Welcome to Blue Cat Steak & Wine Bar. We are located in the center of downtown Burlington in a little alley called Lawson Lane. In our cozy corner of the town we serve all Certified Angus Beef (CAB) steaks and a variety of fresh seafood and vegetarian options. We use local produce whenever possible and feature a rotating selection of Vermont cheeses.

    Better steaks at Applebees. Very disappointed. Ordered ribeye that was tough and WAY over cooked. Immediately told waiter. Said he would talk to chef. Only response was, when paying bill,” try us next time”. Sorry, too many good restaurants in Burlington for that. On plus side, good Blue Cheese salad. Nice, albeit small, atmosphere. Could use more wine by glass option, as well. Was simply hoping for better.

    Charming and welcoming place that even people in Burlington do not know about. We had a great experience. Our hostess was welcoming and very helpful. Our waiter was extremely serviceable and did a great job making suggestions. The menu is simple with nice choices. The food was really good. Our meats were cooked exactly how we asked for. We will definitely be back.

    Delightful restaurant and bar located quirkily within a traditional Burlington office building. Quiet when we were there on a Monday evening, but the food and service were of a very high standard.

    We told twice, “I will be right with you”. Waited 20 minutes with not so much as water. The place is small and 5 tables were seated we were the 6 th. We watched all tables around us getting service. We left and didn’t even taste the water because it was never brought. Like other reviewers the service, at least for us, was non existent.

    Yummy food, quaint setting. Just a little surprised at how long it took for us to order drinks, then get them, and get a little starter of bread (hummus and pita with pickles, yummy).

    No issues with the food. It was good. Service was very bad. Waitress never came to take our order. After waiting and waiting finally had to get up and ask the bartender where our waitress was. An hour later they served us someone else’s dessert and forgot our dinner order. And finally when we wanted our to pay the bill the waitress was nowhere to be found again. Hopefully this feedback is helpful because the food and atmosphere was good

    We had a reservation for 3 for over 2 weeks for a UVM weekend. We thought we might be running 10 minutes late and I called to notify the restaurant. We actually ended up on time, but the table we were given seemed like they threw it together at the last minute. We were the only table with no tablecloth and against a column which made sitting on one side virtually impossible with service traffic. When I asked about being moved (as there were many empty tables), I was told that they were expecting crowds for the weekend. I felt dismissed and put aside despite my early reservation. My wife ordered a glass of wine that came in a smaller glass while we watched others getting wine in in larger more ornate glasses. I will give credit to very good food (Steak au poivre was excellent). We were never asked if we wanted dessert when we were done. Overall, I disappointing experience and one I'd not consider returning to on later trips to Burlington.

    Such a cool place, Beckett was very personable . We shared the cheese plate as our appetizer , which was so delicious & had Caesar salad topped with the most incredible salmon. The perfect dinner after traveling all day.

    Hard to find the alley where it is located and hard to find parking close by but once we did get there it was lovely. The food was excellent and waiter was great. The curry mussels were fabulous and a delicious twist. The ravioli as well as the steak au poivre were also delicious. My friend had the salmon and said it was really good as well. The chocolate lava cake made a perfect ending to our meal. All in all- well worth the trip and a delightful meal that wasn’t outrageously priced.

    We each had some excellent prime NY strips perfectly prepared. The bottle of Annabella Cabernet Sauvignon was quite good, too.

    This restaurant was a true "find" IMO. Nestled behind the busier streets and down an alley it is located within a building housing a trendy bar and other businesses. The ambience was quite appealing. Dark wood, low lights and interesting wall decor. I had the 6 oz filet (slightly undercooked) but tender. My date had the salmon and enjoyed that. Of course the mashed potatoes were welcome and delicious. I ordered a martini but too heavy on the vermouth. Service was beyond reproach. Overall the highlights include the atmosphere and service. I would recommend it!! If you can find it!!

