Blue Fin - New York
Book your next event with us
Food was good but a bit pricy for quality. Our server was horrible, only checked on us at max 3x and we had to ask for water multiple times. The young male hostess was very rude.
Not the crowd you want if your a New Yorker on a date or if you want good service
Good for pre theater dining.
Blue Fin used to be a rather elegant, sushi and seafood restaurant, but has become just another loud, TGIF-like tourist trap in Times Square. The crab claw special were frozen and we couldn’t even get the meat from the shell, the special seafood miso soup had maybe two small pieces of seafood in it and mostly tofu, the Manhattan my husband ordered was like cough syrup, the sushi was supermarket quality, and my fish special was bland and tasteless with the side completely inedible. NOT CHEAP. We would have been better off getting a hot dog or a gyro at a stand in Times Sq.
No question the fish was fresh and well prepared and delicious. The problem was the service. After we ordered we were ignored. We couldn’t even order a glass of wine for dinner. The waitress disappeared. We couldn’t even get our plates cleared after either course
First reception at ground floor was ok. The lady on the restaurant level was not interested and didn’t even bother to address me. The fact that the table was not ready (with several empty tables) did not urge her to ask me to inform.
Just minding her own business.
Food and waitress was good
I got to Blue Fin on what was a very busy night for them, but thankfully I had a reservation. This restaurant has two levels and the person on the first level sent me upstairs and said they would seat me. Once I got upstairs, I stood at the podium unspoken too and unacknowledged for quite some time. When I inquired, they said they didn't even have their 6:30 people seated (my reservation was for 6:45 and it was right about that time) and to just be patient and they would find me. Clearly, it was a super busy night with a private party happening as well. When I ultimately got to my table, our waitress was incredibly friendly and attentive. The food was outstanding and we had a lovely and affordable bottle of wine and then got to the show we were seeing around the corner right on time. Great restaurant and asset to the neighborhood, but the front of house just needs to be more attentive and friendly.
Brought a friend here to give her a great dinner - what a disappointment. Standard in this place has really fallen. White wine was warm. Food tasteless. Service awful - waiter never brought two of the items we ordered.
Nice restaurant before a show. Location is great. Had the fish of the day and it was done perfectly.
It’s good enough for the area. Server was very good
I loved this restaurant. The ambience was incredible and the food even more so!!! The servers were super kind
Very pleased with our visit. We were a little late in arriving due to heavy traffic and the staff went out of their way to accommodate us to make sure we weren’t late for the Broadway show we were attending. Food was also great. Would definitely go back.
Excellent service and eggnog crepe brûlée was excellent as well.
It was my wife’s birthday and they never acknowledged it, even though I spoke with the person who checked us in
My girlfriend and I went to eat between the Harry Potter plays. We had 4:15 reservations. Upon arriving told that could only order appetizers until 4:30. We were then barraged by 5 different wait staff telling us they were serving us and that we could order from only part of the menu until 4:30 or 5:00 (guess the staff was as confused as the patrons). Saw group next to us eating a salad that looked good but was told when asked that came from a brunch menu that was no longer available. The appetizers were good. A sever came with some food that was no ours and removed my appetizer plate at some point. I had tuna that was good but a bit overcooked. My guest had shrimp appetizer only. She ordered lobster potato that she did not care for a well.
So overall so confusing with the rotating menus I would avoid from 12 until 6.
We were in New York for Christmas and had a wonderful time Blue Fin. Our waitress was wonderful and the food was great. Would definitely go again.
I would recommend with some conditions. The atmosphere left a lot to be desired. This is a wide open space which by no means cozy. The overhead music is very loud and certainly energetic. Now, our service was pretty good. We had a personable waiter who was reasonably attentive. Now, to the food. The food was the best part of our visit. My oysters were very fresh and delicious. I had an Asian tuna dish. The tuna was fresh and delicious. My wife had the halibut which was broiled with roasted vegetables. Delicious all around.
