   We fist ate here about 4 months ago and it was great. This time I can honestly say it was the worst dining experience I have ever had. Everyone who arrived after we did was served and finished their lunches before we were served. First, It took 1.5 hrs to get our entrees. The food was beyond bad - fish was old, and hardly anything but lettuce on the Salad Nicoise; the salmon and avocado toast came out with an ice cold fried egg on it, cold potatoes, and no salmon. When we complained a a new warmed plate was brought out but without any salmon. Finally, after complaining again, a side of salmon that mush have been 10 days old was brought out All of it was inedible. Do yourself a favor and don’t go here. To the manager’s credit, he comped all the food (not the drinks). And by the way, the mark up on our bottle of wine was 300%.

   Wonderful dinner and drinks to celebrate Father’s Day! Beautiful outdoor dinning area with a view of the ocean. The high top chairs could be more comfortable though. They’re hard to sit in for long periods (in need of foot rests at center of table vs under chair; the sides of round-back chairs dig into hips).

   They are clearly having service issues. Our server was quite good, but the other staff was lacking. I like to have an even, unrushed cadence during dinner. I do not want my salad brought out before the appetizer is finished. I REALLY hate when the main comes out while still eating the starter. Not only did they rush each course, they didn't even bother to clear the table/dishes from the previous course. My girlfriend and I had to stack dishes just to make room for our main course. Not the experience we were expecting at a reasonably expensive restaurant. On top of this, it was for her birthday. The server apologized, but did not offer to do anything. She also mentioned that the GM had already gone home, so there was no one else to speak with. To top it off, the food was just ok. Overall disappointed.

   Server was very professional, friendly and responsive to our questions. Food was served in a reasonable time and very tasty, but our first wine selection we were told was not available, even though it was listed on the wine list. The owner came to the table to explain why and did recommend another choice. He spent time with us talking about his wine list and the taste value of some of the bottles, even offered to give us a taste sample a his recommendation.

    This restaurant is everything you could hope for, for a fine yet casual dinning experience. Yes this does indeed sound like an oxymoron, but that is what you get here. We don't have many restaurants that offer this experience consistently here in SLO. Blue Moon Over Avila is always my top recommendation for a restaurant that offers a creative and well executed menu as well as fantastic service and one of the best outdoor dinning experiences around.

    Outside very nice. No noise. Food very good. Service incredibly slow! Waitress very nice but seemed unaware that it was like an hour before ordering and then between each course.

    We have been to the restaurant many times, but the prices have gotten so high, might have to try others. It worked out for our party of 6, at $100+pp. With the gas prices and inflation, might have to forego restaurant prices like that. It was our grandson's graduation from Cal Poly, so we splurged! The food was great though

    Food was awesome, as usual! Definitely recommend the Australian Wagyu steak special if it's available...my wife and I split this huge portion of gorgeous protein, and it was perfect. We forgot that Friday evening's are Avila's Farmer's Market, so it was a total scene just outside the doors of Blue Moon! :)

    Lunch menu was okay but not special since we went for a birthday celebration. Unfortunately, even though I left instruction for a "birthday dessert" for the occasion, the waitress didn't get that instruction and no birthday anything mentioned in the end. It was a disappointment.

    We made reservations and arrived about 15 min early. We were taken immediately to our table and had the opportunity to sit in the back area where they have live music with a pianist. Our waitress, Aundrea was wonderful and fun. She explained everything clearly, including the specials and food choices. Nothing was a problem. The music was exquisite and we loved every song. I ordered the Wagu steak special and it was cooked perfectly. My wife ordered the mushroom ravioli, which was beyond description. We ended up the dinner with a Creme brûlée and paired it with a French desert wine. A perfect dinner and music with perfect company. 41 years married and counting. We highly recommend this restaurant for an anniversary or for any reason!

    Our party had the salmon, the risotto, the French Onion soup, wedge salads and Coq au Vin with Creme Brulee to finish. Innovative flavor touches in every dish. All marvelous, as was the service. The first time our group had gotten together in over a year, and it was the perfect evening.

    Date night trying a new restaurant. Food was very good, the mushroom ravioli had a nice assortment of different mushrooms and the sauce was delicious. Also enjoyed listening to Jeanne Potter playing the piano after dinner. We will be back.

    There was no cadence to the service . For a restaurant of this level , the servers should know to space your service between your appetizer and salad course . Then dessert is served and coffee is 20 mins behind desert . They have the area cornered but , I recommend driving into San Luis or Pismo before spending money to eat here the staff is friendly . The quality of food was minimal and the menu too limited .

    I ordered the sea bass which was the special. Wasn’t told the price - shocked when I got the bill and it was $61.00 - much higher than the other entrees. And it was not very good. I ate the fish, but left all the soggy, mushy grain underneath it.

    I love this restaurant! European ambiance with great service and a view of Avila bay. I do miss the lobster sandwich they took off the menu as it was one of the best I have had on the central coast, but the French Onion soup and the farm to table salads and other dishes are wonderful

    We had anticipated this being better and unfortunately tonight it just wasn’t. The menu is interesting and looks delicious but the execution just wasn’t great this evening. I’m sure it’s been wonderful for many people, but we were disappointed. For the price point…it just did not show up really at all. That said, we would come back and give it a second chance. It just feels like it wasn’t firing on all pistons this night and the food preparation and quality was just OK at best. And we ordered well. I know how challenging it is to provide excellent food and service. It’s just that I don’t feel like they had their best showing tonight or their best chefs performing well. I would still encourage people to go and give it a shot to support the business and just hope that your experience was better than ours on this particular night.
