Went for brunch. Food portions were too small
Thank you for sharing your experience with us, and we're thrilled you were able to enjoy our Sunday Brunch menu! Our menu is based on Shared Plates, so we generally recommend guests order 2-3 plates per person and share with the group. Perhaps our Chef's Improvisation menu would be of greater value to you and provide a fuller dining experience, if you join us for brunch again (or for our dinner service).
Service was Excellent. Food was Excellent. Entertainment was Excellent. Quite an interesting menu. Was suprised at the price of some of the small bites items.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us, Paul. We're ecstatic that you had an excellent visit with us. We source only the highest of quality ingredients, which can to impact the price of our more expensive dishes. For example, our Dry Aged Snake River Wagyu Sirloin is made with the highest quality of beef on the market. However, if you'd like to try a variety of plates, I suggest ordering from our Chef's Improvisation Menu for a more affordable, full dining experience.
Cocktails were wonderful!
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience, Karen! We're thrilled you were able to try a few of our craft cocktails. We hope to see you again soon!
As always, fabulous food, music and service. As always, more volume from fellow guests who find it necessary to be heard over the music.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us! We're thrilled you enjoyed our shared plates menu, live music, and customer service. We apologize for the guests who may have disrupted your full listening experience. If this happens again, please let one of our staff know and we'll be sure to remind them to be mindful of those around them. However, we do want our guests to feel free to have conversations and enjoy our restaurant side of our venue as well as our live music.
Great food, service and music.
We're thrilled that we could give you a 5-star experience! We hope to provide that same level of excellence with each and every visit!
Great music venue, not a bad seat in the house! Food was wonderful as well as wine list!
Will be back!
Thank you for sharing your experience with us! We're thrilled you enjoyed our full array of wine selections chosen from our sommeliers on staff, and our American Shared Plates menu. We look forward to seeing you again soon!
Wonderful jazz club with superb food, service, and music!
Thank you for the kind words, Marvin! We're thrilled you thoroughly enjoyed our full dining and listening venue! We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Went expecting jazz band but instead it was a Mediterranean folk band. The place is beautiful but the prices were so over priced. The portion sizes very tiny and prices huge.
We apologize that our music programming wasn't what you expected that evening. You can find the full listings of our upcoming entertainment on our website. Our portions are based on our concept of shared plates. We suggest 2-3 plates per person, or you can try our Chef's Improvisation Menu for a full coursed dinner experience. You may find that gives you the most quantity of food and best value. We hope to see you again soon!
My husband and I were visiting Ann Arbor and heard about this new jazz place. Love the name, the atmosphere and the jazz with no cover charge, but the food was super disappointing! We’ve been to many gourmet restaurants and totally get that the portions tend to be small - trading quantity for creativity, flavor and art. But these portions were ridiculously small, making the dinner more like a scam than a gourmet meal. I’d rather pay a cover charge for the music than still be hungry after paying $120 plus tip for a meal. It’s shared plate style, which we usually love, but again, not the expected size even for sharing. The beets dish was particularly laughable. It was a salad plate of five beet slices that were so thin that when we picked them up with a fork, they scrunched together and fell apart. We could see through them they were so thin. What the hell was that? Why would a restaurant skimp on beets - it was the middle of summer and beets are not expensive. The three other dishes were not as small, but still smaller than the typical share portion, more expensive and not anything special in terms of taste or presentation. We looked around at some of the other tables, and people were having similar reactions to the portion sizes. The table next to us seemed genuinely baffled by their beet dish as we were. The wait staff was great, so we didn’t want to be rude, but I think they were well aware of people’s reactions, maybe that’s why they were being extra attentive, to make up for the food. Go there for the jazz and service, but eat a snack before you go or plan on after-dining at one of the many wonderful Ann Arbor restaurants that offer a much better value.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us! We're thrilled you enjoyed our atmosphere, service, and live jazz. We sincerely apologize if we didn't meet your expectations with our cuisine. Our Beet Carpaccio dish is intended to provide a refreshing start, but we recommend guests order 2-3 plates per person from our Shared Plates Menu and share with the group. Perhaps our Chef's Improvisation menu would be of greater value to you and provide a fuller dining experience, if you visit us again.
The staff was welcoming, the Klezmerphonic gig wonderful, and the food great. We also brought two friends who had never been to the club before, so hope you get two new patrons as a result.
