It was very loud with the small room and a large group of executives owning the place. We couldn't wait to get out of there. Good food, good service. Just not a great place for large groups of people.
Food was tasteless. Ravioli special had
No taste and was topped with a pepper goat cheese? Totally didnt go with entree. Steak was awful. Not expecting that based on a “steak and wine bar”. Wine was good, but hard to mess that up.
Sorry, wish I could say something positive.
We at there on Saturday the 14th prior to a show at the Flynn. The menu is excellent, something for everyone with better than average selection. The food was very good. We had the Duck and Filet Mignon. Both were well done. The wine/beer list was good. The server was excellent, attentive without being intrusive.
It is a small, intimate place, the one comment I will make that wasn't great, and might be why we don't make it a regular stop is that the intimacy also results in a lack of privacy while dining. The tables are close together, you really cannot speak without hearing and being over-heard...which always feels weird to me. If that doesn't bother you this is a very good choice.
Lovely waitress, very attentive. The chef did an incredible job with the stuffed ravioli on a bed of balsamic reduction sauce. Served over baby spinach! Oh my heavens, what a meal! Thank you again😀
Good food and atmosphere.
It was our Easter dinner with our daughter. It was a lovely meal, 2 Filets, 1 Ravioli, and 1 chicken. The chicken was tender and sweet, the filets were modestly sized, and delicious as well as the ravioli.
Small family gathering for a birthday. I like the intimate space and the low key personal service. The food was all very good as were the wine selections. Everyone in the party seemed pleased with their food
Dinner with Friends
Everything was delicious, only wished the did not pack people so close drone each other when the restaurant is empty. Will go again
Intimate, inviting restaurant on a chilly March night. Wine by the glass was half price on a Monday night! We both ordered the filet which came with a creamy sweet potato and green beans. The food was delicious, service was excellent and the ambiance was relaxing and cozy!
While the food was quite good (not great), the wait for it to come out was so long, we almost left. This was not the first time that has been the case, so we won’t be going back.
Food was good but was expecting more. Nothing special for the price. Glad we went but won't go back.
Wow, the ambience in this place is amazing. We felt like we were in the French Quarter in New Orleans. Our waiter, William, was excellent, very professional and warm. Our only complaint re: service is that our one meal (we shared a strip steak with sides) took what seemed like a long time (30-35 mins) considering we were 1 of 2 tables in the restaurant.
The food was excellent. Instead of bread and butter, Blue Cat serves baked pita and hummus, which was a pleasant change and delicious. Our strip steak, asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes were amazing. Our only complaint re: the food is we asked for the steak to be cooked medium, and it was rare-medium rare, but we didn't have the time available to ask for it to be cooked longer. We ate it anyway, and it was very good. My favorite was the garlic mashed potatoes - I've had a lot of garlic mashed potatoes in my life and these were exquisite! Pillowy, fluffy, no clumps and with a nice garlic flavor. Both my husband and I enjoyed our wine, which we were brought samples of before we committed.
This place is romantic and has a one-of-a-kind ambience, has delicious food, a great wine selection and we were, overall, happy with the visit.
I Never write reviews but had to this time. After several visits to The Blue Cat we looked forward to our Valentines dinner. Once again, every single thing about it was absolutely perfect.
From the signature cocktails (Honeysuckle and Maple Manhattan) to the appetizers (pork ribs this time but the Turkish meatballs are awesome!) to the main courses (ribeye - perfectly cooked and the petite steak) - it couldn’t have been better.
There are a couple of Burlington steak places, but the Blue Cat is by far the best in quality, atmosphere and price!
We have been going here for years and never dissapointed. The food is very good and and the wine list is outstanding. We find the whole experience very enjoyable.
I've heard great things about Blue Cat and how cozy and intimate it was, which felt perfect for Valentine's Day. For being a holiday known for eating out we had made reservations weeks before and was seated straight away. It was odd that the host was also the server and vice versus.... After reviewing the menus for a few minutes we were then told that two of the main dishes (including the only chicken dish) were not available on a already very limited menu. My husband can not eat red meat so for them to not offer a chicken dish (on a popular holiday) was extremely frustrating. The food we ended up getting was good, but not filling for what we paid for the meal. We ended up cooking a meal at home after paying close to a 100.00 dollars for a meal out..... leaves a sour taste in my month.
