Excellent food (lamb was fantastic), perfect level of service. Nice wines - for a local selection try the Peleton Petite Syrah. We sat outside in the front corner for an unbeatable sunset view.
Great food and service. No acknowledgement for our anniversary even though we wrote a note in the reservation
Food was delicious and our server was very personable. The French onion soup is the best!
The French Onion soup was good. The service was a little slow...not sure if they are under staffed. The view is amazing. My carrot soup was pretty good but could have been hotter. We had one halibut special which was good...one mushroom ravioli with chicken which was fair due to the chicken being a little tough...one salad that was pretty good. We also had the pudding desert and one flourless desert which both were good. We will be back since we live in the area but have had better meals and service on our prior visits.
We sat outside under an umbrella and it was fabulous to see the ocean, do some people watching, drink great wine and eat excellent food. Highly recommended.
Birthday dinner, food was really good and the service was great! We would definitely come back when we’re in town.
Angelina was our server and was excellent in listing the specials, making sure our water was full, and assuring that we were happy with our meal. We will be back. Thanks
The experience was magical. Wonderful food, amazing staff and great ambiance.
We spent a beautiful evening on the patio at Blue Moon. The sunset and ocean view was gorgeous. After many quiet months, to enjoy a vibrant evening was special.
The restaurant was very welcoming, our server was terrific, and everyone enjoyed their choices. Nice summer wine options, appetizers of brie with walnuts, apricots and pears, delicious miso salmon, etc.
We actually returned again last night as it was worth a second trip.
Many thanks to all for a such a good time!
This was our first time dining at this restaurant and we were thoroughly impressed. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and very attentive. I highly recommend dining at Blue Moon Over Avila!! It’s absolutely worth every penny!
Consistently great food, great service, and great setting. We love this place.
Thought we could order grill cheese as there is a contest going on in SLO. It is only served at lunch, oh well. The Maitre was excellent recommended a nice wine Foliette. My husband and I both had the special Lingcod and it was tasty. Would have liked either bread, where you didn’t have to pay for it or more vegetables. Of course nice atmosphere living here in Avila.
My family came in from out of town, nice little lunch place. Not to crowded but had a reservation.
Our food was terrific, but the overall experience was very disappointing. Seems that a large party came in when we were halfway through our meal and the server, in her words, was “slammed,” and not coming through with the second glass of wine and basket of bread we ordered. We waited patiently for an explanation but finally just finished our entrees without them. This on top of finding a piece of aluminum foil in our appetizer and being offered a complimentary dessert. She then also offered to take off one of the two glasses of wine that we did receive.
When the tab came and the dessert was on the bill, her hurried response was that there was an “executive decision” to take off the most expensive item, before she hurried back to the large party. In short, our experience of a leisurely night of dining was ruined, even though the food was good. A table of four next to us also had problems even getting their initial water and drinks in a timely manner and had to search for the manager to rectify it.
I emailed my concerns to the owner the night we got home, but have yet to receive any acknowledgement at all. We’re not looking for any freebies, but an apology would be nice.
We were on time for our reservations and seated immediately. Our menus were placed on our table along with our table settings but nobody came to ask or offer us any water, or drinks nor even take our order. Luckily we were not starving. I had to flag down the hostess to ask if we could order since we noticed 2 other tables seated after us were served almost immediately and their orders were taken. After 45minutes of just sitting, we finally placed our entire order (drinks and dinner) in case it was going to take another 45 minutes to get our food. Luckily it came out fairly quickly and was delicious plus the ambiance and sounds of the ocean made it more pleasant and tolerable. Helpful tip, especially a table that has a child 5 and under, please stop by the table to offer at least water or check on us as kids and their patience are very low. Luckily I fed my kids a light snack before dinner as they as well as their parents wouldn't
have been very happy campers. Our waitress made it up to us and was so nice and pleasant. My older daughter even commented and said 'mommy, she's so nice even though she looks stressed and so busy!' We'll be back despite the long wait to get some service and our order in.
Their open table reservation system does not prioritize your reservation even if you place it weeks in advance. There were open tables with ocean views with no one there. We were led to a table in a room with poor ventilation. The appetizer course arrived timely, then we had to wait about 40 minutes for our main course to arrive. My dish was unevenly cooked and I didn't eat some of it. We were in no mood to order drinks or dessert and decided to spend out money elsewhere. More than one staff shared that the owners seem to lack concern about the quality of the customer experience. This was a thoroughly disappointing experience.
Showed up for reservation
No tables available in patio or main seating area
Tried to place us in an area that was locked and host brought us in thru a side entrance
Waited 5 minutes for waiter but no one showed up and we walked out
The worst experience I’ve ever encountered
Excellent from beginning to end. Our waitress, the Bandita Bonita, key us topped up on food, drink, and funnies. It was a wonderful night!
We were served by Andrea and she gave excellent service! The food was good quality and tasty.