Thank you for joining us last Saturday evening, and for bringing along two new faces into our venue! We're thrilled that you enjoyed our music programming and excellent American Shared Plates menu! We hope to see you again soon (and hopefully your friends as well)!
Great night out with good food and good music.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us! We're thrilled that you had a 5-star experience, and we hope to consistently provide that same level of excellence with each and every visit!
It was our anniversary. We had the tasting menu, a real value as well as delicious sampling of the restaurant’s small plates. The jazz quartet was terrific. The service helpful and attentive. We will go back for another night of music and food. The room is beautiful, ambiance of a jazz club with terrific acoustics. Lovely, intimate.
Thank you for the amazing feedback on your Blue LLama experience, and happy anniversary! We're honored to have you celebrate such an important moment in your life at our dining and listening venue. We look forward to serving you again soon!
Absolutely incredible cocktails. The portions are small but each one masterfully created and delicious.
Thank you for your feedback, Karen! We're thrilled that you loved our Love of Libations menu and our unique array of American Shared Plates! We hope to have you visit us again soon!
A great listening venue as long as people don't talk during the sets. The staff is very friendly and accommodating to your needs. The music is my main incentive for going to the Blue Llama. I like the fact that local musicians play there, and I know most of them. I think the food is on the pricey side. I do like the Sunday Brunch menu especially the French Toast. Didn't care for the Bloody Mary. Think that some of the ticketed events are on the pricey side. Would like the tips for the non ticketed events to go directly to the musicians who are performing that night. Happy to have a jazz club in Ann Arbor.
Thank you for your feedback! We're thrilled that you've been able to enjoy both our menus, as well as our live music! You are more than welcome to tip the band directly if you would like. However, our Suggested Entertainment Fee supports all our programming; allowing us to showcase the local and regional musicians that you've enjoyed seeing. We always appreciate the feedback we receive from our guests and we'll be sure to share your feedback with our team.
The food menu needs to be expanded and explained better. The portions are very small so trying to share is difficult. The concept of sharing is good but if there are 4 people the portions do not lend themselves to sharing unless you order 2 of everything. When the jazz group is taking its break between sets, the music system should be turned way down instead of up. This is a good time for table conversation but the background music is way too loud. It should also be made clear how to “tip” the band when there is no cover charge.
Thank you for your feedback. We apologize if our menu was not explained thoroughly. We recommend ordering 2-3 plates per person and sharing with the table. Our Chef's Improvisation Menu with a variety of plates and courses might be a more affordable and filling option. You are more than welcome to tip the band directly if you would like. Please feel free to let one of our staff know your concerns at any time, and we will do our best to improve your experience while you are with us.
The design is exceptional, not a bad seat in the whole place. The sound was even better, The acoustics make the sound fabulous! Overall a great venue!
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, John! We're thrilled that you enjoyed our entire dining and listening experience! Our world-renowned stage includes top notch acoustics and recording abilities to make our live music sound the best it possibly can! We hope to have you join us for brunch again soon! If interested, we also serve dinner Wednesday-Saturday 5-11 p.m. (with live music) and we'll be introducing brand new items to our menu this week!
Our first, and not the last, visit. Great food and entertainment, 4 Freshmen were fantastic, get them back ASAP. Hank Roysden
Thank you for joining us last Sunday for brunch and live music by the Four Freshmen! They really put on an excellent performance, and we're thrilled you were able to see them live on our stage! I'll be sure to share your comments with our Artistic Director. We hope to provide the same 5-star experience with each and every visit!
We went for the live jazz, enjoyed the intimate venue, and shared several delicious small plates with wine. We will definitely be back!
Thank you for joining us and taking the time to share your experience, Patricia! We're honored to have earned 5 stars, and we hope to provide that same level of excellence with each and every visit. We look forward to seeing you again soon!
Great food and jazz. All seats are good
Thank you for sharing in our Love of Music and Love of Food as much as we do! We're thrilled that you enjoyed our full dining and listening venue, and we hope to see you again soon!
We had so much fun! Like a trip to the big Apple. Great place to bring friends and out-of-town guests.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us, Cheryl! One of our goals when creating the Blue LLama was to bring the jazz and entertainment scene from the Big Apple to our small town of Ann Arbor. We're thrilled to have guests like you who value our full dining and listening experience, and we hope to continue providing excellent cuisine, service, and music with each and every visit.
