Stretching from Savannah to the South, and Georgetown to the North, the Low Country is resplendent with the bounties of the sea and coastal marshlands. Succulent shrimp, oysters, crabs, crawfish and catfish abound. Lush greens, corn, rice and ripe red tomatoes are plentiful. Low Country cuisine brings all of this food together in a sumptuous array of unique and distinctive dishes.
We've been to The Blue Marlin several times & never been disappointed. The She-Crab soup alone is worth the trip. We had a fabulous dinner and thought the price at the end of the day represented a great value.
First disappointment after many visits here. Two of the 3 appetizers came out together; we had to ask for the last one to be brought. My crab cake appetizer was still cold in the center. Then my entrée, Jerk Salmon (which was the special), was raw. Not just slightly undercooked - raw like the tuna steak my husband ordered. Sent it back and the *same exact piece of fish* was brought back to me (based on the pattern on the ends of the filet it was obvious to be the same one, in addition the sides appeared to also be the same as before). So I did not get a new plate, simply one that had been rewarmed - microwaved, I believe. The green beans were now over cooked (limp & dull in color), the roasted potatoes soggy & barely any of the pineapple salsa fish topping. Half-way into the reheated salmon, the center was STILL RAW. The waitress apologized, but never offered anything to make up for all this... No free dessert, nothing comp'd, no discount, not even for us to speak to the manager. Very dissatisfied for my $40. Today was certainly not what I have come to expect from the Blue Marlin.
Great shrimp and grits!
Second time we have eaten here. Both times we went over our usual "eat out" budget. Both times about the same over all. Calamari is excellent and within the expected price range. My wife was extremely happy with her order and the she crab soup. My steak had a great flavor but was about as tough as I have ever eaten. I did not finish it but took it home and ate it the next day. Beans and potatoes were great but I expected more than four bites of the potatoes. Sad that you only have pepsi products. Tea was good. Definitely over priced but if you are out to impress someone it's a decent place. I'm sure we'll eat there again but maybe just lunch. The young lady that waited on us did a fine job. Our order took a few extra minutes to come out and she apologized 3 times for that. Still, it wasn't that long a wait. My wife enjoyed her birthday dinner and I thank you for that.
Great food Great service as usual!!
We went to The Blue Marlin to celebrate our one year anniversary and we both enjoyed the food, the service and the atmosphere of the restaurant. We would go back again and we’ve told our friends about our excience and they were interested in going too!
One more great meal at Blue Marlin! They serve the best shrimp and grits in town and the salmon is wonderful....also found the scallops to be very tasty and we will be back.
Good food great service!
This restaurant is in a great location. The area is historic and the building was originally part of the railway station. There are many other bars and restaurants nearby. The service was first class, but the food was nothing special. Maybe I just picked the wrong item off the menu, every restaurant has some dishes they do well, you just have to find them.
I went to Blue Marlin years ago and thought then that it was mediocre but I decided to invite my family out for a going-away get-together, looking forward to seafood. We made reservations so we were seated immediately. The waitress was very attentive. The bread was delicious, as I remembered. I ordered salmon with grits and green beans. Everyone else had the crabcakes, firecracker flounder and gumbo. My salmon was great, very tender and cooked just right. The grits were uniquely served in the size and shape of a hockey puck. They were dry and absolutely tasteless. I had to add a lot of butter, salt and pepper to finish half of one then gave up. And while I love a crunch green bean, they came to me as if out of a steam bag that you find at the grocery store and microwaved for about 30 seconds then dumped on the plate. No salt, no pepper, no citrus, no nothing. They were almost raw, very chewy and the strings were intact. This meal was definitely not worth the money and I'll not be returning again. I heard the firecracker flounder was good and the crabcakes looked worthy. I was disappointed with the experience and hope it was just a bad day.
We were seated promptly from our reservation. The staff were very friendly,
Swordfish special was great! Crab cakes were very weak; mostly breadcrumbs.
Overall - a good experience.
Great food & service !.
Our recent visit was a combination of Father's Day and Friend get together. As always, with a reservation, we were seated promptly and the waiter was at our table getting our drink order together. I always go because of the bowl of collard greens they will bring to your table upon request. But we had some order steak, some order chicken, and some order seafood. No one left hungry that's for sure. This is such a great place for any group to get together and enjoy good company, good food and excellent service.
Blue Marlin is hands down the greatest seafood restaurant in Columbia, SC. We go here very often and we've never been disappointed. The friendly staff, upscale ambiance, delicious entrees. You can't go wrong.
