Wonderful experience ! Staff and chef were personable and attentive . Dinner was delicious ! Will definitely return .
An anniversary meal for two was a great time. We had the Blue Cat all to ourselves, probably due to Covid 19 concerns. Our server was very attentive despite we being her only customers. She could have just ignored us but did not. The Filet Mignon steaks were perfection and the sides were very well prepared. Will go again for sure.
I am a chef so bear with me...
The service was pretty good but it was the owner who served us not a server. AND we were the only guests. I would have staged the appetizers better because we were sharing. Or at the least brought share plates. The dinners felt rushed too...which wasn’t necessary at all. Food needed color on the plates. Huge white ones with bland color food. It tasted pretty good and we especially liked the curried mussels as well as the filet. All in all a good experience considering being covid times weirdness. I’d love to go back and coach them as per how to set a proper table,etc...
Excellent birthday dinner. Thank you!! Looking forward to returning once Covid passes...
Perfect spot for a date
We had a fantastic meal! Maria was our server and she was fantastic! This place is a hidden gem in a sea of restaurants in Burlington!
I've been here a number of times. Started with a Caesar salad that was excellent. Main course was filet mignon which was very tender and flavorful. Sides were tasty mashed potatoes and grilled zucchini. We chose a bottle of Caymus Cabernet to complement the meal and it matched or dinner so well.
The tables were far apart due to covid and the staff was masked and quite friendly.
The ravioli was probably the worst I’ve ever had. It was so dry/hard and drenched (a full on river) in some sort of balsamic.
The waitress was extremely kind and the vibe was really nice there but not worth the money
We went for our anniversary dinner and our service was amazing, the food was devoured in seconds. I couldn’t of had a better experience if I tried. Five thumbs up.
Made a reservation and was not allowed to sit in the establishment. Was seated in the corridor. Menu was limited to three entrees. When we placed our order one of the three was sold out. My steak was great but my vegetable consisted of one Brussel sprout cut in half.
amazing food and amazing service!!! best location in Burlington
Wonderful service and food Great wines Not a huge selection of entres but excellent
My belief is that they forced a reopening without any thought to execution. We waited 45 minutes for our appetizers, another 45 minutes for our food. By the time we got our food, it was cold, dry, overcooked and we just wanted to get out of there. Our server handles everything in stride- no complaints there, but it was clear he was serving too many tables and he mentioned that there was a single chef cooking for the entire restaurant. Maybe in non-covid times, this would be a good dinner spot but I would avoid it until then. It was extremely overpriced. $35 for a filet that was cold and dry, and literally 2 bites of cold mashed potatoes.
Understaffed-big time! We waited 2 hours for food, just 2 waitstaff & 1cook. Too bad because the restaurant is cozy & food is good.
Waited about an hour to get our appetizer. Service just way too slow. Food was very good but not worth the wait
Large shrimp for appetizer no flavor
Ravioli with squash & balsamic vinegar., the were floating in vinegar.
Salmon bland
Music very loud
The food was incredible.
I came to the Blue Cat with my mother for dinner after completing a 120 mile bike ride and I ordered the ribeye steak and bottle of wine. The food and the wine was amazing, and our waitress was so kind and attentive! There was a band playing outside that we could hear from our table and the ambience was perfect. Highly recommend!
Beautiful intimate little venue. The food was really good. My husband said the NY Strip was the best he’d ever had.
We sat on their balcony, which was cozy. The bar next door had live music, which we enjoyed. The menu was limited, which I don’t mind. Unfortunately the quality of the dishes was disappointing. My husband had a brisket sandwich, which was the best of the food and best price at $15. My choice was a red pepper ravioli. For $25 I got 5 pieces of ravioli and 1 artichoke heart cut into quarters. The ravioli wasn’t very warm and the artichoke hearts were actually cool. It was swimming in oil with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar. The service was adequate but nothing to write home about. For dessert we shared a slice of raspberry pie, which tasted ok but didn’t seem very fresh, with some raspberry ice cream. Very “home style” plating.