    Very nice experience, a little pricey but worth it for a special occasion. The service was great and our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. A slow night so a bit too quiet! Will certainly return again soon 🙂

    Blue Cat used to be one of our favorites. Haven't been there since Covid. We will not be returning. The food first - the "amuse bouche" of humus and pickles was a big disaster. Half of the pita triangles served with it were burned...not just burned - BLACK. The two steaks (hangar and rib eye) were a mixed bag. The hangar steak was fine but the rib eye was a mass of gristle. Left some and when asked if I wanted a box for what I didn't eat, I respectfully declined. The largest problem was I had purchased a gift certificate of 100 dollars which was 4 25 dollar pieces. I have used them before. This time, I was told that they would only accept one at a time. Nowhere does it indicate this policy. Informed them we would not be back. Did give a minimum tip to Beckett, our server because he deserved something for his effort. Saw many poor ratings and I have a feeling that they won't be around much longer. Stay away. Be forewarned.

    Start to finish this was disappointing. Cancelled Leunigs to try something new and regretted it. Ambiance outside the door far surpasses the interior. Took forever to have service, not even water. Steak cuts were gristly and the fish was covered in sauce. Felt like the sauces were an attempt to over compensate for bad meats. Server seemed annoyed we were there and eye rolled at the smallest requests. I am not picky but this was probably one of the worst meal experiences I have ever had.

    We started off with “Jumbo” Shrimp Cocktail. $13.00 for 5 shrimp. They were not Jumbo, they were large, and they were not fresh. It was disappointing. I had the salmon, the dish was delicious, the portion was lunch sized, like most places put on a salad, as an add-on. My daughter and her boyfriend got the ravioli’s, which again, they said were delicious, but a very small portion. My daughter ALWAYS ends up taking some of her meal home, but not here, she ate every bite. Why wife wanted the filet (one of only 2 steaks on the menu, at a steak / wine place), and they were out of it, at 6:15 on Saturday evening. She ordered the NY Strip, on special ($42.00), and it was disappointing. More than half of it came home for the dog….grizzle & fat. We passed on dessert and went elsewhere. I was very disappointed, coming in from out of town, to take my daughter out for her birthday. We were all disappointed. I would say it was overall very mediocre.

    The food was so mediocre. The duck was chewy and the meal did not have really any flavor. My husband liked his pasta dish. The menu needs improvement of better choices. This was a big disappointment on my 65th birthday and celebrating my retirement of over 40 years in the food service industry. Ambiance and service was good.

    We were just about the only people there on a Friday night. Food was delicious. Service was pleasant, though check was calculated incorrectly at the end, but corrected when brought to their attention. If you’re looking for a quiet, tasty meal, this is the place.

    It was a great place to go for Father’s Day. We were able to get in with a reservation. There were 4 people in our group and everyone really enjoyed the food and drinks. The smoky margarita on the menu was excellent. We recommend this place to anyone that’s looking for a nice place to eat in Burlington Vermont

    To begin with the restaurant's location was delightful from my point of view. We accessed it from an alley running west from City Hall Park in Burlington. It is convenient to the Church Street area of the city and not too far from the Burlington Waterfront. The restaurant lacks spectacular views of Lake Champlain, but it makes up for it with a quiet, intimate atmosphere. The restaurant was empty when we arrived, but the staff member who greeted us made us feel welcome. She remembered details about our reservation request and seated us in a nice private corner. She was extremely attentive. The wine selection was more than adequate. The restaurant boasted a full bar as well as signature cocktails. The menu was focused but with enough variety to allow for personal taste. The chef and staff were careful to follow up on each order. When other patrons came in, the staff were careful to spread out seating to allow for a sense of privacy. The food was a delight. The steak was tender and juicy and the salmon was superb. There was no sense of hurry and we found the atmosphere relaxing. The desserts were excellent. In conclusion, it you are looking for a quiet romantic restaurant just outside the main commercial strip of Church Street, I highly recommend Blue Cat Steak & Wine Bar.

    We are regulars at the Blue Cat...great steaks, good wine list. This trip we sat outside on the terrace overlooking the square. Lots of action out there, same great steaks.

    Underwhelming and overpriced. Server was friendly but busy. All dishes came with same sides (garlic mashed potatoes, two spears of broccoli, a few slices of carrot). Steaks were good but not sure they were worth the price. Friendly but persistent tarot card reader, who appeared to be affiliated with the restaurant, was set up behind our table and eavesdropped and interrupted our conversation multiple times.
