a negative.
