Great service and food
I always enjoy coming to the Blue Marlin. The food is wonderful. I especially like the shrimp and grits and the shrimp creole, but everything that I have had has been great. Absolutely my favorite restaurant in Columbia.
Our server was amazing! The hostess was incredibly friendly.
The food was delicious and the service was great. It was a little loud so I would not recommend if you are looking for a quiet place to dine.
The food was excellent. The grits were great and I am picky about my Grits! The moscow mule menu is awesome. Please try the Blueberry Mule. It will not disappoint. They also have a good kids menu. The food was awesome. They take reservations so I made them before attending a concert and it was within walking distance to the colonial life center. Great food and atmosphere.
This is a very nice restaurant. The food is delicious and they give you large portions. If you are from Maryland or Virginia, do not order the crabcakes. They are not what we are accustomed to and you will be disappointed. Parking is difficult.
The crab dip was cold and needed to be reheated. One order needed to be sent back due to inclusion of shrimp when they were asked not to be included. The salmon tariaki was ordered Medrare and came raw. Service was great however. Was disappointed in general.
Great food but very loud! Our server was fantastic.
We had a wonderful experience at Blue Marlin. We have enjoyed eating there for many years. Everything was excellent except for the hostess, who was not too friendly. She was unwilling to try to work out seating more people with us....we had a reservation but ran in to some family there. We understand if it cannot be done, but at least try. Our waitress, Natalie, was very good and sweet. Thank you!
We had saturday dinner and restaurant was full and therefore I would recommend reservation. Service was excellent and food was very good and well prepared.
Able to make reservations ! The food is always great, service was good. We're able to find parking, enjoy dinner and still get to our play on time! The fried shrimp were yummy! Looking forward to our next visit!
Great food and service!
Blue Marlin continues to be one of our favorite downtown places to dine. It is just enough upscale to not be too stuffy and the food is always great. We have taken several guests to dine and always have had a great time.
I had an amazing time celebrating my birthday at Blue Marlin. The food was amazing, especially the Firecracker Shrimp and the Gumbo. We will be back again.
Service was poor and the instructions for preparation were not relayed to the kitchen, resulting in burnt steak. Disappointing experience.
Great food and service
This was not a good night at Blue Marlin.
We are long time diners of this restaurant.
We look forward to occasions when we can celebrate with good food and cheer.
my filet special was not what I received. It was sent back and arrived after my husband and daughter had finished their meals. My daughter had a shrimp on her plate that had not been
As this was in a sauce on top of salmon, it took her by surprise.
All restaurants have off evenings/days. We understand this.
I think if we had not made reservations and indicated that it was a birthday celebration, it might
not be as big a deal.
The birthday was not addressed and our waiter had a very busy section. The misfire of food, combined with the rush rush atmosphere was not the experience we had hoped for...
Will give Blue Marlin another chance, but were very disappointed and would have loved to have been reassured by someone, anyone...that a better effort would be made, or there was some remorse about the ruined meal/occasion.
Excellent food and the service was perfect, nice atmosphere, great location. Highly recommend
I’m giving Blue Marlin 3 stars because it’s usuallt great. Today when our party went in for lunch. It was not so great. Which is unusual for BM. It’s my favorite place to eat. We drove 2 hours to meet our daughter for lunch. My chicken pasta was not good. The pasta tasted like it had been over cooked and resembled a glue texture. Maybe sticky? Regardless it was over cooked and had been sitting in a dish for an extended period of time. My daughter had to send her she crab soup back, my husbands oysters were not very good either. I didn’t say anything to the waiter about my dish and neither did my husband because we wanted our lunch to be perfect for her. Considering she too drive 2 hours to meet us at BM. I sure hope they improve whatever was going on in the kitchen today. Maybe a new cook?
We were in Columbia for the weekend visiting from Charleston. I was looking for an upscale restaurant with great seafood to take my boyfriend for a special occasion. I was told by numerous people Blue Marlin was the place to go, unfortunately I was very disappointed. We had reservations for a Saturday evening at 9pm. After we were sat it took our server about 10 minutes to greet us. When she did arrive at our table she was very brief, she didn’t ask if we had been there before, she didn’t describe the menu or tell us about specials. We ordered drinks and an appetizer because we were starving. She didn’t come back to our table with drinks until after our appetizer arrived. We had the calamari which was very chewy and the breading fell off every time you tried to pick up a piece with your fork. The appetizer plates sat on the table through the rest of our meal until a manager cleared our plates at the end. The salmon I ordered was good however the green beans were unseasoned and bland and the grit cake was very small. My boyfriend’s meal was good however the rice had teeny pieces of bacon in it that are almost undetectable which sucks for someone who doesn’t eat pork and wasn’t warned it contained pork. I also thought it was going to be fancier then it was, we were over dressed for the establishment compared to the rest of the customers. I wouldn’t go back to the Blue Marlin on my own accord.