We had a wonderful experience at Blue LLama. The food was exciting and delicious. The service was perfect. The music was unique and fun. We will certainly go back (often).
Thank you for sharing your experience with us, Nancy! We're honored to have such wonderful guests who truly value and appreciate the experience we are trying to bring to our Ann Arbor community. We look forward to seeing you again soon, and providing that same dining and listening experience with every visit.
Wonderful evening of excellent jazz in a stunningly beautiful environment with delicious food. The service was attentive and thoughtful. The food was absolutely delicious. The jazz musicians with the Janelle Reichman Quintet were each stellar. The volume is appropriately immersive without being deafening.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and give us feedback on your visit, Angel! We're thrilled that you were able to share in our Love of Food and Love of Music! We hope to see you again soon!
Great time listening to really good music in a fabulous cozy but elegant atmosphere. Simple menu of dishes with complex flavors. Attentive, sincere service. Will be back with friends!
My wife and I enjoyed this evening very much !! Our waiter was great !! The food was great !! The Paul Keller Quintet was great to listen to and their response to the power outage during the second set was really great. They changed the set list on the fly and moved some band members around to provide an acoustic performance for the remainder of the evening that was really wonderful !! I hope the Blue LLama has a long and successful run in Ann Arbor.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us, Stephen! The Paul Keller Quintet put on a fabulous performance, and even when the power was out, they managed to keep playing! The show must go on! We're thrilled that the power outage didn't dampen your evening, and we hope to provide an excellent dining and listening experience for you in the future (hopefully next time we will have our beautiful lights and ac in full swing)!
Delicious, unique, and beautifully presented entrees; good wine list; experienced and conscientious waitstaff; some awesome tunes from the Paul Keller Quintet. A great choice for Date Night. We will be back.
We're thrilled that you enjoyed our live music venue and delicious shared plates! Paul Keller always puts on an excellent performance at our club! We appreciate your feedback and we hope to provide this same level of service with each and every visit. We hope to see you again soon!
Great food & great jazz in Ann Arbor! Located next to The Ark on South Main, the Blue Llama is a welcome addition to the local food and music scene.
Thank you for your feedback, Theo! We're honored to have such a wonderful community that shares in our Love of Food and Love of Music as much as we do!
We went to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Every detail of our experience was superb: the welcoming from staff, service, the food, the ambiance, and the music. Thanks to the Chef and staff for making our celebration memorable. We can’t wait to go back!
We're honored that you chose our dining and listening venue to share in your special celebration! I'll be sure to pass your kind words to our team. We aspire to provide this same level of excellence with each and every service, and we hope you come back soon! We'll be introducing new items on our menu this week!
Excellent food. Very hard to hear the wait staff and order.
Thank you for sharing your experience , Roger. We apologize that our music was too loud for you to hear all of the wonderful details about our American Shared Plates menu. Our mission to the connect the Love of Food with the Love of Music, but we never want one to overpower the other. I'll be sure to share your comments with our team and we'll be more mindful of our acoustics moving forward.
Great food and live music but very expensive.
Thank you for dining with us and sharing your experience! We're thrilled that you enjoyed our unique cuisine. Our dishes are priced based on the high quality ingredients that are imported to help make our menu taste so delicious. However, we do have several items on our menu that are more reasonably priced like our Crispy Deviled Eggs, Blistered Shishito Peppers, Local Green Salad, and Red Beans & Ricely Cakes. We hope to see you again soon!
This is by far one of my favorite places. I've been twice and the service, food, and of course the music are phenomenal.
Thank you for visiting us again and taking the time to leave us such a wonderful review! We're thrilled that you share in our Love of Food and Love of Music, and we look forward to seeing you again soon!
Great: vibe, service, ambiance, food flavor, live music.
Poor: very expensive tapas plates, recorded music too loud for conversation between live sets,
Disappointing: "No Cover" advertised, yet "Entertainment Fee" sought on check at end of night.
Thank you for joining us and providing feedback. We apologize if our music was too loud for you to enjoy our full dining experience. Our mission is to connect the Love of Food and the Love of Music, but we never want one to be prioritized over the other. We are already working on how we communicate our Suggested Entertainment Fee, since people seem confused and don't realize it is appreciated so we can keep booking high caliber acts, but optional and never mandatory like a cover charge.
We were extremely pleased with our dining and listening experience at Blue Llama. Check in staff were so friendly and our wait staff was also very personable and attentive. Kitchen was very conscientious and accommodating regarding my food allergy and the food still wonderfully flavorful and tasty. Definitely a repeat visit is in order!
