I have been going there for awesome sushi for 10+ years. Never disappointed. They have recently renovated (somewhat) and I am not sure if I like the new wall decorations. Also, please bring back the rock-and-roll rolls! :)
Must say quality of food was way off what reviews reflected. Not good, site/ambience so so, would not recommend if you’re looking for a good quality restaurant
The fish was fresh and delicious and this is important. The decor needs a refresh, the industrial look is worn and tired and makes the place look dingy. I found our server pushy and irritating. Otherwise the sushi was good so I’d return for that.
Our food was good but not fantastic. I’d go again and try more items.
We went early so noise was not a factor. Ordinarily loud, but fine for a lively night spot. Easy SF parking which adds to it being a convenient dinner destination for great food, service, and ambiance.
Zach the bartender was lively and will be the reason we return! Keep up the good work guy.
I've always loved Blowfish and now that they've renovated, I enjoy it even more. I've never had a bad meal there. In fact I've tasted some of the best sushi I've ever had at this restaurant and I eat sushi frequently.
This was a huge disappointment. We have lived in the area for 20 years now and have relied on Blowfish to be that consistent place you can go to relying on a decent meal. I have in past years found it a tad noisy for my comfort but the food was always worth it. This last meal was a disaster, the fish ranged from meh to terrible. We sent back the uni for being completely inedible.
For once it was not noisy, for a Saturday night it was rather empty, making me wonder if San Francisco has already worked out that this place is not what it used to be. We left rather saddened...the end of an era.
I came here with my cousin for dinner. We arrived at around 8:30pm. The staff was super friendly and seated us fairly quickly. The restaurant was pretty warm inside. Once sat our server was very friendly to start and we almost immediately started ordering. We ordered about 8 different dishes to share and some sushi. I had high expectations however most of the food was good but nothing that blew me away. A few items were really good like the Pork Belly(Crunchy Pork), Garlic Soy Edamame and the Cream Pan Dessert. As the night went on the staff became almost non-existent until it was time to close. This seemed like a better place for families so I wouldn't come here with the expectation of the likes of Masa or Omakase.
Cute new place in the mission. Made reservations although didn’t need one for a Monday night. Good sushi specials and a variety of Japanese tapas and sake cocktails to choose from. Very friendly staff.
The food was great, but the ambiance and prices could be better...
My reservation was for 8:00 pm and by 8:45 pm the server came around to say it was last call for ordering more food. If that’s the case then they should adjust their reservation times, unless they’re more concerned about their sales get in get out.
Can t spend enough words for this sushi place. Amazing the taste, fresh and very light.
Dessert as well. Very special.
We have been going to Blowfish since it opened in the 90s, and their update within the past month or two has completely gutted the special place we've known and loved all these years. They have made the decor more general, boring, and almost corporate (no more anime?! plywood cutout walls?) but the worst is that they have significantly downgraded the quality of the food, and kept the prices high. The three mushroom appetizer was just soggy grocery store brown buttons and portobellos. Everything from the green tea to the salad dressing felt like a solid, uninspired neighborhood sushi spot. I'm sure it will be fine for people who weren't regulars before, but it felt like such a shame, and we won't be going back.
Nastiest sushi I’ve ever had in San Francisco. Couldn’t even finish the meal.
I love Blowfish. Food and service were excellent.
I was quite annoyed, however, when my reservation was unable to be located after confirming with Opentable via email, and text, as well as calling the restaurant to confirm. The host actually seemed annoyed that I was taken aback that they didn't have my reservation on file, since I confirmed it in three or four different ways.
My request for an intimate table was not honored either, as it was my birthday dinner.
Amazing sushi - some of the best I've ever eaten. Great service and value, would recommend to anyone.
Great meal with sushi the server wasn’t doing his job or to many tables for one person
Good but very overpriced
I come to this restaurant every time I am in town. I live out of state and it is such a treat to come here. I love it!
Portions have gotten smaller and the poor waitstaff was under staffed. Waited 30 mins for drinks and 45 for food.
Sushi was terrible. Really not worth the money. Go somewhere else.
Good atmosphere and nice foods
No more happy hour :( Boo!
Still amazing food and atmosphere though! The mojitos are the best!
They need to retrain their wait staff to pay more attention to their diners. They didn’t check back with us during the meal. We had to practically knock them down to get our bill, then had to bring our bill to the cash register after waiting 10 minutes for someone to pick it up. There were 6 of us, which meant automatic gratuity, which we would have taken back if we could have given the lousy service.
Our favorite is the Pyramid of Tartar! Also try the garlic edamame, The Punch and the Hawaiian Brochette! So 😋!
Good food. Creative presentations. Will definitely go back.
Great Sushi and great service! Specially recommend the bin toro (albacore belly) and the miso black cod!
Our server must have been having a pretty awful day and was inattentive, never asked us how our food was and slow to bring drink orders. Also, lights got turned off for our tables and it took the wait staff 2-3 minutes to get them turned back on. Food will be the only thing that will bring me back again.
My lifie and I had a wonderful time! The food was outstanding, service was mindful and not overbearing, and exactly what I wanted for our evening together.
Service was slow. Worst omakase in SF; it’s just a platter of Nigiri. No interaction with Sushi Chef.
I went to dinner on Valentine's Day with my platonic roommate. We knew it would be a busy night anywhere, but opted to try out this place we'd heard so much about. Fortunately, we thought, this place had tables to spare.
The service was great. Our server was genteel and she was just the right amount of available versus being too attentive.
The sushi was good, but not great. The one thing that was almost worth the price was the To Die For roll. Unfortunately, it's a wonderful set of ingredients put together in such a fashion that it's not possible to eat easily, because it's a pile of compressed rice topped with the wonderful beef morsels, fungi, and lobster. The lobster was almost absent, but I did find two little tiny bits.
Overall, the ambiance was so-so, the food was just OK, and the prices are way too high for what you get.
Overall--3 stars. I won't return again. I've had better sushi in tiny, hidden, yet charming hovels that was also cheaper. This place just wasn't as good as I had hoped.
I requested a table specifically in my open table instructions. I called the 2 hours before to confirm the exact table would be reserved. Get there and they had just seated someone at requested table.. Hostess did not care nor apologize and was not helpful. Told me I could wait or just take a different table.
I think if someone goes out of their way to request a table it should be taken more serious. Especially on Valentine’s Day.
Very friendly staff and prompt. Great food and a nice environment.
Im very disappointed bc i made my reservation for the past monday at 9pm trough you guys n they called me at 8:10pm to let me know that they will closed at 9pm for kitchen matenance ..they couldn’t even call me before to give me time to find other place..no happy with this at all
The nigiri chef's special selection was great, service was great, fast and with good recomendations.
Various Sashimis and roll we had were very good. Tempura was disappointing , batter too thick and a bit too much of it, avoid
Waiter said next to
Nothing, destroyed our
Sushi pyramid without asking
And was inattentive. Other then that the sushi is still good here
Blowfish is consistently excellent! Best sushi around.
