Blue Hill Tavern Ratings and Reviews
Typically a good experience. I thought our server was lacking in experience. She screwed up one of the meals. She'd been at Blue Hill for 3 months, but I am not sure she had a whole lot of experience before that.
The new menu is a good one. The food is consistently good.
Blue Hill Tavern shows the promise of very good local restaurant but fell a bit short. The room is pleasant and the wait staff were reasonably attentive. Wine list has some very nice options and is well priced. The menu has a number of attractive options and something for everyone. The food while good was nothing special. Given that we had two tables of 5 dining there was a good sampling of the menu. The sous vide meat options were apparently excellent, the appetizers a mixed bag, the vegetarian option fairly mediocre, and the deserts were solid. I would have probably gone 3.5 stars if that were an option. I’d give it second try to confirm but overall would say a solid good but not great.
As always, a great experience! We also noted in the reservation that it was a birthday, and our dessert was brought out with a candle so we could celebrate, but in a discreet way so the birthday boy was not embarrassed. The food and wine were in point, and the service was super attentive and helpful!
Overall a pleasant experience. The Mushroom Wellington was very tasty, the huge portion of slightly cooked carrots was way too much. The Caesar salad was delicious as well as the grilled squid. The scallops were pretty good too. Two member at the table shared the chateaubriand and enjoyed it very well. The butternut squash soup was way too sweet, more like a dessert. We had a delicious wine too. The chocolate mousse was terrible. Where was the chocolate? We ordered one serving to split among 4 of us and did not finish it.
We had a large party of 15 for a Birthday brunch at the Blue Hill Tavern. Almost everyone in the party was from out of town. The waiter was friendly and accommodating. The food was exceptional. We had a private area upstairs in the restaurant. They offered bottomless mimosas and bloody marys for a set price with the meal. Since it was a birthday celebration we brought in a birthday cake. They had candles to add and we sang Happy Birthday and celebrated after brunch. Then the waiter cut the cake and served everyone. We could not have asked for a better experience. Just a tip about parking, if you go a couple of blocks away from the restaurant you will find parking. It is difficult to find parking right next to the restaurant. The prices were very reasonable! If you are looking for a nice place to eat, I highly recommend this restaurant!
I have always enjoyed a wonderful meal here and love that the menu changes seasonally. The duck empanadas are back and they are amazing as an appetizer. A couple of specials that change regularly are usually offered as well. The calamari salad is fantastic and melts in your mouth. Always a great choice as a lunch item or to share before dinner.
You can't go wrong with anything on the menu so try it all, such as the mushroom wellington or sous vide pork tenderloin. Love them both and always a tough choice.
A special note is that while we were there for dinner, the power flashed, then went out right as our meal was being served. The staff and restaurant couldn't have been more apologetic for the inconvenience as they had nothing to do with it. They brought more candles for the table and our server brought her cell phone and turned on the flashlight to provide more light for us to enjoy our meal. When she brought the bill, she also gave us a gift card for $25 and again apologized for the inconvenience. They could not have been more attentive and thoughtful during our time there and proves again why we go there regularly for a wonderful meal and even better service.
I had a wonderful birthday dinner there. They were able to accomodate 15 people at 1 table, and our waitress was attentive, professional, and fun. I received a complimentary dessert, which was outstanding. (a chocolate peanutbutter bar w a scoop of icecream and marshmallow). The only complaint is that we were not informed beforehand that the maximum credit cards they accept is 5 per check, and they do not split checks. That is important to know when you have a party of 15! Overall I had a lovely experience, and will recommend to family and friends.
My food was very good. Not a huge fan of carrots, and I don't recall seeing them on the menu as accompanying my mushroom croute - I probably would've subbed out the asparagus that I got as a side dish. Or potatoes or something. Asparagus was a little crunchier than I like - I prefer it to be cooked more tenderly. My husband liked his dinner (surf and turf), although he thought the crab cake had a touch too much filler (I thought it was wonderfully seasoned).
My Manhattan, however, was pretty mediocre. I don't quite know what was wrong with it - perhaps there wasn't enough vermouth or bitters - I don't know. It had a maraschino cherry in it instead of the much preferred Luxardo cherry, but that wasn't it.
We have never had a bad meal at Blue Hill. We had the octopus appetizer and a the special gnocchi with mushrooms. Both were fabulous. My husband had the salmon and said it was outstanding and properly cooked. I had the shrimp and scallops over grits. Large shrimp and huge scallops and cooked properly as well. Terrific service as well.
In a word..Superb! Just a perfectly prepared meal. The olive tapenade and feta butter with crostini alone are worth the drive. I ordered the seared salmon but asked for the chef to make it Salmon Oscar.
A wonderful portion of perfectly seared and seasoned salmon topped with sweet jumbo lump crab meat with the best bernaise sauce I have ever tasted. Served with perfectly grilled asparagus.
Just an amazing meal. The wine I chose was a very nice Syrah/Malbec blend. For dessert there was a beautiful triple layered chocolate mousse that was light, not overly sweet...and delicious!
This place is a real find, nestled in the Canto /Brewer's Hill neighborhood. I discovered Blue Hill thru browsing Groupon specials and something just said it was going to be special. I eagerly await my next visit!
Friendly staff greeted us upon entering. We were giving a choice of seating locations. We sat upstairs and enjoyed our location. We selected drinks to begin our evening. We choose a wine, and two cocktails, one specialty cocktail that was like an egg custard snowball. Yummy!! We selected steak and both were cooked to specifications and the salmon was also excellent. Wine with dinner was a good choice. Two members of our party ordered dessert, apple tart with ice cream and bread pudding. Everything was very good and we would definitely eat here again. Our server, Alex, was always right on target. Wonderful night!
I don't usually take the time to write reviews but had to for Blue Hill. We feel this is one of the best restaurants in the city and is consistently 5 star for both service and food. Great atmosphere with friendly staff. Though off the beaten path well worth the visit.
I've never had a bad experience at Blue Hill Tavern. I've gone for just the bar, restaurant week, and everyday dining. This time my husband and I bought a Groupon for dinner. It was the last week of our Groupon and we brought our 4-year old son. The kids menu was great, there were at least seven items on the menu. There was a plastic cup provided with lid and straw that was great and prevented any spills. Our server was great and answered all of our questions. He was very much willing to accommodate our son and even offered to put in his food first while we made our decision. He was very knowledgeable of the menu and specials of the evening. The food as always was delicious and cooked to our liking, even the chicken tenders and fries were good. I always enjoying going to Blue Hill and will be returning soon.
What better way to cure a case of the Mondays than dinner at Blue Hill and service from Jon? Another fantastic meal shared among friends. I have had the salmon before but never prepared as it's done on the current menu. It was excellent and perfect for a bit of a lighter dish. Two of our dinners had steaks and were not disappointed! As always the calamari and salads were on point. Salted Caramel from Taharka Bros. was the perfect ending to a hot August day!
We sat on the upstairs balcony and had the whole thing to ourselves during sundown. While the view isn't particularly spectacular, it still made for a pleasant date night. The snapper was little overcooked, but the burger and fries were on point. From what we saw passing through, the ambiance inside was lovely. Our server was attentive while allowing us our space.
Waiter John was great. Gave us suggestions for our meals. When asked about the salad he said we could split it he was correct. They arrived at our table already split between 2 plates. The salmon was extremely delicious as well as the filet. The alacarte sides are enough for two people. Definitely will be back.
