The BLUE MERMAID ISLAND GRILL has served unique and delicious cuisine inspired by the flavors of the Caribbean to Portsmouth NH locals and visitors since 1994. Our menu features favorites like Jamaican Jerk Chicken, Guava-braised Short Ribs, New World Paella and Island Shrimp Pad Thai, along with many options for soup, salad, sandwiches and burgers, small plates and grilled seafood. We have eaten here before and had an excellent meal. This time the short ribs were cooked a little under and didn't fall off the bone like before, they also had a lot of fat on them and not much meat. The atmosphere is always fun there.

We were greeted warmly by the hostess and led up a cool spiral staircase to our table, where our enthusiastic and effervescent server engaged us in conversation. Our meals were hot and delicious, and the food was tasty and a great value. We'll surely be back!

Great service and food. Good spot for casual brunch or dinner. Had brunch on Mother's Day and had a great time.

We had a really bad experience. The manager had no idea that we had a reservation. We asked to sit outside which was full so the waitress/manager said she would move us there when a table opened. We had to ask to move bc we saw the table was open. We order our food to be told that there were no ripe avocados, which was fine but then we were told they also didn't have any bacon or tomato... my husband and I both ordered the salmon sandwich with avocado, bacon, tomato obviously wasn't going to work and my sons bacon burger wasn't going to work either...never did the waitress offer a discount or anything..then we see a sign that says kids eat free on Sundays...this was Easter, but she said not today because it's a holiday (wasn't on the sign)...just felt like the service kind of stunk...They comped our food and drinks but honestly wouldn't go back...if our server was just a server it would have been one thing, but being the manager we would have expected better service...sorry I hate to leave bad reviews but been in the business and was just very disappointed:(

We went their for my wife's birthday because we love that place. We had our first date dinner there. We were a little disappointed: - they ran out of scallops and we came just for that - they ran out of the crème brûlée, the one we wanted - the waitress spent more time chatting with her friend who were having dinner at the table close to us than checking on us. Food was good though.

Food ok, not as "Caribbean" as we thought. Portion size very small. Somewhat pricey. Service not good at our table since waitress was busy. Had to ask for our complementary before-dinner chips & salsa. Drinks were good...decorations nice....but probably wouldn't go back.....

I came for brunch. We both had salmon, which was delicious. It came with a sweet potato and chickpea side.

Unfortunately this restaurant was not delicious. Staff was certainly friendly and attentive, but the food just was not tasty (nor in any way authentic)
