Blue Fin - New York

Got to the restaurant just before the blackout in Manhattan. Got drinks before the lights went out. Wait staff was extremely nice and helpful despite the chaos. We were not able to order our food because they had to close the kitchen which was disappointing but I will definitely go back given the chance
I had a great overall experience, the Branzino was delicious and they drinks were fantastic. We were there during the blackout so our time was cut short, but all in all I highly recommend.
So I ordered halibut a la plancha, and received salmon. And then, the mid-town black-out hit, so it wasn't like I could send it back for the right order. A lot of diners just wanted to leave, and the staff was dealing with the rush, so the only thing I got was a price reduction for the difference. I'd like to believe that under normal circumstances, they would have done something to make it right.
Grilled Halibut and a French Martini. Perfect!
Don’t let the unimpressive streetfront right in Times Square put you off: inside and upstairs is a beautiful oasis of excellent seafood. A good but not huge range of well-prepared dishes, including a limited but very well done selection of sushi, makes for a very satisfying dinner. And don’t miss the spectacular blown glass light fixtures over the stairs: brilliant floating jellyfish!
Large portions of tasty fish dishes and interesting sushi roll optiions. Noise levels can be very high, but after the pre-theatre crowd departs, it's very comfortable.
It was a Birthday and then to the Theater to see To Kill a Mockingbird.
In New York to see Be more Chill.
Pricey even for NYC but yummy! Thx.
The bluefin food is so good the waitresses really nice they have a guy downstairs that took my OpenTable reservation right away and referred me to up go upstairs I like that because last week and some of the time if you make an OpenTable reservation the day of in an hour when you show up sometimes they don't take it and happened to me another restaurant in New York a few days ago and I don't like that I like them to take it right away and bluefin did
Overall it was a nice meal. My husband loved the ravioli. My halibut was a little lacking in seasoning but everything else was really good. We even went back for breakfast the next morning. The pancakes were delicious!
This was my first time going to Blue Fin, with my parents. The food was very good. We had reservations so we didn’t wait for a table. The waitress was knowledgeable and friendly, she answered the questions we asked her. The price is high but the food is so good that I didn’t care we really enjoyed
We arrived on time for our 6:15 reservation and made it clear to the hostess that we had theater tickets. They seated us around 6:30, took our order, then ignored us. No food, no water refills, nothing. At one point, the hostess came by to assure us that the manager was aware of our time restrictions, but then we were ignored again.
I'd ordered gazpacho and sushi--cold soup and raw fish!--yet it took them 45 minutes to serve it. Yes, my wife had branzino--a hot dish--but 45 minutes? When the meals arrived, my sushi was room temperature. Edible, to be sure, but not appetizing.
With 15 minutes left to eat, we scarfed down our meals as quickly as we could. When I spoke to the manager about all of this, he made excuses when a simple apology would have been better.
Blue Fin is a flashy restaurant in a high-rent building on Times Square. Clearly the place is more interested in one-off tourist business than in repeat business. There are a lot of restaurants in New York. I visit frequently, so it's nice to have one to cross off the list.
Blue Fin is our go to restaurant when seeing a Broadway Show. The food is fresh, delicious and inventive. We had an amazing summer heirloom tomato, ricotta & grilled peach salad. The fish is always outstanding, and the staff, superb!
Amazing food and beautiful decor! Our server was Manny, so helpful and professional. Highly recommend and you must ask for Manny! We will be back for sure!
It is a great place for a business meeting, family dinner or date. Great ambiance.
Bad service, food not great at 1:00 on a Sunday. Would not recommend
Excellent service and food was amazing. Our server was the best
The service and attention we received were excellent. Both my wife and I have dietary constraints and the server and kitchen staff did everything to make our dining experience safe and delicious.
The food preparation was excellent. Our halibut was done perfectly as were the accompanying vegetables. Our dessert choices were unique and quite tasty.
The noise level in the restaurant was good. We usually have a great deal of trouble in large crowded venues when it comes to conversation levels. Not so on the day we dined there.
The only criticism we had was the halibut portion was quite small. The value was therefore impacted. In other words, delicious but small.
We have dined there twice before and plan to return in the future. We hope that our criticism is taken to heart.
I have been to Blue Fin many times and have always had a wonderful dining experience. Unfortunately, this time was negatively different due to two servers. Our waiter was a nice, friendly man and I have no complaint about him. However, we had two unhelpful, rude servers and it left an imprint on the whole experience. I can provide details. Despite this, I would highly recommend Blue Fin with the hope that this was a one-time problem and that, hopefully, there will be closer supervision of staff in the future.
