Blanca Ratings and Reviews
The entrance, the seating, the experience, menu, pairing ‘wines’, those fun and welcoming staff, personal approach... wow! Blanca: you’re doing something very unique and special over there in Bushwick. And you have let us experience that eating at a 2 star Michelin restaurant can be informal sexy and hipster cool. Till we meet again!
This was my first tasting menu and it lived up to the hype. The food was incredibly creative and fabulous. From the first bite to the last, I was impressed. It was also entertaining. Other than the food, you watch the preparation in a wide-open, intimate kitchen, and are served delicious wines that pair perfectly. It's pricey but worth it.
I have eaten in 3 Michelin star restaurants before and my dining experience at Blanca blew all of them out of the water. The meals were well executed and the wine pairing complimented the dishes. Staff was extremely attentive and went out of their way to make the whole experience an unforgettable one. This place deserves its 3rd star.
Amazing and unique tasting menu. Very cool ambiance and great service. The wine pairing is definitely worth it as it really enhanced the quality of every food item. The only bad thing about this place is that each item is only 2-3 bites worth; I wanted a whole plate of each thing it was so good
Amazing meal. Long procession of courses. A couple I didn't love so much but overall excellent. Portion size was perfect. Sometimes I get to a point on tasting menus where I'm screaming for mercy, but not here. Balanced, nuanced, yummy. And expensive but worth it for a special night. Wine pairings were well thought out. Super service. Loved it.
The chefs working here are really top notch. Very innovative food served in a chill atmosphere. Everyone sits at the counter facing the kitchen; so all seating is equal. Each course was unique and, most importantly, very yummy. Other reviewers have compared it to French Laundry (FL). Not really comparable as these are two completely different dining experiences. That said, the food is just as innovative as FL, but with more appropriate portion sizes for this many courses. The offered wine pairing wasn't great. The wines were very nice on their own, but we struggled to understand the tie between most wines to the dishes. The only other negative of the night was the final course: a dessert with celery. Horrible! I've had this at another restaurant and it didn't work there either. I appreciate stretching the boundaries, but this was a complete flop. Perhaps it would work as a sorbet between vegetable and meat course, but not as a dessert. Finally, the service was very well executed, polite, and fun; they function like a 5 star restaurant, but in a very relaxed environment. If you're looking for a very unique culinary experience and can afford it, I definitely recommend Blanca.
It was such a wonderful experience! Food was delish (obviously since it is a Michelin restaurant). What I love most about the restaurant is that it is so different from any other Michelin restaurant I've been to. Usually they are super stuffy and prim and proper but this seemed to have a more relaxed and casual atmosphere which I thoroughly enjoyed. The meal was great for a tasting menu too since my boyfriend and I left without feeling hungry which we usually do after a tasting menu at Michelin star restaurants (usually their portions are so tiny!) I loved the variety of meat and seafood dishes. Great desserts too and the little goody bag which details the different dishes of the meal we had along with their homemade chocolate bar. I also mentioned that my boyfriend and I were there to celebrate our anniversary and they had a little card for us which was nice. Some of the other guests were celebrating their birthdays and the restaurant had noted that as well. That's good service (along with the fact that they were always on top of folding your napkin and getting your seat for you whenever you got up to use the restroom). Also, the setting is very intimate as it's all bar seating for 12 people max I believe. I loved this because it felt like I was sitting at a Chef's Table since it was an open kitchen and we could watch the chef and his team prepare everything for us. Also, it felt very cool and speakeasy type because it's in the back of Roberta's pizza and you would never guess that there is a separate restaurant behind the bustling pizza joint. Overall, a great evening and definitely a must-try!
Both the food and service at Blanca exceeded expectations! I strongly suggest splurging on the wine pairing for a completely satisfying accompaniment to your meal. I could not have asked for a more creative menu and welcoming atmosphere. I can’t wait to go back !!
Truly outstanding fine dining in an intimate setting defined by 19 whimsical dishes that delight with a pure clean and highly intense cuisine that is simple and not overwrought. With hints of global flavors that tantalize the palate, chef Galen and his team accommodated diner participation adeptly. The flavors were well balanced and texture and visuals attractive. Service was pleasant, informative, informal, and personal. A definite two star success mass that much more seductive by the location at the back end of Roberto's Pizza. Highly recommended.
Truly amazing!! The menus had a few gems that was truly incredible! I will remember the foie gras and the bread course for a long time after! It felt more like coming home to your best friends dinner party, and you wanted to continue the whole night!
The beverage was great, but daring for some people, so have an open mind with you if you want to do the pairing (which you should), otherwise order bottles from the small but great wine list with a few great gems!
Go here, one of the best restaurants in New York!!
After a fiddly booking( the 12 seats are one of the most coveted in town) we managed to get 2 spaces for an early dinner. It runs a set tasting menu that changes according to what the chef Carlo Mirarchi, finds seasonal, with a couple of fixed classics, like the nduja ravioli and one that if it is not a classic should become one : sea urchin with grilled maitake mushroom. What a revelation!!! My favourite dish of the night.
Some dishes more friendly to the palate than others but most of them bringing some unexpected note of surprise.
Overall very enjoyable but.... I found it a bit expensive considering there is not a vast kitchen or a busy front of the house with a big space to take care of (12 patrons, 5 chefs, 4 hostesses)
And not a lot of food, so after parting with a quite a bit of money (and we had only a couple of glasses of wine) we had to actually top things up with one of Roberta's famous (and rightfully so) pizzas.
And we were not the only ones, a nice couple we got chatty with during the meal, was queuing in front of us to get a pizza as well.
It would be a nice touch if in the lovely "take home treat bag" they give you at the end of the meal, they included a voucher for a pizza).
A one in a life time experience, and glad I had it.
Have been to a few Michelin star restaurants - and this one was very different in that it was hidden behind a pizza place (Roberta's) and it was laid out as seating for twelve - fourteen people per serving. It was interesting to watch the chefs in action but I think i prefer a more traditional experience, like Per Se.