We made our reservation earlier that day, and were seated as soon as we arrived. We sat on the patio area overlooking the ocean. From the view to the food, it was an outstanding experience.
Beautiful setting in Avila Beach on promenade. Good for people watching and the only distraction was the live music from the wine bar next door. They take reservations which is a big plus for us.
Beautiful day - wonderful service - great greeting with Open Table Reservation and most delicious food and drink. Can't wait to go back.
Our entire experience was AMAZING. The staff was so friendly and accommodating. We definitely felt take care of and enjoyed being next to the water. The food and wine was amazing, would definitely recommend.
Beautiful location. Food was mediocre and service was subpar. Go for the location.
The manager was so awesome accommodating our late arrival, dealing with our indecisiveness but the food and service was impeccable! The sea bass was delicious! The atmosphere is fantastic!
A really great experience. Great food and service. Beautiful surroundings.
Thanks so much!
I have a friend about to leave town, and Blue Moon was on her bucket list - in particular the escargot which we both have loved on previous visits. Oh dear - what has happened there? We arrived early for our 11:30 reservation and were told that they did not have the French onion soup which we also were planning to have. This is one of the Moon's specialties, so it should have tipped us off that something was awry in the kitchen. Our waitress was very nice although quite busy, as it was the start of the Memorial Day weekend. Anyway, the escargot arrived, and it was nothing like what we have had at other times. This was dry, over-cooked, with hardly any blue cheese or garlic or "juice" to sop up! It wasn't "ugh", but I didn't like paying full bore for a poor meal.
Nice lunch spot in a beautiful location
Great wine selection & help with the decision! Delicious dinners!! Yummy desserts!!
Very nice fire table ambiance!!
Weather on the coast was perfect. This restaurant is delightful. It is very charming. The food selection is excellent. I had a garden salad , my spouse had the French onion soup. We shared a lobster roll. All was delicious and nicely presented. Our waiter Quinn was perfect. I highly recommend this restaurant!
Are there two nights in a row in mid-May while vacationing in Avila. Loved sitting in the bistro chairs while being warmed by patio heaters. The view of the ocean and the people watching are wonderful.
The wild mushroom ravioli was a generous portion with a good mix of wild mushrooms and toothsome pasta. Strips of chicken breast were perched on top. 4 of 5 stars there.
The second night we had the wag tu hanger steak special, and the meat was the most succulent, tender meat I’ve had in years. It was served with its jus and some gorgeous wild mushroom, fresh asparagus, tasty potatoes, all beautifully plated. A solid 5/5, and almost a 6/5 with the excellent Opolo zinfandel.
The kale salad was the only disappointment, read better than it tasted, 3/5.
Service was quite good night one, but our waiter Drew on night two was even better: personable, efficient, and happy to make recommendations.
Beautiful setting overlooking the ocean. Onion soup and salad very good but mushroom ravioli was sticky and mushy with very little flavor. For the price it should have been much better. Our server Angela was great!
During the COVID duration it is obvious help is hard to find. Our waitress Angela J was spectacular but she had to receive people then wait tables inside and out. 4 other employees were less than stellar. Both water and white wine were room temperature. Ravioli was very good but pieces of chicken dry. Hal it very flavorful but overcooked.
We loved it so much we went 2 days in a row!
Excellent meal, top notch server
I had the Kobe hanger steak and asked for the peppercorn sauce......amazing meal!
we have a big group of 13 people, and be able to get in a room all for us just like a private room. our servers were great and friendly, refilling our water and checking on us often.
the cheese plate was great, the bubbling brie was tasty, basket of French baguette was refilling endlessly. Escargot was delicious. The clam chowder had lots of clams and tasty adding with the sear salmon salad are a perfect pair for lunch with a glass of sparkling wine. we had a fun and great experience at this restaurant.
Thank you for making our Sunday with overcast weather became perfect
It was absolutely amazing! The waitstaff was wonderful, and there were so many options to choose from. Great special dinner for meeting up with family. Food was great! Ambiance was wonderful.
We made a "standard" vs "outside" reservation, wanting to eat inside because we knew it would be a chilly night. Not only did they seat us outside, but they didn't seat us at a real table. They seated us at a kind of bar that didn't appear to be used for eating normally. We were facing the ocean and blasted by the chilly wind. The actual server was good, but this seating arrangement was terrible. The server was trying to get us a table inside, and apparently was successful but only after we had started eating our meal, which was rapidly getting chilled by the blast of ocean air. I can't imagine why they seated us there - no one else was at this short bar, everyone else was at a table under heaters. We had a heater next to us, which helped somewhat, but the wind from the ocean was irritating my wife's eyes. I want to repeat that the server was attentive and excellent, but the host's decision to seat us where he did ruined the experience. Even worse, we saw that there were empty tables where we might have been seated.
Amazing service, food and view of the Pacific Ocean