We’ve been dining here since they opened 14 years ago and we’ve never been disappointed. Amazing food and perfect wine pairings. Great service too.
We have always loved the Blue Cat but we were disappointed this time. I know due to COVID, the menu option is more limited. We used to be able to get a nice glass of wine there and for a glass, there was one option and a wine that I would not charge that kind of money for. We asked for a martini chilled and the person waiting on us and also making our drinks was not super confident. I am sure not her fault as she was out of vodka and wasn't able to chill it.
'
I don't know if we will be back unless it gets back to the way it used to be for the money you spend in there.
Marisa is a one woman band serving up excellent fare .. Check web for days open under Covid ..
Limited hours basically 5-8:30 but this small intimate restaurant shines . Has both indoor and out door seating.
Wonderful food, well portioned - nice wine list
Wonderful for a date night! Food and atmosphere was outstanding.
Loved the atmosphere sitting out in the alleyway patio with the band playing right next door. Service and food were both top notch too.
Overall we had a really nice date night at the Blue Cat.
Good steak, great service, not very impressive inside, but our food was good
Seeing an old friend after years, wanted to go to an old familiar spot. Blue cat hasn’t changed in a decade, and I mean that in a good way. Still tasty, with a quiet privacy that makes for a nice & long catch-up over dinner.
Our server did not seem qualified to do the job. Our meal was rushed. By 8 pm we were the last table in the restaurant (3 total the entire night). By 745 the waitress and another woman not quite sure of her job began making themselves cocktails. We paid the rushed check, corked our $150 bottle of wine and moved on. Food was ok wine was good but the servers unprofessional approach ruined the evening.
Rudest "service" I have ever encountered. Spend your money somewhere else. We weren’t even served water or menus after sitting there for 20 minutes so we got up and left, no harm done. Despite this, they saw fit to charge me $20/head for 8 people ($160). I am disputing the charge but wanted to let people know to avoid these rude owners at all costs
Poor service only one person waiting tables, bar tending and busing. Great location and nice jazz, but it they don’t get there act together they will be just another forgotten restaurant and something new will take its place.
Our experience was, unfortunately, disappointing. I came here with my wife the day after Valentines as we had other commitments on Valentines day proper. The restaurant was nearly empty. You would think that would get us fast service but, we spent quite a bit of time waiting for mediocre food.
Our appetizer plates were coated in grease on both sides. They actually left stains on the table cloth. These were taken away by our waiter with an apology but, he never replaced them with clean plates. And, it took 20 min to get a cup of coffee that we ordered as we were seated. Our actual appetizer, a cheese plate and Caesar salad took over 30 min to arrive and only after we asked for them. The cheese plate was fine but, the Caesar salad wasn't tossed well in dressing.
The main course took another 20 min to arrive. The food was ok but, nothing particularly special. For the price we paid for the dishes, we were just expecting a bit more.
For the more nit pick items. The place was cozy but a bit dated. The lights kept dimming at random intervals for a min or two, then would come back up to regular brightness. The bathrooms were relatively clean but lacked toilet paper and any way to dry your hands.
Overall, it was just a big miss. With poor service, lack luster facilities, and average food, we won't be coming back. It's too bad, I wanted to like the place.
My husband and I traveled from out of town to have a nice Valentine's Day dinner in Burlington. We made a reservation for 9 pm. We weren't seated for almost a half hour. There was only one waiter on staff, and people who walked in after us were seated first. People were leaving the restaurant without eating because the service was extremely slow. We eventually finished our dinner around 11 pm. My dish was not prepared as described, and my husband's mashed potato was cold. Definitely not worth the price. Seems like an amateur move to only have one waiter on what I assume is one of their busiest nights of the year. What was most annoying is that the staff wasn't upfront about the wait. They kept people waiting with no explanation. Very unprofessional. It feels like we wasted a lot of $$$ on mediocre food and a hotel room for nothing. Definitely not going back, and telling our friends not to go, especially if it's for a special occasion. I don't usually give harsh reviews, but this experience was terrible.
