Our server must have been having a pretty awful day and was inattentive, never asked us how our food was and slow to bring drink orders. Also, lights got turned off for our tables and it took the wait staff 2-3 minutes to get them turned back on. Food will be the only thing that will bring me back again.
My lifie and I had a wonderful time! The food was outstanding, service was mindful and not overbearing, and exactly what I wanted for our evening together.
Service was slow. Worst omakase in SF; it’s just a platter of Nigiri. No interaction with Sushi Chef.
I went to dinner on Valentine's Day with my platonic roommate. We knew it would be a busy night anywhere, but opted to try out this place we'd heard so much about. Fortunately, we thought, this place had tables to spare.
The service was great. Our server was genteel and she was just the right amount of available versus being too attentive.
The sushi was good, but not great. The one thing that was almost worth the price was the To Die For roll. Unfortunately, it's a wonderful set of ingredients put together in such a fashion that it's not possible to eat easily, because it's a pile of compressed rice topped with the wonderful beef morsels, fungi, and lobster. The lobster was almost absent, but I did find two little tiny bits.
Overall, the ambiance was so-so, the food was just OK, and the prices are way too high for what you get.
Overall--3 stars. I won't return again. I've had better sushi in tiny, hidden, yet charming hovels that was also cheaper. This place just wasn't as good as I had hoped.
I requested a table specifically in my open table instructions. I called the 2 hours before to confirm the exact table would be reserved. Get there and they had just seated someone at requested table.. Hostess did not care nor apologize and was not helpful. Told me I could wait or just take a different table.
I think if someone goes out of their way to request a table it should be taken more serious. Especially on Valentine’s Day.
Im very disappointed bc i made my reservation for the past monday at 9pm trough you guys n they called me at 8:10pm to let me know that they will closed at 9pm for kitchen matenance ..they couldn’t even call me before to give me time to find other place..no happy with this at all
The nigiri chef's special selection was great, service was great, fast and with good recomendations.
Various Sashimis and roll we had were very good. Tempura was disappointing , batter too thick and a bit too much of it, avoid
Waiter said next to
Nothing, destroyed our
Sushi pyramid without asking
And was inattentive. Other then that the sushi is still good here
Blowfish is consistently excellent! Best sushi around.
Server was not in a good mood, unhelpful with ordering, disappeared for several minutes at a time, forgot our second round of wine, etc etc etc. she cleared our entire table before we were done ordering and eating.
It was one for the books :)
Very fresh fish and best sushi I have had ! Waiter was knowledgeable and I love the animmae and techno music ...
No need for a lot of words: Among the greatest, if not the greatest sushi and food I ever had. Attentive staff with a smile on top made the experience unforgettable. The ambiance isn’t the greatest but if your into good food, then don’t miss this place.
I had dined at BlowFish a number of years ago and it was crowded and entertaining with excellent food. This return indicated to me that the restaurant has gone down hill. I would not go out of my way to dine there again in the future.
Christmas dinner with kids went well even though the place was short of staff. Thanks
Blowfish is my absolute favorite Sushi Joint in SF. Freshest and best tasting ingredients around. The service was better than usual on this night, but I never really expect much. The wait staff is usually all over the place, you can be waiting for some time, but the gentleman who served us on this evening was attentive and pleasant. The perfect mind you, but far better than usual. Normally I hate giving one place so much credit for their food, but the fish is so far above and beyond everyone else, I will be back over and over.
Fantastic! Excellent service.
The food at Blowfish is still solid and enjoyable after all these years. Unfortunately the service can be spotty. Otherwise, I really enjoy dining here.
Was wonderfull í am back
The blak cod whith rissoto
The sushi and sashimi options were fantastic. The miso cod and edamame were also amazing. We were less impressed with the scallop and pork belly appetizers. Great service from our waiter, he recommended everything that we really enjoyed.
everything was great! the only thing was when i passed by the kitchen, it seems really in disarray when it wasn't busy.
Life changing foodie experience! Mouth watering dishes include: the classic pyramid tower with the ideal paring of sweet/savory sauces mixed in, the delicious virgin oyster shooters with the delicate quail egg, the perfect hamachi crudo (truly ethereal) and the best tasting miso black cod and creamy risotto. I've been to this restaurant several times, and it never ceases to impress me.
As usual, Blowfish never disappoints. If you like sushi in a modern Japanese environment then this is the place. The food is awesome, with many choices.
Not nearly as good as it used to be. Service was poor (slow despite the restaurant being half empty, and with an attitude). The menu is tired, and the quality doesn't match the price. Have been going for years, but won't be going back. Pity.
Wait staff was truly professional, knowledgeable and courteous. Frankly, they made the entire evening more enjoyable. The menu item, "to die for," was out of this world, and the desert was as scrumptious as any chocolate after diner desert I have ever experienced.
Sushi is really great. DJ spinning. Celebrated birthday.
Food was fantastic. Service was awful. Slow, not enough staff, not very organized.
Blowfish has really gone down hill. The food is still fine but the service in the bar are terrible.
Inattentive service, long time between dishes arriving at the table. We spent $360. for three people and had to find our waiter to ask for the check. Menu choices range from beautiful, high quality sashimi to elaborate rolls for those who like that style and a nice selection of sake. The menu seems unjustifiably expensive given the food and overall experience. No more fun anime projections on the wall and music was pretty bland until a local DJ started spinning an eclectic mix music.
Love this place. Great food. Great service. They are friendly people. Creative dishes. Not nearly as pricey as newer high end sushi restaurants but just as good and creative.
Creative, fresh, delicious, fun!!! A treat for all senses!!
Kitchen was a bit slow (45min until the first dish was served) and multiple plates arrived that we did not order. Uncharacteristic of this restaurant as I've eaten here several times.
Everything we touched turned into magnificent glorious tastebud adventures! Deserts were Devine. Highly recommend the Zen Garen and the Chocolaholic!
Would definitely return.
It was good, and we didn't have to wait for a table. Presumably because it's expensive.
We had a blast at Blowfish.
The environment was casual and comfortable, the food was fantastic and the service was great!
There was even a live DJ spinning music while we enjoyed dinner, but the music wasn't too loud.
The perfect spot, definitely coming back!
Good selection that satisfied both a sushi lover and a non-sushi person. Good sized portions. Server went above and beyond on getting my companion's drink order figured out with the bartender.
So amazing! Still one of my favorite spots in the bay! I've been coming here every year to celebrate my birthday and this year I had to celebrate a little later than usual but it was so worth it! Can't go wrong with the ritsu roll!
