terrible food, terrible service. lost its luster from many years ago.
At 7 on a Friday we were one of 3 groups in the dining room. We were all sat right next to each other with 20+ tables available. Will never come here again
Great food. Service could have been better. It was not a busy night but our waitress seemed to be busy with other things.
Amazing sushi and great drinks! My favorite sushi spot in San Jose!
The food was fresh and good but the servings quite small and price high. I knew it was going be pricey but spending $125 for two and leaving hungry not such a good value.
I stayed next door to Blowfish Sushi on a business trip. The location was super convenient and the food was pretty tasty - HUGE menu, it's kind of like the Cheesecake Factory of sushi. Great for a quick bite, though beware of your timing as it seemed to be turning into a nightclub before we finished our meal... disco lights and super loud music.
I really can't rate this restaurant because it was closed for maintenance when we got there. After driving over there and meeting up with friends, it was very disappointing and embarrassing. I do not who's to blame Open Table or BlowFish Sushi, but I most likely won't choose this restaurant or book through Open Table again.
We were here for my birthday...loved that they put us in a private area where it was not to loud! Food was good but service was slow and keep messing up our rolls!
Very good and creative sushi. But the interior is run down (duct tape on run down fake leather couches - maybe it's a design element and I just didn't understand it) and I nearly left based on the biting smell when I entered.
Very loud music. Very poor service. Quality of fish was good.
The food was OK but it may have been our server's first time (ever) in a restaurant.
There isn't as much sushi selection as other places. It is pricey for what you get but that is to be expected for any place in Santana Row. Bottom line, there's better sushi places.
I was in San Jose, and decided to see how this compared to SF with my son. Great cocktails, good food as in SF. But I'd say the booths need a replacement! A full booth was covered in black duck tape that we sat on. Completely ridiculous given the cost. I don't have an issue with the cost, but jeez keep the place up already. Plus every TV (and there are several) have sports. I despise the suburban "I have to have sports on or no one will come" vibe. If I were on a date, or had taken colleagues there I'd have been disappointed.
Nice sushi place. Did not fancy the rolls too much.
The food quality was okay, not too flavorful. In my opinion, not worth the price.
Must say that the experience we had last Saturday night wasn't very good. Restaurant was barely busy, yet the service was well below par. I think the staff must be new as they mis-delivered everyone of our dishes. I brought up the fact after the fourth occurrence and barely got a reply. Food is overpriced for what you get and there are much better options for Sushi around. Definitely will think twice before visiting this location again.
I flew a client out for the iHeart 80s party and had been referred by a friend, only to have an Sergio experience. Waited over 10 minutes to get seated when there were multiple tables available. We all ordered cocktails, waters and an order of edamame. After 20 minutes, our edamame came out, BEFORE our drinks!! Not even water was served and we didn't even have napkins/silverware. Waited another 5-10 minutes with zero service and walked out, leaving cash on the table for the edemame. Absolutely horrendous, and I recommend that diners avoid Blowfish like the plague.
Very Loud even when the restaurant was 50% occupied, difficult to hear the person across the table, not recommend for a business dinner. The food review was for Sushi rolls and sashimi, below average vs. other options in the area. Perhaps the other menu items are better. I suspect that youngsters and non sushi critics would have a more favorable view. Waitress service was very good.
This was once a great place to eat sushi, now everything is poor, not worth time or money.
Creative options for sushi and the Tuna Tartare Pyramid is a must!
As loud as any restaurant I can think of, so conversation is tough.
Good nightlife scene and the bar was busy on a Friday.
High quality food with lots of interesting tastes. High price but well worth it to me. Enjoyed our New Years Eve dinner. Will go again as we didn't get to try everything we wanted. Hard to pick a favorite dish
Terrible service. We eat Sushi all the time and the value just isn't there. Music so loud it's hard to have a conversation. This just isn't a place for us. We've given several tries...but after this last attempt we wouldn't recommend for dining.
Love this place. It's the best for Sushi and a fun environment
Service was off. Edamame came after the meal. Even the soda was flat. Too bad. Some of the dishes were quite nice.
Fabulous service, yummy food - even if overpriced for happy hour
Garlic edamame and sashimi were amazing!! Both rolls we ordered fell flat. Very friendly server who greeted us and took care of us even as late lunch arrivals, but then disappeared as her shift needed without saying anything... which was odd...
