Blue Point gives you an old school atmosphere coupled with modern cuisine. Dishes are presented exquisitely and are exceptionally tasteful.

While the service was excellent, I wasn’t impressed with the food. Our oysters on half shell had some of the smallest, tasteless oysters I’ve ever had. Lobster bisque had good flavor but no lobster! The half lobster with the beef and reef was over done (rubbery). Not worth the cost.
Restaurant has a nice view of Gaslamp, played good music, and the service was good. But I don’t appreciate a 4% surcharge when my dinner was already close to $200!

Food was good, but the service was lacking. There seemed to be enough staff, but attention was limited and the messed up a few items that were not complicated. The ambiance is okay, but could use an update. Seems to have a little odor from the restrooms or something.

Excellent food, service and ambiance. We have visited Blue Point Coastal Cuisine every time we visit San Diego. They never disappoint. Seafood is always fresh and cooked Creatively and perfectly! We once again enjoyed a wonderful dining evening.

The food was delicious! The service was very slow. It took 20 minutes to get our 1st order of beverages. And the water was not filled regularly, nor were the tasty beverages refilled adequately. The ambiance was perfect, fun, bustling, and exciting! The food was excellent; we had lots of appetizers: ceviche, octopus, lobster bisque, salads, and a couple main courses to share. All in all, a lovely experience.

The food was good, not great, and definitely way over-priced for the quality. Service was slow, and our server forgetful (never mentioned the specials until we asked, brought the wrong appetizer). Very pricey for a pretty mediocre food and service experience, though the ambiance of the place was very nice (though tables packed very close together and a bit loud).

As usual, the food and service was great. The staff, from top to bottom, were very friendly and professional. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

I really wanted to like this place! Our hostess had a super negative attitude. No smile at all. Somebody outside left their lights on and it was shining through the window our faces, so we asked to move tables. She gave us an attitude, and we felt like we were a burden to her. As far as the food goes, it tasted great, but took almost two hours to get it. My girlfriend and I were already annoyed because the hostess, so it was hard to enjoy. The only highlight was our server Larry, who went out of his way to make up for the unfriendly hostess, so I give him props! Honestly, we won’t be coming back soon though. Expensive for below average service.

I had lobster and steak. The half tail I received was the smallest I have ever seen. Clearly, it came from a bay lobster. The veggies were ok. My wife had salmon and it was difficult for her to even make out what the veggies consisted of.

I am in town for conventions 1-3 times a year, had not been to BP in a while so decided to try it. Was on a Sunday night, but with convention starting we pretty full. The restaurant was understaffed it seemed, had to try to lasso the bar tender for 10 minutes to pay the tab before sitting. After finally having to grab out waiter so we could order, they were out of one of the entrees (7PM seating). All seemed slow on the service. Menu as I recalled was more limited on selection, so when loose a few not so great. I was going to get Branzino but waiter suggested, I would need to debone my self so suggested something else. Next wanted Halibut, but they were out. On desert were out of 1 as well. Was also surprised they added a 4% service charge to the bill. He said all the restaraunts were going due to minimum wage increases. I told him I had 2 dinners the week before in Gas Lamp and did not remember. Next night I check at Ocean Aire and no such add on, and back in office in ATL and looked at prior week bills and they had not added. So BP was the only restaurant out of 4 that added the 4%. I am all for supporting wait staff and kitchen help having worked in restaurant growing up as well, but felt it was not a truthful in way presented. Someone told me next day that I could have asked to have removed and not issue, ie optional, vs way waiter presented as all restaurants were doing it. One of the party ordered the steak lobster combo, it was undercooked so bad that when he talked to his wife that night told her if he got sick it was from the food there. While understand some things happen, but must have known from reservations and fact that same convention is in town almost every years starting on a Sunday they would have been better prepared. With a lot of other options might be a while for me. I have had group dinners at BP at least 8 times, so surprised.

Location beautiful and wait staff very friendly but the food was definitely not up to par for the price charged. My daughter enjoyed her steak but my husband and I did not enjoy our salmon and halibut. Halibut was dry and in two little pieces with a sauce that resembled melted cream cheese. Very small even by modern experience especially for the price. Ahi poke starter was nice. The dessert, apple crumble was not available so they brought us two crème brulees and comped them because they didn't let us know they didn't have the apple crumble until they brought our desserts. Very shocked for a Cohn restaurant to have served such poor quality of food and for the price too.

This is our first time at Blue Point. Everyone enjoyed their meal and our waitress was very personable. Be sure to get a reservation and expect the pay top dollar. We would go back for sure.

Excellent food. Recommend the Lobster Oscar. Service was a bit slow from start to finish. Disappointed no port wine on the wine list.

Overall disappointing, this place has great potential but was lacking in the basics for it to be successful. The food is the high point, dishes were creative and flavorful. For good food at a fair price this place was spot on.

Now for the needs improvement areas. Customer service staffing was short as either the waitress had too many tables to cover or lacked the capacity to manage those tables. Attention was short and limited, items ordered were missed although she did make this right on the bill still a major missed revenue point. Attentive ness to drinks, silverware, cleaning the table etc. were all lacking this night.

This place has so much potential to be great but on our visit they missed badly.

We dined on Wed, Jan 30. Mussels/fries appetizer was amazing and spouse enjoyed his lobster bisque. Entrees were good, not outstanding. We shared a dessert which was ample for two. Only downside was upon leaving the restaurant we saw a poster listing daily happenings. Turned out Wednesday was half price bottle wine night. Who knew? Not listed on the wine list and our server did not mentioned this. We did order wine by the glass but had we known that bottles were available for half price we might have made a different choice. Bummer....

Food was good, generally a little on the salty side though. Starting from the lobster bisque(underwhelmed), seafood cassoulet, lobster Oscar, octopus and shrimp risotto and lamb shank. We still finished our food. We we’re comped dessert once we gave our feedback. Crime brûlée and Apple crumble, banana fashioned were pretty good.

Service wasn't what I'd expect for an upscale restaurant. They did comp one of the appetizers to make up for it. The Halibut was dry. Tuna Poke lacked flavor. Just wasn't a great experience. Might be worth trying again, as we went on a Monday night, but not sure with all the other restaurants in San Diego, that I will be back any time soon.
