Blue Morel Ratings and Reviews
Have been here many times and have always loved the food but this dinner was the absolute best in terms of quality of food and most interesting presentation! Highly recommend duck ( had it several weeks ago), the lamb and branzino with artichokes. Friend loved Tuna Tartare. Great interesting wine list ( not the same old same old!). Enjoyed Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley and ( though don’t usually drink Chardonnay) a nice Chardonnay from Tuscany. Friends enjoyed other wine choices.
NEVER AGAIN! This was our second visit but will definitely be our last! The special appetizers were tasteless & way overpriced. We ordered a great bottle of wine and we were thoroughly enjoying our time together so it was almost two hours before we noticed that everyone around us, even people who came way after us, had been served their food. We alerted our server and she said there was a new chef and it would just be a few minutes. After 15 minutes of still no food and we were not even offered more bread or anything, we tried to get the attention of the manager who seemed aware but was deliberately ignoring us. After our urging, she finally came over and was barely apologetic. She offered us sushi that we had already had as an appetizer. We continued to see others around us served even after our conversation and she had offered no accommodation whatsoever. We were so starving by this point we decided to pay and leave. We have never walked out of a restaurant before and will never go back! Not to mention the parking is terrible because of weddings and the hotel, its noisy, and management is uninterested in providing good customer service!
We were very disappointed. The room is very attractive and the servers were anxious to please. Three of us ordered a special which we thought was similar to sweetbreads which is seldom on menus. We all took no more than a few bites, it was covered with a thick brown sauce, very unappetizing. Too top it off my dessert was supposed to to be hazelnut chocolate ice cream. It was not at all as described. There was a thick marshmallow like sauce over 3 different ice cream flavors none of which was hazelnut chocolate. The food was a disaster.
Heads Up. P I was entertaining a group of six business clients. Everything from the bar experience to the table service was excellent until they brought me the bill. Both the bar tab and the dining table included a 20% tip for parties of six or more. I was not informed by the Bartender or our waiter. Luckily I caught it myself and did not tip again on top of the 20% they already added. Our bill was over $700 so an additional 20% on top of the 20% they already added would have been ridiculous.
I have eaten here many times over the years. When they changed their name the food took a downhill turn. The chef obviously does not understand the concept of subtlety. Sauces and spices are so overwhelming you can barely tell what you're eating.
My wife used to love the grilled octopus. They started cooking it with chorizo. Octopus has a subtle flavor and with this preparation the only thing you taste is the chorizo.
A while back we ordered soft shell crabs. Again a delicate dish. It was covered with so much sauce, which had an overwhelming flavor that it might as well have been a piece of crummy tilapia. I could go on and on.
We used to love this place and therefore that's why we kept going back.
Lamb recently had such a char flavor that you couldn't tell what kind of meat it was. Seemed like they used an entire bottle of artificial smoke on it. My fillet was fine, but surrounded by vegetables that were spiced so heavily and poorly that they were inedible and flavored the meat.
The crab cakes are still great; the clams are minuscule, not worth the effort to remove from the shells.
Although we kept going back, hoping they'd get a new chef, we have decided this was our last visit. Shame.
I never were a review but I felt I needed to based on the experience. The price is very high and the food was ok. Super limited Sunday menu. I wish I went on another night. We asked for the steak medium rare. It came out extremely well done. By the time they came to see how the meal was and offered to take it back we were already more than half way through the meal. We didn't want to wait for a new steak. The least the could have done was comped dessert or appetizer but they didn't.
The food was very mediocre. I dine out frequently and the flavor of the food was not a good quality especially for the price. We ordered our meals with two sides and they forgot to make the sides until I reminded the waiter and they came out when we were nearly done with the meal.
This was a very poor dining experience.
I think of Blue Morel as two restaurants: one at the bar and one in the main dining room. The bartenders are friendly, remember faces well, and never disappoint when fixing cocktails. My wife and I prefer eating at the bar on a Friday night out vs the dining room because we enjoy the scene and chatting with the bartenders. When going with friends we enjoy the main dining room which has established itself as one of the go-to restaurant venues in the area. The staff is attentive but not looming and the wine list is one of the best finds in Morris County. Order from the raw bar and enjoy their sushi appetizers and you'll leave happy.