The place is too crowded - only two servers which makes the dinner long when they are busy. I ordered the rib eye which was nothing great - just an ordinary overpriced steak. I may go back but not immediately.
Great wine selection. Loved the pita and hummus to start. Unfortunately it took an hour for our food to come, however when it did it was hot and delicious. Don’t come here if you’re starving. It’s a great place to have a good bottle of wine while you wait for you food. Don’t come here if you’re in a rush.
I’m happy I found this restaurant. It is the perfect level of noise for a conversation and unwinding after a work week. The candlelit room and attentive service are pleasant. The food was good (steak and roasted root vegetables) and the cheese plate had a nice selection of local favorites. A few items were weaker than others(the shrimp in the cocktail and the garlic potatoes). I would go again for the vibe and wine but be a bit more careful about my menu choices and trust the server more.
We essentially had the whole restaurant to ourselves. Ribeye and filet mignon were both fantastic. Mussels appetizer was superb. Our waitress was excellent and very attentive. Overall a wonderful way to end our day.
My wife and I dined at the Blue Cat on New Years Eve. The restraunt is warm and has an intimate atmosphere. Our server Isabel (not Isabela) was very attentive. The service was not fast but it was nice to relax and enjoy the evening. The food was excellent. Overall we both enjoyed our dining experience and look forward to returning! Thank You!
On our vacation in Burlington, VT, we pretty much ate our way through this lovely town. But this restaurant was our very favorite! So much so, we even came back for a second visit before leaving Burlington.
While we really enjoyed the food, we both felt the front of the house was grossly understaffed. People who arrived had to wait for waitress to finish at a table before they were approached and seated. Timing in between courses was longer than it should be
As always we greatly enjoyed dinner at Burlington's hidden gem. The steaks and duck were great, as was the Caesar salad. We enjoyed two bottles of a very fairly priced cab. There's a reason the classics are classic and Blue Cat delivers.
Our meal was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented and with adequate portions. Our server was friendly and informative, not seemingly rushed at all, though she appeared to be the only server that night. We would definitely return.
Love the Duck Breast.
They always seem to be short handed so sometimes service seems slow.
We have been eating at the Blue Cat for several years and have been disapointed with this visit. First, they cancelled the free parking policy. Then, service was very long (waiting 15 minutes for our bottle of wine); the steak was not cooked to order; the restaurant was not clean (bathrooms grungy, vents full of dust)- Is this why it is kept so dark? For the price range, this was not to our satisfaction.
The food was quite good. They have a nice variety on the menu. The service was a bit slow, especially considering that we were dining early and there were very few other tables with patrons. The food took a long time and the waitress did not check in very often to see if we wanted more drinks.
I like dining here, this is my 3rd visit.
The food is good, with creative choices and the service is friendly. You feel yourself relaxing as you sit down and peruse the menu.
We ordered the cheese plate appetizer with interesting tastes of chili cheddar, blue, ‘plain’ cheddar, and a soft Brie type. Hummus and pita bread are complimentary.
I ordered an Old Fashion with a touch of maple - it’s very good.
We 3 had Caesar salads, which my daughter remembered from our visit last year.
Our reservations were for 6:30 but the 2 orders of filet mignon were the last 2 filets. I ordered the chicken which I have had before.
These orders took 25-30 minutes to arrive and the taste of filet that I had was only ‘warm’. My chicken on the other hand was piping hot. I asked my companions if they wanted their steaks heated up but they both declined. Not sure why they weren’t served hot (I’m familiar with ‘resting’ and don’t believe that was the reason). The filets did taste delicious.
I was comfortabley full and was planning on passing up desert - until I heard ‘cherry pie with a scoop of ice cream’. I made room and it was delicious.
I will be back.
Only 2 people working who had to do hostess, waiter, bartender, water roles. Did not show us the bottle of $75 wine before uncorking or let us taste it before decantering it. Food was good but arrived tepid (& that is being generous with estimating temperatures). Steaks OK but nothing great. Overall, save your $ for someplace else, go here for glass of wine & app.