It saddens me to have to right this review..... I've been to Blue Cat several times and have always had a positive experience.......but
made reservations for 8 p.m. on Friday, February 14th Valentine's Day. Server sat us at a nice cozy table but then our server
1. did not bring us water until several minutes later
2. maybe 10-15 minutes in, took our order for wine
3 but did not bring us our wine until another 20 minutes had passed
4. we ordered our appetizer and two main dishes by around 8:30. server said would bring us some hummus and crackers.
5. from 8:30 we never got any hummus and neither the server or manager even checked in on us to apologize or give us any warning that things were backed up.
6. at 9:15 I also asked if any of our food was actually being prepped/cooked then in which case we would have stayed. However, none of our food was in the process of being made so we settled our bill for the two glasses of wine and left.
7. FWIW, the couple next to us came at 7 and they did not get their main dishes until 9...
So that's my review.... Usually I've had a pleasant experience there. Yes, it was a busy night but what saddens me most is that the manager and server never checked in on us, never explained the situation, did not even bother to comp us the two glasses or take a percentage off, etc.
Atmosphere’s relaxing, food’s amazing, and Ryan’s an excellent waiter.
How bad was it? let me count the ways:
1- No free parking as advertised
2-My Martini came with unidentified black specs
3-Dinner took more than an hour to be served
4- My food tasted like warmed over cardboard.
5- Service was almost non existant,
10 people walked out while we were there after waiting 10 minutes. No one came over to take their orders.
Overall the food was great. It’s a nice hidden gem. However, the service was ungodly slow. The appetizers alone took 45-1 hour. The main meal arrive 30 minutes later. We sipped 3 1/2 glass of wine before we got our dinner. I would not recommended if you can’t handle to lengthy wait.
The ambience of the place is perfect for a quiet "date night"; it's a very small place, so you definitely get a "crammed in there feeling" so I was thankful that no one was seated near us. Our waiter was very engaging and we enjoyed having him as our server. However, our salads were just sad; I had the warm beet salad and it had maybe 6 small pieces of beets, a couple of leaves of lettuce and some goat cheese (they ran out of the mandarin orange slices). Others at our table ordered the Caesar salad and it was ridiculous - hardly any dressing on the 4 pieces of lettuce and maybe 3 croutons? Our favorite meal at the Blue Cat is the filet Mignon, so that is what I ordered. Everyone else ordered the N.Y. Sirloin. The filet is advertised as 6 ounces - no way was that more than 4 ounces. Literally finished it in 3 bites. The side of vegetables was two small broccoli stalks and three cut pieces of carrots. I had the sweet potato - it was awesome, others had the garlic mashed - highly recommended. My husband and friends were very happy with their sirloin... that was done perfect. Our server didn't come back very often to ask if we wanted more to drink, so thankfully we had a bottle of water at the table. It took a very long time to get the hummus and pita bread, then longer for the salads to show up. It's not a "cheap" restaurant for the area, and it is our favorite spot in Burlington. Quite honestly, it was the first time I was not impressed when I left the restaurant. A couple of tweaks and the place could be as cherished as it once was!
Weeknight dining was quiet and delicious. Enjoyed my alone time savoring a tasty mushroom soup followed by a perfect medium rare by strip steak. Would have had dessert, but was full. Very good Meritage blend by the glass. The staff was very friendly.
Awesome service from Alex. Great food. Relaxed cozy atmosphere. Will definitely return. Great place to spend a quiet dinner with someone special.
The waitress was very good but she appeared to be the only one as well as serving as bartender, so things were quite slow. We haven't found Blue Cat to be so slow in the past... Time to hire more staff!
