Blue Marlin Ratings and Reviews
We had been there once before and thought the food was average but decided to give it another try. Based on feedback from friends. The gumbo didn’t have a lot of flavor. The crab cake had a fishy taste, was too firm and had a lot of filler. Probably won’t go back.
Our waitress was awesome and was hustling because it was a very busy game day. As for the food, I think it's a bit over rated. The green beans were tough and the mahi dish I ordered had too much pepper. I'm not even sure it was suppose to be peppery. My son's filet was cooked perfectly. And my husband enjoyed the shrimp and grits but he wouldn't call it award winning, as they do. Overall good experience. Not sure if return as there are other great restaurants in the Vista of Columbia
Had a group of friends from Mizzou in town and they LOVED it! Highly recommend and our server was excellent (can't remember his name but a USC student in engineering), attentive but not over bearing, friendly and fun, made thoughtful recommendations and was very patient as people decided what they wanted.
Disappointing and I assume it was “just one of those days” as historically they are known for their excellence in food. I started our meal with the she crab soup that had multiple pieces of shell in it, luke warm and tasted and appeared as if someone placed the inside of a biscuit into it to thicken it. I followed this with the evenings seafood special, fish, that was dry with also little flavor. The mashed potatoes had the consistency of an instant product. My daughter, who I dined with, had a salad that appeared to be delicious. Our server, like many there, was a college student with little knowledge or experience. Maybe one day I’ll venture back with hopes for a better meal however with so many other choices, not sure how soon that’ll be.
Oh my! The food was delicious! The wait staff was friendly and attentive. The service was quick, but not rushed. All in all, a perfect evening. Afterwards, while walking under the awnings and walkways , it was nice to be able to read about the history the Blue Marlin.
Very friendly and attentive staff. Was very loud on the night we dined, was not quite expecting that as we are older and prefer a quieter, more romantic ambiance. The food was excellent, however I would recommend a few more wine selections, especially in lower price range. There are many great wines in the $20 - $ 30 range.
Our waiter, Ben, was fantastic!! We had my mothers 85 birthday party there. So FUN!! She loved it and we did , too. I am a transplanted Southerner (live now in Miami, Florida) so the Southern food was so good!! We had the appetizer medley- pimento cheese, fried green tomatoes, spicy shrimp-All good! Mom and her friend ( we celebrated his 93 birthday too!) had she crab soup which they both loved..
This gem is located just a few blocks from the beautiful capitol building . Metered parking right outside . Comfortable booths or tables . Beautiful interior. Waiter was friendly and attentive . She crab soup was exceptional. Fish prepared and served timely. Don’t miss this great place !
Food and service were great. This was a birthday celebration and it was on my reservation and when the restaurant called that afternoon to confirm my reservation I reminded them of the birthday celebration. Our waitress was never told. Very poor communication. Also, at a restaurant like the Blue Marlin the manager should be coming around checking on the guests to see how their meal is going. We saw no manager.
Went to Blue Marlin following a morning worship service. Service ended early and reservations were kindly updated for our early arrival. Service and food were outstanding from start to finish. Waiter recommendation for the day was scrumptious. Highly recommend.
We love eating at Blue Marlin, moved from the Midwest we tried shrimp and grits here and don't know how we lived with out this wonderful dish. We have tried many others throughout SC and Blue Marlin is still the best!!! Tried a new dish Friday and were so disappointed extremely salty and our server didn't seemed to care to ask if we needed anything! But don't let this stop you from visiting this outstanding restaurant food is wonderful.
Nice setting, I think it was a train station back in the day. Had lunch there and I have to say my food was pretty average. I had the crab cake salad. Too much filler in crab cake. Place was packed and fairly loud. It was my first time in Columbia. If I go back I’ll probably try somewhere else.
My friends and I had a great experience at the restaurant. We all got the "seafood platter" which included shrimp, crabcake and one piece of fish. Everything was good except for the fish. The fish was fried well like I like, but however it was not seasoned well. But as for that "shrimp", oh my it has been the best fried shrimp I have had and it did not have the aftertaste like the sea. The crabcake was too die for, it was really good.
Usually a winner, I was a bit disappointed this time as I ordered the Salmon Ponchartrain. The salmon IMHO was overdone, so it was a bit dry. I ordered it medium rare and I think it was over cooked by 5 minutes from that. But, I’ll go back... usually a great meal.
