Blue Marlin Ratings and Reviews
We celebrated my husbands birthday. Shared a generous cup of delicious she crab soup and an excellent Caesar salad. The waitress even found anchovies for my husband. I had amazing teriyaki salmon, garlic mashed potatoes and really yummy Brussel sprouts. We shared crime brûlée cheese cake which was on the House. The service was excellent. Overall a great experience. Cannot wait to return.
Food was simply amazing... the appetizer special (pimento cheese, fried green tomatoes, fried shrimp, and crab cakes) was a highlight of their classics, the seafood gumbo is perfectly seasoned, thick and creamy... the Blackened Salmon Pontchartrain is a must!! The standard for fine dining in the Vista!!
As usual the Blue Marlin delivered on service efficiency, food quality and speed of service. In fact, our party of three were served a bit quicker than we wanted. But that beats having to wait. I suspect our order was hurried through the kitchen in anticipation of the orders from a huge party seated near us after we arrived. Also the noise level was a little high but boisterous . ‘‘Tis the season”
We were sat next to the absolute LOUDEST TABLE who would not stop cackling the entire time. The entire restaurant was staring and making faces at the table yet the staff did nothing. The food was not as good as I expected it to be and we had to ask for a waitress...... Not the service I was expecting....
Great ambiance with awesome service. Only downside were the parking meters. I'm not from Columbia, so I was a little surprised Columbia still has pay to park parking meters. Fortunately there is an app on the parking meter that allows you pay with a credit card. Other than that issue, it was a great experience.
The food is always exceptional, especially the bread and collard greens! The last visit on December 2nd was great except for a few minor details. The cocktail-Bloody Mary-was screwed up..when u ask for less ice and more Bloody Mary mix, that doesn't mean more ice and a 8oz glass-normally 12oz. also, what is up with the 10% food tax. Every visit changes from 6-7% to 10%. Bill came up to $44.00 and tax was $4.39. That part definitely needs to be addressed and corrected.
We went here to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The food was great but the customer service blew s away! Our server was great and went above and beyond to make sure everything flowed smoothly. This was our first time dining here and we will definitely be going back.
We had been there once before and thought the food was average but decided to give it another try. Based on feedback from friends. The gumbo didn’t have a lot of flavor. The crab cake had a fishy taste, was too firm and had a lot of filler. Probably won’t go back.
Our waitress was awesome and was hustling because it was a very busy game day. As for the food, I think it's a bit over rated. The green beans were tough and the mahi dish I ordered had too much pepper. I'm not even sure it was suppose to be peppery. My son's filet was cooked perfectly. And my husband enjoyed the shrimp and grits but he wouldn't call it award winning, as they do. Overall good experience. Not sure if return as there are other great restaurants in the Vista of Columbia
Had a group of friends from Mizzou in town and they LOVED it! Highly recommend and our server was excellent (can't remember his name but a USC student in engineering), attentive but not over bearing, friendly and fun, made thoughtful recommendations and was very patient as people decided what they wanted.
Disappointing and I assume it was “just one of those days” as historically they are known for their excellence in food. I started our meal with the she crab soup that had multiple pieces of shell in it, luke warm and tasted and appeared as if someone placed the inside of a biscuit into it to thicken it. I followed this with the evenings seafood special, fish, that was dry with also little flavor. The mashed potatoes had the consistency of an instant product. My daughter, who I dined with, had a salad that appeared to be delicious. Our server, like many there, was a college student with little knowledge or experience. Maybe one day I’ll venture back with hopes for a better meal however with so many other choices, not sure how soon that’ll be.
Oh my! The food was delicious! The wait staff was friendly and attentive. The service was quick, but not rushed. All in all, a perfect evening. Afterwards, while walking under the awnings and walkways , it was nice to be able to read about the history the Blue Marlin.
Very friendly and attentive staff. Was very loud on the night we dined, was not quite expecting that as we are older and prefer a quieter, more romantic ambiance. The food was excellent, however I would recommend a few more wine selections, especially in lower price range. There are many great wines in the $20 - $ 30 range.
Our waiter, Ben, was fantastic!! We had my mothers 85 birthday party there. So FUN!! She loved it and we did , too. I am a transplanted Southerner (live now in Miami, Florida) so the Southern food was so good!! We had the appetizer medley- pimento cheese, fried green tomatoes, spicy shrimp-All good! Mom and her friend ( we celebrated his 93 birthday too!) had she crab soup which they both loved..
This gem is located just a few blocks from the beautiful capitol building . Metered parking right outside . Comfortable booths or tables . Beautiful interior. Waiter was friendly and attentive . She crab soup was exceptional. Fish prepared and served timely. Don’t miss this great place !
Food and service were great. This was a birthday celebration and it was on my reservation and when the restaurant called that afternoon to confirm my reservation I reminded them of the birthday celebration. Our waitress was never told. Very poor communication. Also, at a restaurant like the Blue Marlin the manager should be coming around checking on the guests to see how their meal is going. We saw no manager.
