I'm generally reluctant to dine in the Times Square area as it is so touristy, but decided to give Blu Fin a try, and it was a lovely experience.
Entering the small doorway, you are in a small bar with a few tables.
The action is upstairs where there is another bar and a couple of dining rooms.
We were seated in a small room at the back, and it's where you want to sit-quiet, unhurried, and attractive.
Our order included appetizers of lobster bisque and 'tartare trio' both of which were delicious, especially the 'trio'.
Mains were salmon and sesame crusted tuna over noodles, done 'black and blue', just as I requested and wonderful.
Wines by the glass were reasonable-we didn't peruse the wine list.
If you're looking for excellent food in the Times Square area, definitely consider Blue Fin.

We met out of town friends between the matinee they went to and the evening performance we were going to. I was a little hesitant to go to Blue Fin as the last time we went (10 years ago) we were disappointed with the food. But we figured if it was associated with the W Hotel, it would be good and we were right! Every dish we had: salads, and fish entrees were delicious and beautifully plated. And for Manhattan, not terribly expensive.

The food was fine, but not exceptional for a New York restaurant. The waiter was newer and tried to compensate as best as he could for his inexperience. I would try a different restaurant when I return to the theatre district next time. It was good but not great.

I picked Blue Fin as it was close to the show we were seeing and I’d had good meals there years ago when it first opened.

The restaurant was empty (maybe 6 other tables) yet it still took forever for us to place a drink order and get drinks. When drinks came the server spilled them all over my guest. They were very apologetic and brought replacements, but didn’t offer anything else (eg - a free round or dessert).

The food was fine (we kept it simple) so no issues there.

The cloth on the seat in the booth where we sat was ripped from front to back, exposing the foam rubber inside completely.

Overall it just felt like the staff wanted to do their side work and get out and weren’t overly concerned with those eating.

This used to be a really hot and fun restaurant but it seems to have had its 15 minutes and I’m not sure I’d go back.

The experience was poor. The table was so close to the next table I felt I was sitting in the persons lap. The reservation was for 7 pm. We arrive early at 645. At 715 we were seated. To start tepid water was served. No ice. The lobster bisque was good. The big eye tuna was perfect. Other than the ambiance and our server the experience was good, not great.

Terrible service- waiter had a bad attitude. He rolled his eyes right at us. At one point I waived for him as we were waiting quite awhile to place our breakfast order. He acknowledged and then proceeded to bus an empty table prior to coming to take our order. Less than 50% of the tables were occupied.

While the sushi we ordered was good, it wasn't outstanding. Our main courses - Tuna with sesame seeds, bokchoy, and noodles- and halibut with gnoki were exceptional , moist, flavorful, and delish!

Fish fit for a king!
Went to Bluefin, primarily for their sushi and interesting fish options. We're blown away by the delicious and interesting selection and high quality of their food. Had theater tickets and we're somewhat short for time and the wonderful staff accommodated us and made our experience top notch! Highly recommend. Plus, the Faroe Island salmon dishes and seasonal soft shell crab rolls we're outstanding!

Always enjoy eating at Blue Fin. It was a special birthday for my daughter, and Blue Fin is her favorite restaurant. Great atmosphere and delicious food. Looking forward to going back again the next time we are in NYC.

I used to eat at Blue Fin often. This time was a complete let down. The wait staff needs to be properly trained for starters. The wine I ordered was not brought to the table within a reasonable time frame. It was forgotten, and when ultimately noticed, the server said “oh I asked someone else to bring it”. The bread was not placed, it was “dropped” on our table as a server passed by.
We ordered a goat cheese salad with Arugula to share. The arugula was simply a garnishment. The server told us other patrons have complained and the restaurant has chosen not to address this. Had she explained there was no arugula and this was simply a beet salad when we ordered, our expectations would have been different or we may have chosen to order another salad. Additionally the goat cheese must have fallen victim to some blue cheese in the kitchen. It had a mild taste of blue cheese which I do not enjoy.
When I requested my salmon be medium rare plus, the waitress told me I could only have my salmon medium rare or medium. After explaining that I was concerned that ordering it medium would be over cooked and dry, she repeated with attitude, medium rare or medium.
Bottom line, I will not return any time soon if at all.

Food was inferior. We decided on salad, then shared sushi. Our sushi arrived before we finished our salad, and our dining experience lasted a total of 40 minutes.
Would never return there or recommend.

Really nothing special - it's just convenient to the theater district. Service was terrible and the food is mediocre. We waited 15 minutes before anyone came over and that was only because we got up from the table and asked to place our order. There are too many great restaurants in NYC to waste time and money here.

One dinner arrived 20 min after the other 5 and the one dessert ordered took half an hour to be served. We arrived at the restaurant at 5:30 pre theatre for an 8 o’clock show. Our dessert was served at 7:35! The water said he would make it up to us but that was not the case. We had to run to make the curtain. The food was fantastic but ambiance and servings not worth the money.

Portions are small and minimal menu. My sushi had a large piece of cartilage in it that scraped the roof of my mouth (luckily didn’t swallow)! They comped the sushi, but not the meal (with a HUGE screwup)!

We booked here as this was close to theater. We had a handicapped friend who joined us. (very healthy until a brain tumor attacked and changed her life and paralyzed her left side)
EVERYONE! was kind and considerate about her need for accommodation. The reception desk offered alternatives, the person who seated us took care of her scooter, the waitress was very accommodating. Everyone went out of their way to assure she and we had a good time and her handicap was not an issue.
We cannot thank the staff at Blue Fin Grill for being so kind and accommodating.
