Blue Morel Ratings and Reviews
Visited for Christmas dinner, so I can't comment on the normal menu, but everything was impressive. Incredibly professional but warm service, a nice selection of cocktails, wine and beer (I discovered a beer that I had not had before that was wonderful - Ommegang Hennepin). Incredibly comfortable seating. The meal was incredible - the main course was horseradish-crusted lamb served on top of a mix of lentils and mustard - the seasoning taken all together was almost like a sausage spice. Absolutely delicious, and the meat was cooked to perfection - literally. This was the best red meat I've had all year. Dessert was excellent as well - a "yule log" which was filled with chocolate mousse and a chestnut paste of some sort with a bit of eggnog ice cream on the side. All in all, an excellent dinner, even more so when you consider that it's an "event" type menu.
We dined at the Blue Morel on Christmas Day. The food was very disappointing. We selected from a Prix Fixe menu including an appetizer, main course and dessert for $75. The appetizer (Coquille St. Jaques) was the only good part of the meal. The bread in the bread basket was at least a day old. I had to send my Chilean Sea Bass back twice because it was overcooked. It took ten minutes to get it back the first time. Unfortunately we had to call this to the manager's attention. I eventually settled on a different entree, the crab cakes, which were not much better. By this time, however, my wife was well finished with her entree. She had the lamb which she ordered medium rare. The inside was red and the outer parts were overly well done. The desserts were underwhelming. My wife ordered the panettone bread pudding, which was also very dry. I had the Yule Log; the mousse was not light or creamy as one would have expected. The waitstaff was trying valiantly to make up for what the food lacked. I was offered a complimentary glass of wine and our pre-dinner cocktails were removed from the bill. Now, we realize that we were there on a holiday, and the restaurant was most likely short staffed. It was very obvious to us that much of the meal was pre-prepared. My wife had been to the Blue Morel once for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, which is why we selected the restaurant for Christmas. We expected an elegant dining experience, which for a total bill of $250 (for two people), was marginal at best.
We ate at Blue Morel for Christmas dinner. The food was exceptionally good and creative. We enjoyed the opportunity to have great wines by the glass, either in 3 ounce and 6 ounces.
Wonderful recommendations in detail by the sommelier.
The staff was very attentive and accommodating to all our requests.
We loved Blue Morel and we look forward to returning soon.
Went here for Christmas. Wanted to take my mom to a nice lunch. What a spectacular disappointment. The food was super overpriced and the service was awful. I had to send back the ribeye bc it was the fattiest cut imaginable. Then they overcharged me on the bill and it took them 15 minutes to resolve.
Very disappointed this time. This was the second time after multiple dining experiences that we were very unsatistied.
The service was very slow, even though the restaurant was empty.
The food did not all come out on time.
The salmon and chicken were mediocre.
I had one request and it was never granted. Our friend was celebrating his birthday and I also spoke with someone who said they could not provide a cupcake, however they would provide 3271 Buckhead Forest Mews NE, Atlanta, GA 30305 dessert with a candle.
The staff never did provide anything or offer dessert.
Your wine by the glass is priced higher then other restaurants in your area.
It is too bad since we live within walking distance to Blue Morel.
For starters I had tuna tartare which was delicious, not over powering and didn't taste fishy at all. My friend had shrimp cocktail which was very meaty- worth it! Then for my entree I had Chilean sea bass which was perfectly done with Bokchoy Chinese vegetable and a little bit of artsy sauce around it-nicely done. We had a complimentary dessert ( 2 to boot ) which was very generous of them and my first time to ever receive out of our dining experience --not because we complained. It was sinfully delicious & just the right sweetness to it. We had the bread pudding & the pumpkin cinnamon pie. It was a great experience & I would not hesitate to go back there.
The food was good but not consistently so. 2 of us had the duck tacos and the duck was dry and overcooked and the accompaniments could have been more flavorful. The "crème brulee" was more like an ordinary custard and not like the crème brulee that I am familiar with, It did not have the richness associated with Crème Brulee. Salads good and soup good. Since the dining room was not crowded at lunch we did not feel rushed although the waiters made quite a few "passes" as if they would be happy if we left. We ignored that.
My wife and I were looking for someplace new to try on a Sunday night and Blue Morel delivered a very pleasant dining experience, hitting the mark on food, service and ambiance.
This was our first visit and we were surprised to learn that there is a prix fixe menu on Sunday nights, which at $34 or $39 (I forget), seems like a remarkable bargain. Our bill was higher than needed as we both ordered drinks, and I chose some of the offerings that came with an adder. I didn't pay attention but judging by the final tab, I think the coffee was not included with desert.