Even though it was Fathers Day and very busy... the service was great and food was served in a very short time. The food was fantastic and the prices were amazing. We live in Charleston, SC and a meal like we had would be twice the price at home. Great time had by all... Thanks!
Great service and atmosphere. The menu options are not very creative. I had the Mahi Orleans and was disappointed. The combination was quite bland.
The Waiter rushed us the moment that we sat down. Dinner and wine was brought together; did not appreciate the waiter’s repeated question- Are you ready to order?
The quality of the food was excellent as always!!!
Great dinner, as always. Blue Marlin’s gumbo is the best I’ve ever had outside of New Orleans and never disappoints! The Parmesan encrusted grouper was excellent as was the Firecracker shrimp! We’ll be back soon!
Was there celebrating our Granddaughters 16th Birthday. Of all the fine dining restaurants she chose the Blue Marlin and we were not disappointed. Thank you for a great evening.
The Blair Family
Great restaurant! My wife and I had heard of this place from others in the city. It was described as upscale so we decided to try it out for a special occasion. We were surprised to find out that though the service and food were upscale, the prices were not bad. Dinner ranges from $15-30 (as of 2018), with many options in the $16-22 range, and the food portions were good sized. That's not too bad for a dinner menu item considering that that the menu is predominantly seafood. Driving up the average price is the lack of cheaper sandwich and burger options. We will definitely be going back, and not just for special occasions.
I was pleased with the fast and pleasant service. When I received my confirmation call for the reservation I asked how long did she think we would be there for dinner. I asked this because we were coming in town for a comedy show that started at 10 and wanted to make sure we were on time she confirmed we would be in for no more than an hr and no wait on the table whatsoever being that we had a confirmed reservation. The service and dinner was great we made it out in 54 mins I will continue to come back every I'm in Columbia
Our waiter was amazing. The calamari was so good. I was celebrating my birthday. Glad I chose this restaurant.
The food and service were excellent. There was a high noise level.
The service was great. But the food was just subpar. Unfortunately the crabcakes were probably the worst I have ever had. One side was well overdone - almost burnt. And both sides tasted like they were grilled on a flattop that had not been cleaned in years. The flounder was nice. And the shrimp were well cooked.
The bread they brought out was nice and soft and hot with very delicate crust. I'd go just for the bread! :)
I'm not sure if it was just the time of day we went, but it seemed particularly noisy for a fine dining seafood/steak establishment.
Overall we enjoyed our meals and left full. But I don't believe i would go back. Nor would i recommend my colleagues eat there when we are traveling in that area each month.
Service was good. Most of us had steak. We had to send one back that was supposed to be medium rare and it was very rare but other than that the steaks were very good. Salads and appetizers and of course the crime brûlée cheesecake is the best.
Overall experience was great, but there were issues with flies. Could not enjoy meal.
We got seated at a nice booth. We split two appetizers, scallops and calamari. Both were very good. We tried some signature cocktails and all enjoyed our individual meals. Definitely would go back.
Blue Marlin was a treat. A warm welcoming décor and comfortable seating. The food portions are the real value here - so much food we weren't able to finish either the appetizer or the entrée. The quality of the food was excellent. Service was attentive. A few minor glitches to the overall meal (had to send a drink back because bartender forgot to add all the ingredients before server picked it up, one shrimp in the shrimp & grits wasn't completely shelled), but overall a very nice experience. I'd recommend and would return.
Excellent service! Jarvis was the best!
Excellent overall experience.
Nice family style atmosphere without a lot of noise. Great location and convenient to many shops downtown. Service is quick and food is good. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone for any occasion.
Food was excellent; atmosphere was very good. Wait staff was well trained - our server was training and we would have never known if we had not been told.
The salmon pontchartrain was outstanding
Food is always good, & our waiter was great-very enthusiastic! Only negative was sitting by the bathroom!
The food and service was good. Probably one of the better restaurants in Columbia.
My partner and I really enjoyed our 1st time dining here for our 1 year anniversary. The people were friendly and he food was absolutely delicious! The atmosphere was pleasant and quiet.
Great food and overall experience
We were looking for low country cuisine and I do believe we found it! Fun to experience for this Iowa girl.
The hamburger was terrible an inedible. More like loose beef and gooey. My wife ha crab cakes and she crab soup and Wes delighted. Learn how to make a burger for lunch.
The shrimp and grits was good but I normally like it a bit more creamy. The Mahi was good too but the crab meat topping had shell pieces in it hard to enjoy. The service and the atmosphere was great.
