Blue Moose - Prairie Village Ratings and Reviews
We enjoyed a very tasty brunch. The prepared to order eggs Benedict and omelettes we're delicious. We liked that they were brought to the table rather than having to go check on them. The server was attentive and kept our drinks filled and removed dishes quickly. A few notables: smoked salmon, pasta, and dessert.
Great value for a brunch buffet that had a wide variety of items that were delicious. Our service was a little slow. Half of our table ordered from the menu and did not do the brunch buffet. They all said their food was excellent, but one person didn't get their meal until everyone else was done.
We choose a new place each year for Restaurant Week. Their location photos pulled me in and a neighborhood bar sounded fun. How can you go wrong with a place that has a blue moose head over the fireplace, right? The online menu was quirky for us, but we thought for restaurant week they may have something a bit more standard. We called to say we were running about 5 minutes late and they did not have any idea we had a reservation. I dropped off my friend while I parked. When I went inside , I said the other person was already seated and they told me he was in the sun room, with no offer to take me there. I had to ask where that was and she took me to the door of the room, letting me find the right table. We did not get restaurant week menus and had to ask for them. They brought us one to share. I know they had more because a table of six asked for one and they also got one to share. The choices were as quirky as their online menu. Our opinion was that the goal had been to crowd as many flavors as possible into each course, and it was too much in almost every instance. I love herbs and unique food combinations. I'm not a big fan of beans or sausage in pasta , but it was the best of the choices. Mashed cauliflower, broccoli, and rice sounded good as a side for the sea bass, but in this case there was almost no flavor. On the plus side, they served Harney and Sons hot teas and the double brownie was very good. They were not all that busy on a week night but our food came slower than we would have thought. Our server did a good job keeping beverages topped and we did get to sit in front of their large, toasty fireplace. I wanted to like this restaurant since we don't go out often to a nicer place, but when I compare what we've had for the standard $33 at other restaurant week locations, this was not the value nor the experience we hoped for.
A friend and I meet at Blue Moose for dinner every couple of months. I really like the hummus plate. We were seated in the porch area by the fireplace. It was very warm and cozy.
Turns out a friend and her family were there celebrating a birthday. Fun time.
Drinks as expected - three soft drinks, one cosmo, one water. Appetizer ok but not enough pita bread (6 pieces I think) with the hummus. Chicken tortilla soup - not good at all, pasta with chicken (two of us had this) barely warm and was cold within a minute or two, wedge salad good, sweet potato fries very cold (and had them replaced with warm ones - two people had to eat most of their meal without the fries, buffalo chicken wrap good. No dessert. Had to wait for about 15 minutes with a reservation - only had four tables for a party of five we were told after booking on Open Table for a certain time. A very average meal - probably won't take the family there again anytime soon unfortunately as it's mid-way between our two houses.
We had a reservation for a group of six for a holiday business lunch. Our table was clean, ready, and waiting when we arrived. In fact, I received a courteous reminder call prior to our arrival. The menu selection offers good variety with some unique choices. We had six different lunch choices including salmon, veggie burger, curry chicken, and more. Every meal was delicious and the service was attentive and friendly. I have also dined there for Sunday Brunch which is also a great experience. I highly recommend The Blue Moose for a non-chain restaurant, informal, and comfortable dining experience.
Got a reservation via Open Table for a 10:30am Sunday brunch. It wasn't needed, but got one just in case. The food for brunch was amazing and there was a good variety. Our waiter was very nice, and checked on us regularly. Used plates, etc. were picked up promptly and glasses were rarely ever empty long. Cost was around $17 for brunch...well worth it!
It took 30 minutes for our food to arrive. Order was wrong. Fear of waiting longer for food, we ate it anyway. Waitress seemed nice although overwhelmed and ignored us when we tried to get her attention. My husband's martini was $14.95! CRAZY expensive! Hamburger, steak, fish tacos and the martini...our bill was over $70.00! We eat out a lot as a family and open to paying for great service and great food. The experience at The Blue Moose didn't offer either.
I made a reservation for two at 6:15. It was approx 5:15 when I made the res. We were there by 5:00 PM. My son arrived before me and gave our name. When the hostess noticed that I had arrived, she proceeded to take us to a table. There were quite a few tables and booths still available. I had requested to be seated in a warm quiet area. She took us past these open tables to the sun room which has many windows. I mentioned that I had requested a warm quiet area. She said, “If you get too cold you can request to be moved, or ask the waiter to turn the heat up. “ I should have stuck to my request, but I allowed her to seat us in that area. There were already two families with children in that area. One child was playing with something on his phone/ iPad that made ringing noises. He finally stopped when their dinner arrived. It became colder, and I asked the waiter to turn the heat up, which he very pleasantly obliged. Please understand that a had a very warm top on, but still became chilled. Before we left a large family with a baby and another child arrived. Most large groups make noise.
The food was good, as usual, but our seating was not pleasant. I don’t think the hostess cared one bit about our request. It will be quite awhile before we return, if ever. My son and I met there, because he can take that route home, but I went a few miles out of my way to meet him there.
The food was very good. Service was mediocre and she got things wrong. But mostly I was upset we asked to move because we were cold yet told no. We ate with our coats and hats on- not comfortable... but would return for a second chance for sure. Food was so good!
Ordered fish and chips. The fish was greasy and the fries were ice cold. A person I assume wa s a manager came to ask how everything was but left before anyone could answer. I spent about $100 and when I got home I thought I had left my cell phone and called they said they were too busy to help.
First visit, but am definitely coming back! The food was delicious and well thought out. My meal was a filet mignon with balsamic glaze served with a cauliflower puree and veggie succotash. Quite healthy for how delicious it was. I would eat that meal every week. (every night? maybe!)
Many other entree choices sounded great as well. Classics with creative touches. And they were accommodating with a substitution. A customer on the outdoor deck had a dog, which I actually love.
I love that they offer mini portions of desserts when you just want a taste. The Flourless Chocolate Cake with Mousse & Limoncello Torte both smashing.
Outdoor seating available. Quiet enough for conversation - in fact, a bit dead on a Saturday evening ?
Waiter was very pleasant, laid back, seemed a bit inexperienced, but that's fine.
Lots of sports tv's which I could have done without, but no harm.
Casual, relaxed, friendly atmosphere with EXCELLENT flavor combos & choices. My sincere compliments to the chef as well as the staff!
