BLT Prime - Trump Doral Ratings and Reviews
We had an evening layover in Miami after a cruise and chose the BLT Prime for my birthday. It was not very crowded, maybe because it was Super Bowl Sunday. So we were spoiled by the service. The food was superb, the biggest shrimp I have ever seen. And the steak was one of the best I have ever had (and it was just plain old USDA beef, not the super expensive Kobe beef). Ambiance was great, other than the football game being played in the background. Next time in Miami we will be staying at the gorgeous Trump Doral resort.
My steak ordered medium was served very rare, actual cold. They then overcooked the outer part when returning. My wife really enjoyed her Cobb salad. My jalapeno mash had zero kick. Very good waiter nice setting but overpriced based on quality. Carrot cake wasn't typical but done well.
We had a reservation on Saturday night at 745pm. We were seated immediately and it then took about 10 minutes before anyone even acknowledged we were there and brought us water. The service was definitely not what you would expect at an upscale restaurant. Now to the food we ordered tuna tar tar as an appetizer delicious so we really looking forward to our meal. My husband ordered the Cowboy Rib Eye, I ordered the filet mignon along with our sides truffles French fries which were very salty and mushrooms. We were both disappointed we have been to many well know steak houses and the quality of the meat definitely that we had was not one you would expect at an upscale restaurant. We are frequent diners and both the ribeye and the filet were both tough not as tender as we have had at other prime steakhouses and it was cold. We decided to order desert at the recommendation of our waitress the crepe soufflé with passion fruit that also took a while to arrive but I have to say that was probably the best part of our meal. Will we go back probably not as there many other steakhouses in Miami that are definitely worth the 264.00 that we spent here. We have had a better steak at roadhouse.
The service is excellent and each course was served in a timely manner. We have no complaint there at all. The wait staff was very attentive. The odd thing was that everything served was lukewarm at best. From the popovers (which we’d had earlier in the week) which weren’t warm enough to melt butter, to the onion rings a little limp because they’d cooled, to the stuffed mushrooms (served in an iron skillet that was comfortably warm to touch), to the soup of the day (lobster bisque) being warm but not hot, to the baked potato which gradually melted butter but didn’t even soften the shredded cheese when mixed in, to the steaks which were tasty but cool, to the warm chocolate cake which was not cold but definitely not warm. It seems that it all must have been prepared ahead of time and waiting for us to order or had to be transported from a kitchen quite distant from the dining room. If each dish had been served at the appropriate temperature, the flavors and dining experience would likely have been much more amazing. We’d had hoped it would be similar to the reliable experience of eating at Seagars at the Sandestin Hilton as this restaurant is located in an even more luxurious resort. This was not the case.
Everything from our appetizers to the brulee crepe dessert was outstanding. The filet mignon was excellent, as were the side dishes of whipped potatoes and mushrooms. Our waiter, Hugo, was also outstanding and extremely helpful, professional, and attentive. The cocktails were also great.
You would have gotten a substantially higher review if I wasn’t double charged for my dinner. I obviously paid for another tables dinner in addition to mine. In this type of place...it shouldn’t happen. I am disappointed with the time this is going to take to sort out and that it wasn’t caught before the charges went through.
We asked for a wine list and the waitress, in response, pointed out the list of wines by the glass. When my husband said, no, "a wine list" the waitress went away and came back with the binder of wines available by the bottle. The prices were high and the markup was steep. While our food was good, it was all a la carte so you could "design your own meal" according to the waitress. But it was NOT the quality we have had in similarly priced restaurants.
We also ate breakfast there 5 times on a golf package and the breakfast buffet was also over-priced and not the quality we have had elsewhere.
Dined at BLT Steak twice only out of convenience. There is not much else locally. I had Mahi Mahi one night that was overcooked and tough. I had a strip steak the second night. The food is mediocre at best. The steak was under seasoned and also tough. I question if it was actually prime grade. The service was painfully slow. It doesn't come close to what a good steakhouse should be.
I was so happy that BLT Prime at Trump Doral Resort extended their participation in Miami Spice! We started our meal with warm popovers [a nice surprise!!], and carpaccio which was paper thin and delicious. The steak was truly exceptional, topped only by Peter Luger in New York! The chocolate pie was rich and delicious! Our server was very attentive. I HIGHLY recommend BLT Prime.
PS The resort charged $8 for valet parking. It was pitch dark and rainy so there was no other option. REALLY....$8, that's chintzy!!
Delicious! Got to eat here on Monday night and it was lovely. Starting with the Popover for me and the GF toast for my hubby, we were off to a strong start. Next we shared the burrata and tomato salad and boy was it good. The tomatoes were perfect and the burrata was creamy. Next we shared the filet, with chimichurri on the side for dipping. Steak was cooked perfectly. On the side we got the potato skins, full of cheesy bacon goodness. We also got the asparagus, which was solid, but nothing spectacular. Where they really knocked it out of the park was dessert. There weren't any good GF options, so the chef offered to make us a Surprise dessert. Out came some GF french toast, with three scoops of gelato. I love the way he wanted to try to make something GF for us. Our server was fantastic, great pace and good recommendations. The view from the patio was spectacular, even on a rainy night. Huge flag overlooking golf and water features was lovely.
Disappointed that the miami spice menu is very poor. On top of that the beef carpaccio is supposed to come with arugula and they were out so they replaced with watercress without letting us know. The Burrata was supposed to be served with basil and was also served with watercress (or some similar green) because they were out of basil. Also, a side of fries was $11 which I found unjustifiably expensive. The shrimp diavolo pasta didn't have enough sauce. Been here before but quality has definitely declined. Service was also extremely slow, lunch took 2 hours.
During Hurricane Irma this was the only restaurant we could find open that was serving a good meal without a wait. The menu was limited because they were having trouble with deliveries but none the less delicious. We spoke to our waiter and another person assisting and shared storm stories. Despite just having gone through the hurricane, service was as outstanding as always.
The restaurant was great and located right on site so it was easy access. All of the staff was super friendly and very caring despite it being a couple of days before hurricaine Irma was to hit Florida they always made us feel we were important to them. The gruyere cheese popover is very special and impressive as it is what they bring to your table before the meal.
Excellent service. Adriana took care of us, we felt incredible and it was my daughter's 13th Birthday which Restaurant Manager, hostess, Adriana and helpers were all congratulating her and making her feeling so special. Very detail oriented. Excellent service. Thank you!!!!
The food and ambiance are wonderful. Service is considerate. One objection is the sun. There is a lack of sunshades, so any table facing the beautiful golf course and grounds is susceptible to the setting rays and makes for an uncomfortable 15-20 minutes of dining. Surely they can install shades, I suggest it highly. It was a fine experience overall.