Never go back here .....very unprofessional service ....took over an hour after ordering for them to tell me they were out of lobster ...on there lobster night no less ....the waiter wanted me to order again after we had been seated for an hour and a half ....we walked
Enjoyed the restaurant for a birthday dinner . Very romantic setting and attentive service. Live music provided a nice ambiance for an adult crowd. The formal atmosphere was paired down by the friendly smiles from the staff . Food presentation was delightful and the flavors achieved even better . Very solid pick overall.
Delicious and fresh ! Came here for my birthday and they made it again special ! Thank you to our waiter! Great service and impeccable food! I love this place because it's romantic and quiet :) ❤️ We will be visiting soon! Keep up the great amazing service and delicious food!
We had the 3 tier seafood platter and lamb ! It was so fresh and yummy ! The mussels was big and delicious! The lamb was cooked to perfection !
Thank you Waiter for my drink ! :)
The Morel, had some nice reviews, so we gave it a blast.
The menus had good variety and decent composition.
However being in Hotel, was a fatal issue. No ambiance, very little intimacy either. It kinda puts you off immediately.
Our waiter was nice and tried to make the experience a more enjoyable time. Credit to him. The Maitre D' was colder than ice, brief and lacking in charm.
So really it came down to the food, which overreached itself from menu to table. Pleasing compositions were not refined or polished.
My main of scallops, fregola and cauliflower was uninspired. Scallops too big and tasting of little. The cauli & fregola were a lumpy ragu of grey, spotted with bleeding purple cauli. It lacked both fresh and textured elements.
It was more pub grub than restaurant. Food was mediocre and nowhere near value placed uppn it. Conclusion; give it a swerve
We have always enjoyed our meals at Blue Morel, and we will certainly return again. However, our waitress was simply terrible. She clearly seemed to wish she were somewhere else. We almost wondered if the regular professional wait staff all called in sick at the last minute and this woman was forced into service as the only possible replacement.
Perfectly executed dinner. If I was pressed to state a negative....the room was fer too cold.
But the dinner was delicious.
The server was charming, helpful and attentive.
Unusually prepared cocktails.
Updated menu for the season of fresh vegetables....corn soup, watermelon salad, etc.
A very select menu.
Came here for Father's Day brunch. Food was just OK. The turnoff though was when we received the bill and saw they had added a 20% gratuity...for a buffet...for my family of 4...in the middle of Morristown. Seriously? Not mentioned when I made the reservation, when we sat down, or when they brought us the bill. Maybe they were hoping we wouldn't notice and would tip over that. I get that for a full course meal in the middle of Times Square where you might get tourists who don't tip at all, but not under our circumstances. That was a real turnoff. Too many other places in the area to patronize here again.
I went for brunch with a friend.
Well, really not a brunch at all, the options were either standard hotel basic breakfast or very limited lunch options, and I mean limited : about 5 in the whole menu,
Service was slow despite the fact the place was practically empty ( now I know why)besides a table, already seated, of about 20. The best part about this place is the quiet, you can talk without shouting and the chairs that are really comfortable. The food was " meh" nothing special. I wish they did not advertise brunch because they really do not have it.
The food was delicious and expertly prepared and the wait staff was extremely attentive. My only issue was with the lack of a dress code. It seemed an odd choice to sit a gentleman wearing a t-shirt, shorts, and flip flops next to my wife and I as we celebrated our anniversary. I understand the restaurant is attached to a hotel, but maybe you can suggest casual dinners sit at the bar.
My wife and I were celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary. I actually met my wife at The Blue Morel restaurant when it used to be a club in the early 1990's called Boca Bay.
Overall, The Blue Morel is a fantastic restaurant. The seafood selection and the food quality is the best in the area. In addition, the cocktails are made to perfection. The Blue Morel never disappoints. We had a fantastic evening !!!
The food served was a prefix menu. My wife food was great tasting and flavorful but my meal was very underwhelming. Service was very poor....service took a long time yet the room was only at 30-40% capacity. Waiter took my meal away and ask if I like coffee but never ask my wife the same. Manager came over about 5-10 minutes later and ask the same question to us both but never came back with our coffee. We finally flagged another waiter and he brought it over right away. Was very disappointing to me as I've eaten here many times before and this was not the typical service we have come to expect. Will probably be a while before I consider coming back.
We have eaten here many times, especially for special occasions. Our waiter, Fabian, was fantastic! He helped us the last time we ate at this restaurant too. I highly recommend this place. We've never had a bad experience.