Great spot. BLT salad was spot on and the shrimp and grits we're amazing.
As always, the food was delicious and the service was excellent. The noise level in the restaurant however was excessive. Compounding the problem was the fact that a table for 6 was squeezed in next to our table and we were on a corner in a walking path. We had made reservations days ahead but still got the poorest seat in the restaurant even though better tables and booths were empty when we arrived on time for our reservation. Next time, I will decline that table if offered again!
We were in town for a conference and needed a menu that could accommodate diverse tastes and portion sizes. Several in our group ordered the sesame grilled ahi tuna-- each one was done to perfection ! Our server made great recommendations, and was attentive. The atmosphere is fun and lively !
Food was marginal . The seafood was very oily and the steak was almost not edible. Service was bad. Had to wave dow watress just to get refill on water that had been empty for over 15 miniutes.
Nice dinner and great service. We enjoyed it and would go back.
Devon was amazing best server I’ve ever had
Entry steps are not safe for handicapped. Would have liked handicap ramp!
Sunday brunch at Blue Marlin is always a treat. If the weather is nice, ask to sit outside. Much quieter than inside.
I took my wfe here. Because she loves seafood , so I made it our Valentine's date dinner. But VERY DISAPPOINTED for the service there. First, after we were seated Our waitness came 15mins later. We got a drinks 10 mins after requested water. Our waitness cater more to the table after us. Not asking us we needed anything else. I need more water and never got it. Just NOT A GOOD experience from BLUE MARLIN. The servers need to work together It makes the environment better for the customers and the servers and the kitchen as a WHOLE.
It was very easy to make a reservation but parking was very challenging. The service was good but a bit slow. Good was great and the lemon drop was excellent!
Tried Blue Marlin for first time. Made reservation on Open Table and was glad we did based on the crowd and wait. Seated immediately in nice booth by window. Server was very helpful and had good recommendations regarding menu. We ordered the crab cake and it did not disappoint. We ordered steak and seafood mains. We ordered the steak medium and it came out jerky well done. Both server and manager immediately rectified and offered a salad to fill the timr it took to correct the order. The manager stood at the kitchen and made sure the correction was top priority. We enjoyed speaking with him after he delivered a perfectly prepared medium steak. It was very refreshing to receive the type of service so lacking everywhere today. We highly recommend Blue Marlin to anyone dining out in Columbia. Only wish they would have shared that a house secret is unlimited collard greens. We swapped out mashed potatoes for them on one entree. We are not from the South but can share we have been to plenty of authentic Southern restaurants and none prepare greens like Blue Marlin. Worthy of a meal all by themselves.
First time visiting this restaurant. Drove from Charlotte to celebrate a birthday and I was impressed. Our waiter, Tremaine, was superb! Surely will visit again if I’m ever back in Columbia.
Excellent food! The service was even better! Great experience, upset I haven’t came here sooner.
Chicken special tonight should be added to menu. Had steaks last two times, ribeye and strip, both were disappointing. Come regularly, but won't order steak again.
Excellent, attentive staff. Delicious food...when we arrived (had a reservation) we were seated at a table near the bar. I'm a big man and it was a little bit of a tight fit. Our waitress immediately took notice and re-seated us- much better! REALLY appreciated it. A+ experience...one small quibble. Our wine was delicious- $8 a glass....fair price, I thought, for so tasty a wine. I decided to research it because we were thinking of buying a bottle for home...$10 a bottle. Come on now.... :)
Blue Marlin was an excellent choice for Valentine’s Day. The atmosphere was nice, the waiter was very helpful, and the food tasted amazing. I even received a beautiful carnation. The only down side to the night was this very loud obnoxious woman laughing a few tables away.
We've been to Blue Marlin on many occasions and we've never been disappointed. It's a beautiful restaurant with absolutely delicious food. Our office has had our holiday lunch in the Vista Room and the food and the service has always been wonderful.
The last time my husband and I were there for lunch during the week and it was pretty loud. But I don't think you can help those few people who are just loud talkers.
Went there for Valentine’s Day. Server was excellent. Food came soon and was tasty. I would recommend this restaurant.
Mashed potatoes were cold