Thank you for sharing your experience with us! We're thrilled that you share in our Love of Food and Love of Music! Having many individuals on our team with food restrictions, we want to make sure every guest can enjoy our dining experience. That's why our entire staff is well versed in our menu and knowledgable in providing recommendations that accommodate those food restrictions. We look forward to seeing you again soon!
A really great place with a great vibe! Perfect for any size group. Music was great, service was great, food was very good thought not outstanding. I recommend the cheese plate!
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us, Janet! We're thrilled that you enjoyed our live music from the U of M Jazz Ambassadors High School All-Stars, our impeccable service, and delicious shared plates menu. I'm so glad you tried our Cheese Tasting with local honey and smoked frozen grapes! A dish that pairs well with our charcuterie and cheese plates are our Blistered Shishito Peppers - definitely worth trying when you visit us again!
Wonderful new Jazz venue. Gear ambiance
Thank you for sharing your experience with us!
Thank you for giving us such an incredible 5 star review! We hope to continue providing this level of excellence for each and every service.
We had a great experience at the Blue LLama. It was fun to listen to live music while dining. The food and service were also outstanding. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the dishes and served us at a nice pace so we could enjoy the music and the food. The raddish salad, gnocchi, cheese plate and whitefish were amongst our favorite dishes.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us! We're thrilled that you were able to try some of the top shared plates on our menu and see the Nick Mazarella Quintet live on our stage! The Yucca Gnocchi is a personal favorite of mine. I'd also recommend trying our Dry Aged Snake River Wagyu Sirloin during your next dinner visit. Did you know we're also open for Sunday brunch? From our brunch menu I'd recommend the French Toast and Southern Eggs Benedict. They're divine! We hope to see you soon!
Everything was just perfect for our anniversary dinner.
Food, music and a fantastic host and wait staff!
Tried to find out how they operated before showing up for my reservation but that proved impossible. Upon arriving for our 5:45 reservation we were curly informed we had the table until 7:45 and would have to leave after that. So the band didn't start until 7. So having spent over $100 on 3 drinks and 2 shared plates we only got to listen to one set of music. Too pricey, too contrived, very unfriendly vibe. I'll spend my entertainment dollars elsewhere.
Thank you for giving us feedback, Theodore. Generally we try to allow our guests enough time to enjoy the live music and full dinner service before preparing tables for the next reservation. We apologize if this was communicated in an unpleasant manner. We pride ourselves on having excellent customer service, but we apologize that you experienced something different. We will share your review with our team and make sure we take the proper measures to resolve this situation going forward.
Truly elevated food in a town where there is plenty of “premium mediocre” food. Ambiance was gorgeous and beautifully lit. Service was impeccable and sincerely enthusiastic. Music was top notch. I prefer my drinks stronger and less sweet, but that’s just me nitpicking to find a slight flaw. Along with Spencer, Taste Kitchen, and Pacific Rim, Blue Llama is among the best in town, and the best outside of Detroit.
WOW! What an amazing review and helpful feedback! Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We're thrilled that you enjoyed our live music, shared plates menu, and swanky interior! We have several craft cocktails on our menu that may be of interest to you during your next visit, but my personal favorite is the Electric Wizard, and let me tell you, that cocktail is stronger than you think! We're honored to have earned such an outstanding review and we hope to see you again soon!
Our visit was to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Our first encounter with, I think her name was Ashley, was very welcoming. She sat us at our table, went over each choice of sparkling water and the menu selection. She made recommendations on what to choose. We chose the lobster roll, strawberry pancakes, and Avocado, eggs and chorizo. The lobster roll was made with homemade bread which they toasted. It melted in my mouth. The bread was delicious and the filling was full of great taste. The strawberry pancakes with the berry foam was simply mouth watering. The avocado dish was delicious. We loved the band and the ambience. We have out of town guests coming and Blue Llama is on our list of places to visit.
Thank you for dining with us and taking the time to leave such a detailed review, Diana! That definitely sounds like Ashley, our Reservations Manager. We're thrilled that we could provide such a lovely experience for you, and congratulations on your wedding anniversary! We look forward to having you and your friends join us again soon. If you come from brunch again, I'd highly suggest starting with our Crispy Deviled Eggs. For dinner, I'd suggest the Diver Scallops. They're unbelievable.