As an appetizer I had the crab cake and my wife had the butternut squash soup. Both were excellent. The touch of citrus on the watercress adorning the crab cake perfectly complimenting my cocktail was a stroke of good luck. I tasted the pumpkin soup and it was fantastic. My entree was the Chilean sea bass ($17 adder) and my wife had the salmon. My wife loved her salmon, and the next time we return the only reason I'm not going to have the sea bass again is because I want to try their steak. Our desserts were a warm chocolate brioche and pumpkin cheesecake. I would have preferred a slightly more bittersweet chocolate flavor to the sauce, but that's personal taste, and I really can't complain.
Three very minor flaws. The assistant server that brought out our desserts topping off our sparkling water from a pitcher. The chocolate brioche was described as having a raspberry sauce when in fact it was so thinly spread it lent only aesthetics to the plate. The third, food presentation was so so, this may have to do with it being Sunday evening, so while presentation wasn't something to rave about - the food was still quite delicious. As I said earlier - minor flaws, that didn't really distract from or diminish the meal.
Overall, we were very pleased with our drinks, food and service making our first experience of Blue Morel thoroughly enjoyable. I'm sure we'll be back
Classy restaurant for a special event or for a burger at the bar. Lively atmosphere but not loud. Our food was great but our waitress was disappointing. She was in the wrong job. Try the filet mignon or the red snapper. Also fun for cocktails at the bar before dinner. Easy parking.
Good food bordering on great: my grilled octopus/ pork belly salad would have been spectacular if there had been a "char" on the octopus (pork belly properly so).. The salmon was indeed cooked medium rare but a little overwhelmed by the broth - which really made it salmon pho, and the noodles were ramen not udon. My companion very happy with the "signature" Chilean sea bass, thought the crab cake starter good but not more. Prices on the high side ($18 appetizers, mains $30 and $38). Wine list very pricey. Service was good, started a bit on the "hotel service" foot - not seeming especially interested in the customer- but she warmed up to us. We warmed her up, rather. Still looking for that sensational Morristown resto.
Very good restaurant. I agree with one of the other reviewers who said that this place would be packed if it were in the downtown area. Food was terrific with great flavors and service was excellent. Whiskey selection in the bar was an added plus. Would definitely go back.
Had another very nice dining experience at the Blue Morel. Staff is attentive yet doesn't hover. The sushi rolls just can't be beat. Had the scallops and the duck and both entrees were garnished just enough to still allow the real flavors of the meat/fish to shine. Highly recommended.
Excellent oysters. The choice of steaks is limited and I do not care for the crusting that comes as standard. Just give me a good steak cooked without the unnecessary fuss. Good choice of wines by the glass. I have only dined here at lunch before this at the bar and to be honest preferred that to the formal dining. Service was slow and not observant to needs.
We've been to the Blue Morel a number of times and the service and food are always very good. Local ingredients a plus and variety of cuisine choices. People in our party got sushi, raw bar, salads, duck, fish, chicken, crab and all very good. The desert was great. Got the warm chocolate brioche.
One of the few places you can get a local cheese plate for desert.
Started with the squash soup and the crab cake appetizer. Flaverful crab, well formed without being dense; crisp finish. Wonderful soup - complex, deep flavor - a characterisic of the main courses as well. Duck breast was flavorful, tender, perfectly done; though very flavorful and a nice contrast to the breast, the confit was too salty. The pickled fesno peppers where a bracing but pleaseant surprise. Red Snapper had a crisp crust but was tender and moist. The sauce and the beans were the winner of the night - buttery and spicy at the same time.
Caitlin our barmaid was excellent. Very knowledgeable about craft cocktails.
Fabian our waiter was also excellent. He explained all of the dishes and had some great recommendations. Very nice to talk to.
Our meals were delicious. Crab cakes were amazing.
We were there for our anniversary and they both made it very enjoyable.
Would recommend to friends .
Outstanding meal as usual. We feel fortunate to live so close to Blue Morel. We love the lamb sirloin, the kale salad and the crispy brussel sprouts. The scallops are also wonderful and the crab cakes too. This is a top notch find as the meal never disappoints. Also the bar scene is great too as you can go for a light bite or late night bite when you can't find anyone else in town serving after 10pm. You can still order light fare at the bar. Great choice of draft beers and cocktails are great too.
The food is outstanding, however, at this visit the service was just plain horrible. The waiter couldn't have been nicer but we waited over a half an hour for our cocktails...another half an hour for our appetizers. What should have been an 1 1/2 hour dinner was a 2 1/2 hour dinner. People had to work the next day...it was terrible. It wasn't even like they were that busy. It turned me off for a while. I loved the food, sushi is great and fresh, oysters delicious, we all had the sea bass which was wonderful...just too bad the service put a damper on things. I will go back, but not for a while.
Awful experience. $49 steak that was finally delivered when everyone in my group was done. Narly piece of meat finally delivered by chef? Gotta to be kidding! Delfrisco in NYC same price and phenomenol. Waiter absolutely atrocious fooling around with the staff. Been here many times and have enjoyed the place. EAfter this? Goodbye!
