Appetizer (Oyster Rockefeller) was the worst I've ever had. Halibut for dinner was good. My wife ordered a Shrimp/Mussels pasta and it was pretty standard. None of it was worth the cost.
Service was awful. They were busy (at least the waiter was), but he acted like he didn't want to be there. His helper was more of the same. The manager was strolling along, asking how our meal was, etc., while his workers were weeded. No urgency to provide any "real" service at all.
Totally overrated and not even close to being worth the money spent.
We were planning on dessert, but just wanted to leave in the end. Not a good experience at all.
Excellent food, great server, though we needed to slow the service down a little. Totally enjoyed our evening there.
The service was amazing! They were and attentive and professional. This type of experience is hard to come by.
Food was fantastic. Lots of gluten free options were available. The price was amazing considering the massive portion sizes. Definitely a top end restaurant but not too end portions! Left completely stuffed and with leftovers for the next day! Will be back next time to sample more! The lobster bisque was gluten free, which is hard to find and was delicious!
What a great experience! Food, service, and ambience were all outstanding. Craig was extremely pleasant and helped us navigate the menu.
Food was just ok from the mediocre bread to the mushy fruit in the the ceviche as well as the albacore dish. The waiter was very good but the hostess seated us and we pointed out that the seat was greasy and my husband couldn’t sit in it. She said she was sorry 2x but never came to wipe it down. It was fine as my husband just sat side by side with me. Just a mediocre experience. They need to update the food mostly. Dessert was good.
Great food. Great service. Great atmosphere
My wife and I had a fabulous dinner a the Blue Point. This was our first dinner during a 4 night trip to San Diego and we picked this spot before we left KC. The atmosphere being quiet and all the seating sort of being sort of private made for the perfect dinner. And the food, wow!!! Also the staff was awesome, our waiter really made the experience magic. This is a must if you're in the area!!
The food was great although i wasn’t impressed with the lobster bisque. I hate these places that charge $49+ for an entree and then stick the 3% surcharge on the bill to cover the costs of wages and benefits for servers....it’s BS! Quit paying your corporate executives so much and pay your damn people that are doing the work! I won’t go back if I see that 3% surcharge next time.
As always, the food, service and abiance was five star. They have the best happy hour in town.
Just OK for seafood great wine list great after dinner drinks
Good seafood in the Gaslamp District of San Diego.. Reasonable prices
Excellent food and beautiful presentation. Service was extraordinarily slow -- I'm betting it was just one of those nights, and not a regular problem. Manager was very accommodating and apologetic, and all staff were pleasant and knowledgeable. I'd go back and give them another try, especially since the food and preparation were both so good.
Server was amazing, great service. Food was delicious!! Duck was excellent!!
We went before theater. Server was very aware of getting us out on time. Only 2 1/2 blocks from Balboa or Lyceum. Didn't have to move the car.
Very good food and service. A little pricey for what you get, but very good experience overall.
Service very slow, as well as being way too pricey! Not worth money
Lackluster service. Crab cakes were fishy, if the steak was any colder I would have sent it back, it was barely warm, lobster stone cold, had to ask for better - the waiter brought it in what I assume is a charming warmer that holds a candle but there wasn't one and it was stone cold. If it sat a few minutes more it would have hardened. The waiter (Craig I believe) was more interested in flirting with another server than waiting on our table. I have no issue paying fine dining prices. I will pay whatever it takes to get a good meal. I will pay even more for an exceptional meal. But I would rather eat at home than have a mediocre experience while paying for it.
Excellent dinner. Ordered the Chilean Sea Bass and the recommended drink pairing which I believe was a whiskey honey cocktail. Ambience and service was excellent as well.