The restaurant is a bit hidden in a building that looks like an office building. The dining room is small, but cozy and it has potential. Unfortunately, the staff- which consisted of two people- the waitress and the bartender, were unhospitable, verging on rude at times. When we first walked in we were not greeted with a hello or a welcome, but with "do you have a reservation?!!". We did arrive about twenty minutes before our reservation time, figuring we would have a drink at the bar, since they bill themselves as a wine bar. We were rudely told that "our table wasn't ready and we would just have to wait". We sat down at the bar and again the first thing we were greeted with was "do you have a reservation?!". We confirmed, only to have the bartender walk away and not return for ten minutes to ask if we would like anything. We were finally sat at our table ten minutes after our reservation time, which is fine, except the table had been empty for twenty minutes, but the waitress, who was clearly stressed, couldn't get to it to reset it.
She took our order, then we waited. And waited. The dinners took much longer than they should have. The food was ok, nothing special, but not terrible. There are so many other choices in Burlington with great food and service. We will not be returning to this one.
If they want to compete in this city, they need to up the level of service and food quality. And maybe a lesson in courtesy!
Steak was fine. My wife's dish was fine. But at $32 for a petite slice of beef plus $6 for a sauce, we were both expecting better than "fine". There was no love or originality in their dishes. The next night, we ate at a different place in Burlington --- creative sauces, great flavors, lovely service, special care, at 40% less and better ambience.
The food was excellent...when it finally arrived. Staff seemed to be very understaffed for a Friday evening. There were two servers who were also manning the bar and the hostess station. Not their fault, but still frustrating as a customer..
Blue Cat is a gem hiding in Burlington. The food is creative and eclectic. We ordered the cheese plate and ribs for apps. The ribs had a delicious smokey flavor, nothing like typical BBQ ribs. The rack of lamb was perfectly cooked. The ravioli special in a balsamic glaze was a perfect blend of flavors. I will definitely go back.
It was a great place for a first date. I'll definitely come back.
October 25, 2017 - So sad to hear comments from all of my (12) guests (as the restaurant has so much character); the food was good, but the service was terrible and slow. Guests had to go to the bar to get their owns drinks. There were (12) in our party and a party of (10) beside us. Our reservation was for 5:30, but didn't leave until after 10:00. The reservation was done far enough in advance where they could of hired more help for the evening, knowing that they were going to be busy. Comments on the food were: the steak was very good, one dinner was cold and another stated his Salmon was overcooked. With disappointment, I will not reserve or suggest this restaurant to anyone. :(
Made a reservation a week in advance to Blue Cat because it was leaf peeping season in VT and I wanted to secure a spot for us to have dinner. When we got there, it was apparent they were short staffed because the hostess was also 1 of 2 waitresses/waitors and the bartender. We were finally seated and they took our drink orders almost immediately, which I was thankful for. The couple to our left started chatting with us about how they love this restaurant and come back for big occasions (like their wedding anniversary and birthdays) even though they live in NJ, so I figured it had to be promising. But then they mentioned they had been waiting for their meal for an hour and a half -- and when the meal finally came it was cold. They were displeased and made it well-known. Our food came within 45 mins, so no complaints there, but the plating was messy and just unoriginal. I didn't feel like it was worth the $ or the yelp reviews, but it was a fine meal - just nothing that I would rave home about. Service needs a serious upgrade and the lighting could be a bit brighter, especially since the restaurant is situated in a building with no windows to the outdoor light. They were also out of 3 entrees on the menu, which is odd especially since the restaurant was packed.
Engagement of daughter
Second time here and very disappointed. In 90 minutes we got one drink and our salads. Service was extremely slow and the place was very busy. When we finally got our food it was cold. Unfortunately we were celebrating a birthday and our Anniversary and the experience wasn't good. This place needs more staff and needs to manage their food orders better. The specials were listed but they ran out of 3 of them by 6pm. Sadly we will not be returning, just a disappointment.
Lovely little restaurant in a nice setting in downtown Burlington. The restaurant is a small and intimate setting. There was only one waitress and this was some of the most efficient service I have experienced - attentive without being overbearing. The food was perfectly cooked as per our respective orders, seasoned perfectly and delicious. I had the rack of lamb with garlic mashed potatoes. My husband has the NY strip with mashed potatoes, herbed butter and brandied mushroom sauce. Both superb! A starter, the two main meals, one glass of prosecco, a soda and a bottle of water was $123 (excl tip). The restaurant has a parking space available next to the building - you need to get a parking permit from the restaurant to display in your car. The food was well worth the price and we will go back when we are in VT again.