Mind blowing good sushi as always. Great sushi. Easy to get a table for dinner. This is my 2nd time visiting here. We ordered the Pyramid of Tartar(this was good) recommended by the waiter as an appetizer. And ordered a bunch of sushi rolls. Each with a unique taste you wont find anywhere else. Good atmosphere, good ambiance, amazing sushi that I haven't found anywhere else.
When I am in town again this is the place for A+sushi
I have been to Blowfish previously, but my wife had not been. I was super excited to have her try the edamame as it is one of my favorites. The food was great and our server/waitress was super attentive and very nice, but there seemed to be between 2-3 other people who would also periodically come by to take the plates, fill waters etc which was a little annoying. Outside of that, we were super pleased and very much enjoyed our dinner date.
We've been to BlowFish many times over the years. However, I'm crossing them off my list as the VALUE PROP is out of control. Sushi is good, people are friendly and we don't struggle to get a table (almost always sit at sushi bar). I paid $87 for two small rolls, a plate of edamame and two very small cups of their cheapest sake. Sadly, this will be our last time there.
This is a great place for outstanding fresh sushi. Service was terrific.
First time to this restaurant. Took an early dinner was seated right away. Noticed the bench seat was DUCT TAPPED (due to a torn), table had soy sauce stain, the soy sauce jug / kettle had a piece of rice on the lid.... Not a good start. Ordered a few sushi, crunchy pork and seabass on risotto. While we waited for food, we were watching the sushi chef preparing some sushi. She had a piece of sashimi in one of her hand, about to grab some rice from the rice bowl / cooker w/ her other hand, another colleague approached her (another sushi chef) and did a chit chat...hence that piece of sashimi was in her palm / hand throughout the conversation (at least 20 seconds+). It happened not only once, but at least 2 times which very unhygienic and unprofessional. Sushi arrived later on..... Amaebi was very small, other sushi portion was also thin / small. Quality wise, so-so. But for the price they charge, not worth it. Crunchy pork wasn't good.... At least not my taste. As w/ the seabass on risotto...seabass was alright (it was steaming hot) while the risotto was mediocre. But again overall for the price they charge, you could have gotten much better quality good, much cleaner environment. Even my daughter said the same thing.
Food here is consistently excellent.
Unfortunately service here is also consistent: Poor.
My wife insists our waiter this saturday was just a busboy filling in that night since he was clueless.
Order a drink that never comes - "They are busy", "They have too many customers".
Really? i can fix the too many customers problem.
Guys, your food is great, why screw it up with lousy servers? Shouldnt be that hard to upgrade.
Terrible service and the food was overpriced and had no flavor. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Late Friday night dinner, restaurant was thoughtful to call us and tell us the kitchen stops serving food at 10:15, so we arrived at 10:05 for our 10:30 reservation. ordered drinks, flank steak and 3 sushi dishes. My steak was cooked well done, I asked for med rare, but it was tasty. The sushi was fresh and innovative. Very loud music playing, son my husband sat next to me.
Server was rude to my date (likely jealous because she didn't have a date)
Food was horrendous--how do you ruin sushi? I don't know, but ask these people.
Way too expensive for the quality of the meal
Great food! We stuffed ourselves! Super creative options. Great drinks. Will definitely go again.
Excellent service; Good fresh sushi; Moderate prices; Modern decor; Busy atmosphere and noisy
Waitress wore revealing shirts that made me and my fiancé very uncomfortable. Food was so overpriced and was only decent. Overall, we'll never go back.
The food was great. Everything we had was delicious. The noise level was just too loud and the bathrooms were atrocious. Just disgusting. Looked like they had not been cleaned in days.
Created a reservation. Was late by ~5min, was seated promptly at a table for two. Then waited for twenty minutes for no waiter to show up. Finally asked a waitress for some water, which she brought us some. After 30mim the table that was next to us was seated well after us and had a waiter taking their orders for food when we still have not seen a waiter. I understand that it is a busy Saturday evening but if someone goes to the trouble of making a reservation and no service is offered what's the point. Needless to say my date and I left and got food elsewhere. Horrible service 0/10.