Spent the earlier part of the day at a broadway show and had reservations at Blue Fin. We left the show with time to spare before our reservations so spent time at the bar until our time to sit. The food was divine with a creamy ceviche and an even more delicious East/West oyster platter for our appetizers. Ribeye was cooked perfect and the scallops were full of flavor. It was all great.
Excellent food, great service, beautiful restaurant. The space upstairs is very tight while waiting for our table (waited 15 minutes w/ reservation) along with servers trying to squeeze past at least 20 others waiting. I suggest not sending patrons upstairs until the table is ready. Otherwise fantastic experience.
Wonderful bartender set the scene for a lovely evening. We were seated in the back room which made conversation so much easier. Food was outstanding service was delightful
Great service and atmosphere.
Prepare to indulge your taste buds in a myriad of flavors...we are from Southern California - land of amazing restaurants and sushi bars and all we can say is WOW!!!!!! The food is so fresh and delicious and the presentation is awesome. Just be prepared to wait - even with a reservation - this place is in the heart of Times Square and everyone knows about it. Secret?? Sit at the bar for fast service and a quieter space believe it or not - and the bartenders are awesome!!
Great pre- theater place for lunch or brunch. Varied, interesting and reasonable choices. Included cocktail at brunch a nice touch. Server was pleasant and efficient. Terrific atmosphere as well.
Everything was good, especially the unexpected free cocktail thrown in at brunch time. Sadly a couple of wait staff hadn’t made it to work which meant our polite and hardworking lady did her best but was overwhelmed with so many tables. All in all, an oasis for brunch right on Times Square.
A pleasant place, with very good food and very nice service. Just wish they'd turn down the music a bit... A big space that generates enough noise on its own. doesn't need the music, too! But we'll be back. Great location for the theater district...
When we arrived the hostesses were all arguing. It took a few minutes before we could get their attention to be seated. Food was good, not great. Our server was friendly, but clearly overworked. We had to ask for refills and barely saw him. I wouldn’t go back, but not terrible.
Waiter, there's a hair on my sushi!
We were about to tuck in to our sushi when we noticed a curly hair sitting proud on the sushi. In addition to this;
We had to chase up drinks as starter had arrived by not the drinks. Apparently they were 'still being made'. It was a beer from a can and a glass of wine....not sure what had to be 'made'.
The wine was not cold enough.
Immediately after the 'hair incident' we were asked how our evening was do far - I told the waitress that it was fine until I found a hair sat on my sushi.
We had to chase up fries which we'd ordered with our main course - they arrived at a point in the dinner when I had less than half of my dinner left.
The main course itself was lovely - such a shame about the list of things above.
Seafood was fresh- well-prepared
Service was friendly and prompt.
Lovely food, made a special effort for my sister’s birthday.
I wish I could remember the name of our server. He was just right. Excellent breakfast and such a nice experience.
Love this restaurant we will return
I would for a pre-theater meal. the table was smaller than a bistro table! the staff didn't seem to communicate with each other too well.
We were before Theater.
The ceviche was very tasty.
The sushi was so fresh and delicious.
I go to this restaurant all the time. This time it was very crowded and the service was terrible. I asked for a coffee refill 3 times before calling a manager over.
The food was really good but the service from our waitress was awful. She took 4 attempts to take our order as she was pre occupied with other customers. We visited the restaurant as it came up as recommended gluten free but most of the mains contained gluten so was disappointing.
We had one drink and the waitress never back to see if we wanted another. Although the quality of the food was good we won’t go back
The quality of the food and service has gone down throughout the years.
Location was perfect, food was good, service was fine, nothing was outstanding
The food was bland and tasteless. Four of us ate there and without getting desserts the bill was almost $300!! Do not waste your money on this place. The service was ok but the food took forever to get to our table. Would not recommend!!
Very good food at an appropriate price. Convenient to Times Square.
Visiting our daughter during Thanksgiving weekend...
Great atmosphere, decor, and food