Been coming here for 15 years, but I was really disappointed with this meal. The valet service is no longer there, which was really annoying on St. Patrick's Day. We sat down and advised our waiter that we had a showtime to meet, and he was aware. But virtually every service visit was delivered by someone other than our waiter, like he was too busy for a party of two. The lobster bisque was delicious, but the sea bass was unimpressive - the fish seemed "mushy" and didn't seem very fresh, not what I'd expect for $44. Then, while my daughter and I were having an involved conversation, I was interrupted about 4 times in two minutes to pick up plates that weren't done (does nobody know how to read a table? Hint: If the knife and fork are placed together, the diner is finished; if the utensils are crossed, they are not!). When I did see "our" waiter, I asked for the bill. When I saw the bill, I discovered this "4% surcharge" on the bottom. When the manager came to pick up the bill, I asked if the surcharge was for, he said for increased wages and other costs. I reasoned that if we'd been sitting there having a desert instead of a full meal, the costs would have been the same but the surcharge would have been far less, so their rationale for the surcharge as a flat rate of the bill was rather disingenuous, and that restaurants have been raising the prices of their food items ever since there were restaurants so "why would you be any different?". He removed it.
We paid and departed, but it's clear that Blue Point has lowered itself to cater to Gaslamp tourists who don't know better. I won't be coming back. What a shame.
Great service and hospitality. Food is very good and happy hour offerings are great.
Our server took excellent care of us, his recommendations were on point and the food was outstanding. The chef’s special was thoughtfully executed, light and tender Tongol tuna accompanied with rich smoked salmon mashed potatoes and a chutney stuffed pepper. A-MAZ-ING
We had Sea Bass and the Ahi Tuna with Lemon Pepper shrimp. The Sea Bass and the shrimp were both overcooked. The shrimp somewhat tough and the bass dry. For these prices the food should be perfect. Our waiter was attentive, but our entrees were very slow in arriving.
Reservation was for 1,000 Open Tsble points. Why did I only get 100...?
Can you pls correct this?
This is our fourth of fifth trip to Blue Point. It's become our standard "go to" place for a nice seafood dinner while in San Diego. It's not inexpensive, but fairly priced for what you get. The Lobster Bisque is the best we've found in the area.
Delicious. Great service, nice visit from chef
Phil was our waiter and was outstanding. The espresso machine was broken however and coffee drinks were cold. They should have been taken off the bill.
The staff was very attentive and the food was delicious. I had the poki appetizer and it was enough for a meal. Pricing was reasonable, nice wine selection.
The wrong dishes were delivered at first and then when corrected it was obvious that mine was just kept warm while the others were corrected and after a few bites my dinner was cool; Very disappointed.
My husband and I were visiting from out of town and Blue Point was recommended by friends. We had a wonderful dining experience. Our waiter suggested the Tempura squash blossoms for an appetizer, and they were special. Great vibe, good wine, great service, wonderful meal. I hope I have an the opportunity to return!
I usually judge restaurants by how they treat a women dining alone. They totally passed the test. A little problem with my reservastion when they tried to seat me with another party, but after that it improved. Great oysters, Scottish Salmon, creme burle, and a great clasdic martini. Cant wait to come back with my husband.
Excellent food and service. The tables were a bit cramped.
We chose this restaurant based upon its 4.5 star rating on Open Table. It was a lovely spot with a wonderful waiter...and it ends there! Not even one dish of the 10 or so served, including appetizers and entrees was even in a 3 star league. If not for Phil, our waiter, the whole evening would have been a bust.
Good food, great service
Wonderful oysters at Happy Hour and the stuffed quash blossoms so delicious.
We tried a locally distilled Rum that was excellent.
Food was good. Service acceptable
Delicious food, great service. Also recommend the happy hour
My latest experience here reminded me that even on an off day Blue Point is still good. Service got off to a slow start (I know there was a convention of mortgage bankers in town but there is always some type of convention going on) and it was only a Tuesday night! Still, 20 minutes to get a cocktail in my hand seems like a missed opportunity at best. With the exception of my entree which was only fair (Sea Bass), everything tasted great and was presented beautifully. I guess we're all entitled to an off day once in a while. Still, with all the other amazing dining options available in the Gas Lamp District, I may not just hurry back any time soon.
Wonderful experience. The waiter was terrific at explaining dishes and making recommendations. We thought it would be louder than it actually was when we walked in, so if you think that when you enter you may be surprised. We were sat in a booth. Very comfortable. Food fantastic and NOT your typical teeny tiny portions. Good size portions that come with a vegetable which is nice. Oysters were amazing!
Food and service were excellent, but way too expensive, like many restaurants.