Loved the Blue Fin. We both had fish that was delicious.
Loved our server Olga & the beet salad was amazing!
too expensive and we did not feel the best after eating there. restaurant very nice and staff terrific.
Always a good place to meet friends and family. The staff is always friendly and they never rush you. The ambience is pleasant and the noise level is good you can always carry on a conversation without yelling!
Good Thai fish soup. Plain grilled fish excellently prepared.
The restaurant was nearly empty, which was just kinda sad. The gods was mediocre at best. The salad was over-dresses; the branzino was fine but nothing special; the vita should bowl was plentiful but as with many restaurants, the fish slices were too thick. Our server was very friendly and helpful though. Overall this restaurant does not look long for the world.
Nice restaurant in terms of look and feel well located in Times Square.
Lowlight was the service....
Waitress forgot to bring out drinks and a main course.
She tried to recover by delivering cookies but by then we had had enough.
Great to exit the crush of Times Square to enter the sophisticated world of The Blue Fin. Close to the theaters. A perfect way to relax before the high energy of a Broadway musical, such as Ain't We Proud - The Temptations.
The staff was great and friendly. The sushi was fresh and well displayed.
I might recommend it in the future but we had a not-so-great experience, where our waiter would leave and not return for a long time, over and over again. Also the elevator is very confusing.
Good but very expensive. Sushi was good, but not the greatest we've had and more $$ than a great sushi place. Salads were good. The best thing were the Bao bun appetizers. They were AMAZING! Since this is in time square, you are also paying for the location.
This restaurant is very consistent in quality of food and service
A restaurant that advertises itself as a sushi place has a very limited sushi menu. While the rolls we ordered were mediocre, the service was very slow. The rolls were small and very pricey for the serving size. We liked the gluten free bread that was served without request to one of us with celiacs. We will not be coming back before seeing a show.
This place is in Times Square, convenient to theatre patrons, and they are geared to timely dinners. Service is quick and efficient. I think it was more sushi oriented originally, more continental now, with sushi. A great place for good pre-theatre dining.
Good food but very expensive. I guess that is what you should expect in that location but I thought there was not a lot of value here.
Great location for a pre-show meal! One of our party was in a bit of a rush and the staff was great about accommodating her order quickly! Multiple sizes of dishes perfect if you want a full meal or just a pre-show snack!
I can not remember the last time I was this upset by a dining experience. How a place can take almost two hours to get an entire order wrong, send out that food ill-prepared and serve other parts of the meal without the proper dressings and accompaniments, when the order is as basic and simple as can be, is beyond me.
I was also planning to propose at your restaurant that night. I ended up doing it a week later when the Rainbow Room did me a solid.
We arrived two hours before our show that night too. We had VIP tix to see Diana Ross at Radio City and made sure our waiter knew we had a show to make. And still they got us out with barely minutes to make it in to the sold out concert five blocks away, without my ever getting food to eat, Jayson getting one bite of his and handing us a bag of caramelized carnival popcorn and cookies.
Until this, I loved Blue Fin. Been there half a dozen times. Previous gave them a five star rating.
We even kept things simple. We ordered the grilled octopus for an appetizer. Then he ordered the filet medium rare and I ordered the seared tuna (med rare) served on top of a Caesar salad instead of pasta (I don't eat carbs) with extra dressing and the vegetables and sauce on the side.
Thirty minutes later, I get the tuna on a bed of lettuce. No dressing. No bok choy. No vegetables. Then Jayson's steak arrived wrong too. WELL DONE, not medium rare. Five staff and a supervisor in training, and after another 30 minutes I got a tiny cup of dressing and we were still waiting for Jayson's steak to be remade.
We've now been there for an hour and a half and need to get out in 15 minutes to make the show.
Finally, I was so annoyed, and still waiting for my bok choy and veggies and looking at my uneaten, seared tuna on lettuce that we just paid our bill and left, having not eaten.
For the record, because of the kind of person I am, I still left 20% for a tip. I have too many friends in the hospitality industry. So, I know a bad tip or no tip
Fabulous!!! The sushi was amazing and delicious! Can’t wait to go back
Food was solid as usual. Service not so hot- had to wait over 10 minutes for an iced tea and waiter misunderstood one of our party and brought his a lunch before anyone else at the table had even ordered!
Also, it was extremely cold.
Good location for the theatre. Food is delicious. Service was just ok.
