Our dinner at Della Porta was nothing short of fantastic! We selected this restaurant because it offers gluten free pasta options as well as some non-alcoholic beverages to accommodate our dietary sensitivities and preferences. The Insalata Italiana was dressed perfectly and both fresh and flavorful, the perfect start to our meal, along with a dish of mixed olives. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her Pennoni Alla Genovese with gluten free pasta, and the braised lamb of my Spezzatiino was so tender that it easily fell off of the bone with my fork; no need for a knife...and the flavors were out of this world! Not only did our server offer suggestions for wine to pair with our entrees, but he brought two bottles to the table for us to sample his top two recommendations for both of us. This special touch is quite rare and is an example of what puts Della Porta to the top of area's fine dining options. He also cautioned me that my amaro selection, Amaro Del Capo, would be served cold, but it was what he grew up drinking. Now I'm out sourcing a bottle to buy for my home refrigerator! The people at the next table all had excellent-looking pizzas which they devoured. I may try one on a return visit but it is going to be a hard choice given the quality and uniqueness of the entrees. But our next visit will include an arrival before our reservation time so that we can enjoy the lovely outdoor bar and patio area. My wife and I can't wait to return to our newly found "best restaurant" in Door County!

For starters, I just wanted to call out that at night the Blue Bear menu becomes Italian and you have to order from their “Della Porta” Italian menu. Not a bad thing, just something to be aware of. First off let me start by saying that the food is very good. My wife and I ordered 2 appetizers and shared and entree. Everything we had was good. The issues began with service, it is very slow and we waiting almost 20 minutes for our cocktails despite seeing them sitting at the bar. Also, while the appetizers were adequate the serving size on the pasta we ordered for our entree, the most expensive on the menu, was very small. Additionally, there is a $6 up charge if you choose to share, which is fine, except for the fact that they do not do anything to split the entree for you and the portion size was honestly too small to split. All in all, good food but in my opinion not worth the value since the food and drinks are all over priced for what you get. If you are looking for somewhere new to go and out of other places by all means check this out but I do think there are better options in Door County for dinner.

My family has been coming to Door County since I was a child and we have seen the progression of restaurants in Door County over the years. The Blue Bear/Della Porta in Ellison Bay is leading a new direction for Door County. Local farm to table food executed in a delicious and simple way is priceless. You can taste the love that goes into the food and service. Definitely going to return many more times.

The hostess said that the restaurant was having problems with the OpenTable reservation system. We were fortunate that a table for two people was available, although there appeared to be spots available at the counter. Like many Door County locations, there were several large groups seated at tables, but the staff handled them well. The food was excellent with an amazing selection of gluten free options and accommodations. Prices were higher than some other places; however, they are appropriate given the fresh ingredients (farm to table), unique offerings, and professional service staff. We cannot wait to return, and to check out the sister Italian restaurant serving evening dinners at this location. Who would have thought an Italian restaurant would have many gluten free options?!?! Can’t wait!

A Friday lunch that hit the spots. Artichoke salad with whipped goat cheese, pistachios, and other yummy things. Whitefish sandwich with fries. Both really delicious and obviously fresh.

Our reservation was not found and we were begrudgingly led to an open table. We had our 6 year old grandson with us. I noticed at least half of the tables had children also. We were told there was no children’s menu and not a crayon offered to him. We know that he loves noodles and put together a delicious but expensive meal for him. We have eaten here many times before and though I’ve seen some reports about unfriendly service we have always felt welcome but I really did not feel that way this time to the point that we will not be returning
